Ahh...the offseason...where everybodies going to win 3.gif

this year presents the possibility that for the first time in forever, the patriots won't be the beast in the east. [2008 doesn't count, no tom brady and we still went 11-5]. It's somewhat odd, especially considering as a child I never thought they would decline. But here we are, with a mountain of doubt and the possibility that the Jets or Dolphins might be emancipated from their serfdom under King Belichick. [ Yes, I am doing my history homework right now.]

Should be interesting to see how the AFC East plays out. I remember back in 2004/2005/2006 Jets fans were crowning Chad Pennington as the next Joe Namath and claimed that he would usurp Brady....there was even an espn commercial mocking that claim once upon a time. They did start 5-0 in 2004 and met the also undefeated patriots in week 6, which was a great game.

If he did it was very early in his career. I think, but i'm not sure, that his first season as a starter was 2002 when the Jets beat the Pats for the division title and lost to the raiders in the playoffs. Then he got hurt either 2003 or 2004. I'm pretty sure he played the entire 06' with Magini in his first season when they won the wild card, i don't really know the rest of it though.

I think it's great that the PAckers traded Aaron Kampman to somewhere where he could live up to his potential...

He was definetely not a 3-4 player

And for a very early superbowl pick:

    Packers over Jets: 27-23

    #1 Sam Bradford - Rams

    #2 Ndamokung Suh - Lions

I think detroit did better than the Rams for their pick, I think Suh has a lot more potential

    Cowboys Take Dez Byrant

Didnt  the cowboys have another knuckle headed reciver named Byrant? Oh Ya Antonio Byrant, the guy who threw his jersey at Bill Parcells and was cut soon after.

Scouting Report throws a lot of red flags to me.

Bryant is an extremely talented receiver that has legitimate downfield speed as well as the ability to adjust to off-target throws. He missed the final 10 games of 2009 for lying to an NCAA investigator and his ability to control and handle the off-field issues that could come up have to be in question. He is extremely competitive to the ball when he is the target but sometimes shows a lackadaisical attitude when on the back side of plays or when asked to block.

He needs to be more precise on his route running and not round off his breaks on the hard cuts. He could easily be the first receiver taken off the board if he can impress the personnel people in interviews.

We shall see if he is another Randy Moss or another  David Boston.

Sounds like Jerry Jones made this pick off pure emotion due to the fact that he had a similar choice 12 years ago on Randy Moss and passed, and regrets that.

Never good when picks are made on emotion.

It's also never good when your team fools around trading down twice then drafts a corner who had one interception all year. I think everyone had the Pats going to kindle...why did they pass? He seems like the prototype pats OLB. Then again...so did adalius thomas.

I think that the move to draft Dez Bryant was a good one. Keep in mind that while he has "red flags" they are for him being immature, not him being a criminal. He has never been on the wrong side of the law and I tthink most people would agree he won't be more inclined to get in trouble than any other NFL player. Honestly, I view him as the high maintenence prima donna reciever in the T.O. mold that has other worldly talent and a potentially disruptive person in the locker room. He should be a very productive player on the field, which bodes well for the 'Boys.

I like how the Patriots played the draft this year. Next year they have a garunteed top 10 pick [Oaklands first rounder from the Seymour trade], there own first, and two second round picks. This year with 12 picks including 4 in the first two rounds, they managed to get 4-5 players who will contribute greatly. 06-08 they had some bad drafts, but if you take those years first round picks, and the last two drafts, you have a number of starters and players who could contribute immediately next year.

Meriweather and Mayo have grown into pro bowl caliber players on D, Maroney is the teams leading rusher since he was drafted and when healthy a good player. Last year, Vollomer, Wilhite, and butler all ended up starting games for the Pats, and Pat Chung grew leaps and bounds from barely playing in the first game to making big plays by week 17. This year, Brandon Spikes in the third round is IMO the best pick in the draft for the patriots, he should end up starting next to mayo, Cunningham should be a terrific OLB once he learns the spot [although I don't think he's ready to step in right away, he's more of a long term project]. Gronkowski was a steal in the second round, first round talent but fell due to injury concerns, and Anthony Hernandez was the top TE in college football last year so he's there if Gronkowski doesn't work out. Picking the top kicker/punter in the 5th round was a great pick that even Mel Kiper liked, and that fills an immediate need for opening day.

The one pick I didn't like was Price the reciever out of Ohio, but history has shown that drafting recievers from small schools in the second and third round is almost a better option than going for the big names in the first round. Knowing how Edelman turned out last year, theres a good chance this guy could work out too.

Darren Sharper resigns with the Saints.

