Are there any Tree mods that "grow" like Maxis trees?

Hi,

Are there any tree mods or tree controllers that "grow" like the maxis trees grow?

I don't mind using the Maxis trees if they are the only ones that will grow, however I'd prefer to use 3rd party trees if there are any that grow like the maxis trees grow since the 3rd party trees are so much nicer to look at.  But I do like the  way the maxis trees grow and I guess will stick with them if that's the only ones that have the capability of spreading on my landscape.

I do believe some of Cycledogg's trees grow.  I know there are some custom forests in his Olympic tree modd where the descriptions state that they are logged or cut and regrow. Once I plopped down a fair amount of Sub Alpine Firs, and accidentally started the time clock.  It's like they were taking over...creepy.  I exited without saving because I didn't want that many of them.  I've yet to see a custom forest where all the trees are small when they start out, tho.  I guess that's true with the Maxis God Mode ones as well if I remember right.  I don't know how to tell for sure which ones do what if it isn't stated, but I guess you could plop them and run the clock fast to see. teeth_smile.gif

There are actually several mods where you can grow different trees. Check the STEX for CyclePuppy or Cycledog, he made different Treecontrollers that you can use with different rock, beach and ground textures also.

Okay, I guess I'll have to try some more of Cycledog's trees as I've tried quite a few but never noticed them spreading out like the maxis trees spread out.

    Thanks,

What do you mean by "spread out"? If you mean plant themselves beyond where you plopped them, that is not done by ANY tree mod, not even the maxis.. the maxis will make some of the "plops" seedlings which grow to fill, but they do not spread beyond where you placed them.

I'm not sure how else one would describe the pattern where I just observed them to be sure that I'm seeing what I'm seeing where I place a circle of trees on the landscape, and fast forward time and watch as they slowly (ever so slowly) fill my screen in an ever widening circle of trees.

Now, I'm not suggesting that the growth will take over the entire map, however it has taken over almost the entire screen in 91 years, suggesting that it's growing ever wider, by dropping seedlings at the edge of the forest of trees and growing.

It may very well stop this growth pattern at a certain time, or when it hits landscape that is not conducive to growing trees due to the landscape.

If you'd like to call this by any other name that's fine, but to me, this shows that the trees are growing in an ever widening circle and is what I'd like to achieve with 3rd party trees too if that's possible.

Screenshots of course are necessary to show that I'm saying when I say that they are growing and spreading beyond the original circle of trees: (all anybody needs to really look at is Year 00 and Year 112) to see how much the trees have grown and spread out.

I'm fairly sure spreading out only occurs in Terraforming / God Mode (before you name and start your city). I'm less sure that the cycledogg / cyclepuppy trees should function the same, but a quick look at the controller file didn't reveal any variable that would seem to change how far it grows (I'm not skilled in this so I may have missed something).

Anyway, the more I think of it, the less I really think that it's important about the natural growth spread of trees, I mean if it takes 112 years to spread out enough to cover my screen while that seems a lot to me at the time, it really isn't that much, unless of course it somehow otherwise affects some of the ratings in the game like environment by the trees spreading out even if it's only for 30 years or so that I'm playing a particular city.

In my experience, trees will keep on growing as long as there's the ideal terrain for them to grow and eventually filling the whole map whether it is small or large, they will not grow into another citytile though. If I remember right, it is the same with CP's treecontrollers.
