This is something that has been asked before, elsewhere;
I realise it says what it does in the above posts; but should keep in mind how old they are. It's since been made mentioned [maybe not here] , that any pics whether hosted here or not, should be within forum limits. [However,] From time to time, things change. This being one of them.

I'm a bit confused.  I've read over this thread so that I can be informed before starting a CJ and posting pictures.  I understand the size constraints (800 x600) but am confused as to the size of the posts.  Early message stated a limit of 250KB, however; this post talks about a limit of 150KB.  Would someone be able to tell me the actual size limits for posting pictures?

Thanks, in advance.

Regards,

Vandy

If I were you I'd just host them off site. Take a look at J.O.'s 'how to host pics off site' tutorial. It's one of the stickys in this forum. Can't wait for your city journal!

Ok I am new to the site but not to the game itself.  This mught sound simple but I can't find my created regions or photo album on my C drive so I can post a cj.  when I played sc3000 I could find it in the maxis folder easy. I am guessing SC4 buries it or I have some other problem. Any suggestions.

You can find the photos and such in your My Documents folder. Very easy to find it...it has its own folder in there.

I have never put a picture on to Simtropolis apart from my avator so I have been very Simtropolis Memory freindly. Unfortunatley I will eventually and I am planning to host my images off-site. I am not a expert about how image size works and how to resize pictures. I think I am just going to have to practise.

Hey everyone, I get the whole 800 x 600 thing, thats pretty simple. But I just want to make sure of something. If you host a picture off site (ie. imageshack) can it be larger than 800 x 600? Thanks.

even pictures hosted off site must still be 800x600. This is done because of a scrolling issue, which makes it difficult to read text when larger pictures are posted. many would have to scroll to the side to see the rest of the picture anyhow, which would lessen the impact of the picture.

I'd just like to add a friendly reminder to this thread that pictures should be in JPEG format, not PNG, even if they are hosted off-site. PNGs take forever to load 24.gif and I for one tend to abandon reading any CJ when I see PNGs slowly starting to load. 34.gif You can convert PNGs to JPEGs in almost any photo or paint software by using the save as feature. 19.gif Thanks for your cooperation!

In order to help people out, to rescale to be within the limitations, here are couple of common image dimensions and the size to which you'll need to rescale them (percentage wise)
Firstly, remember that all images with dimensions of 800x600 or lower are fine on simtrop, as long as the filesize is correct.
Rescale images of dimensions 1024x768 to 78% (by the way, this makes the image 799x599 5.gif)
Rescale images of dimensions 1280x1024 to 58%. This will make the image 742x594 - if the percentage is any larger, it'll be too big.
And honestly, folks, it's really not that hard to rescale images. You can even do it in good 'ol Paint. in that program you go to the Image menu, and select the option that says 'Sketch/Skew'. Then, if you're using an image with one of the dimensions mentioned above, change the percentages in the area highlighted in this image (make sure the percentages are the same):
/idealbb/files/stretchskewpaint.jpghttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/stretchskewpaint.jpg>
Whatever you do - don't touch the 'Skew' area of the dialog box.  It will distort your image and probably force your image to be bigger - which would most likely result (if you uploaded it) in the image being taken down from the site.
Hope this all helps some of you. I don't use paint for resizing personally - but I have a program that I don't think many people would have, and thus felt it would probably be better to show an example from paint as for Windows users it's the lowest common denominator (ie all of the versions of windows I've ever worked with have paint).

No afraid that isn't better. MSpaint will mottle(see Mottling/Ink lay down) the pixels in a jpg. MSpaint hates jpg's. It will work if you keep the image as png or bmp. Later after saving it, you must use another application to convert it to jpg.

800x600 at 250kb maximum jpg is not strict, for a website that remains completely cost free, that happens to be phenominally generous.

EDIT: Sorry Mayormommy, for adding to older comments. I should read more carefully.

@Mayormommy: Actually I coulnd't say it better ... and I posted it so many times (mostly) on fresh CJs: please do NOT post pngs ...

As for turning them into JPGs I still like to use good ol' Irfanview - and since it is freeware nooe can complain there is no good free software available! (I don't count MSPaint as good software ...)