Interesting, reports are saying he had microfracture surgery this offseason, which for a 35 year old is potentially career ending. I highly doubt he can play at the same level he played last year coming off such a surgery.

o really? Darren Sharper has been one of my favorite players since I was little...

I'm kind of thinking that Brian Westbrook would do very good in D.C

He could hang with Donovan 44.gif

I think that it would be very interesting if Brian Westbrook followed McNabb to Washington with their familiarity with each other, which could make for a potent combo. That being said, I would not put my money on Washington signing Westbrook considering that they already have three prominent running backs signed in Willie Parker, Larry Johnson, and of course Clinton Portis, who have all been significant workhorses earlier in their careers. The key here is "earlier" in their careers, as all three of these guys are 29 or older, which is right about the age that running backs fall off the face of the planet. With three older running backs, I would find it hard to believe that the Redskins would add another guy in his 30s coming off a very bad year. More likely, I would expect Brian Westbrook to pop up somewhere with a lead back already in place and step into a role as a change of pace, third down back, similar to what Thomas Jones is trying to do in Kansas City. My money is on him signing with the Rams to back up Stephen Jackson 4.gif

    Training camps starts tomorrow.

At least for the cowboys since they are playing in the Hall of Fame bowl.

The signed all their picks yesterday and today too including Dez Byrant.

Its getting  good, I wont know what to do if the rangers are in a playoff game when the Cowboys are playing. 42.gif

Im not to sure about our kicking situation David Buehler  is expected to do both kick off and FG's.

hes good at the kickoffs but unproven for field goals.

but that something i just dont get about kickers, there are 120 or so division 1  college football teams each of whom have 2-4 kickers how can there be a problem finding a kicker out of that pool? and these NFL kickers with 70% FG percentages ( shaun suisham im looking at you 2.gif keep geting recycled  thru the leauge?

If the cowboys win they will be the first team to win the SB in their own home.

Dolphins sign defensive end Marques Douglas‎ to a 2 year deal hope that works out.

I have never understood that either.  There are plenty of really good kickers in college that never get drafted and never get a shot at the NFL that I am pretty sure could do a lot better than the mediocre journey-man kickers.  I think it's all about that comfort zone; teams are too afraid to entrust the fortunes with rookie kickers that have never shown they have the ability to perform at an elite level.

I am still bummed out that Nick Folk developed the yips, he used to be so good for the Cowboys 15.gif

On Thursday I'll be at the annual shareholders meeting for the Green Bay Packers [i own some stock in the Packers] so I get a lot of inside dirt on what's going on with the team that you can't get anywhere else. You also get to hang out with the players and it's usually a pretty darn good time.

Tell Greg Jennings this is his year to make the Pro-bowl. He is overdue, although I would hope he plays closer to his 2008 level than 2009.

I'm sure all you are itching in anticipation to know how the annual Packers shareholders meeting went on Thursday. Well, first off, we didn't get to mingle with the players on Thursday, that event was rescheduled for today, unfortunately, both my wife and I had to work today so we missed out this year. Now that that is out of the way, here's what the Green Bay Packers are going to do about falling revenue and profits, something that has afflicted all NFL teams the past couple of years.

First, the Packer organization has bought up 100's of acres of property near the stadium where they plan to build a sports complex to host Pop Warner Football games, Little League games, a convention center to host concerts and other events and several hotel complexes to house all the tourists in order to bring in more money not only for their coffers, but that of the surrounding communities. Because these new complexes are off field [meaning not part of Lambeau Field], all revenue generated belongs to the organization and the NFL does not get a cut of those profits from revenue sharing, per what the Commish said when he spoke after the meeting. This is a good thing considering Wisconsin's unemployment rate is hovering around 9.2% which means a lot of unemployed Wisconsinites will be put back to work very soon, which should help the States economy a little bit. I can't wait to see how all of this will look when it's all completed in a couple of years.

I forgot to mention that 25,000 people were in the stands for the shareholders meeting, 1/3 of stadium capacity.

Aug 3, 2010:  The NFL's prima-donna has decided he will not return to the Vikings because of a booboo on his poor, pitiful sore ankel.  Too bad, I was hoping he would come back so some defensive player would piss-pound the hack into the turf and send him home in a bodycast....

Oh, wait!  This is nothing more than a smokescreen.  His MO is to wait until training camp is over before waffeling and deciding he wants to come back because no-one is talking about him.  We all know his over-inflated ego can't handle that.  I dare ya to come back Favre.  I dare ya.

No they did not to my recollection.  Pretty much what I put in my previous post is what they have planned, though they may add a hockey rink as hockey is a popular sport here.  By the way, who are the Bullfrogs?
