I got a map here that I wanna create in game... The problem is placing roads...

How do I measure the roads? I mean like... if there was (using a ruler) 1 inch of road on the map... how many tiles would it be in game..

That would depend on the scale of your map. In the game, each of the small grid squares in the game is 16 meters on a side. So you would need to use your map scale and go from there...

Somewhere on your map (probably in or near the legend) should be a diagram similar to this that wil tell you how long an inch (for example) is in real distance on the ground.

The map should have a key or legend somewhere that shows the scale

I'm currently facing the same issue. My workaround (which my friend actually did for me) has been to overlay the streets onto the Terraformer map. This gives you a pretty good idea on a tile by tile basis of where things should approximately be. If you want to go down this avenue I can find out how he did it, I know google was involved and I know it took him all of 20 minutes or so.

@thingfishs;  I'd really like to know how he went about that.  I've been wanting to do a region based on a couple states and was wanting to do something like that for placing highways so that i know aproximately where they should go.  If the OP of this thread doesn't need that feel free to start a new thread.  Thanks,

    The Scale says 1:250 000

Can anyone explain how I would go about measuring?... I'm not the greatest at math or maps XD

hm, the scale 1:250k is not descriptive enough.

it could be 1 inch to 250k feet?

    1 cm to 250k meter

    1 cm to 250k miles

    1 inch to 250k miles

    1 cm to 250k km?

    which one?

but to give you an idea

let's take 1 inch to 250k meters example.

so if the game, a square grid is 16 meters. to make 250k meters it will take 15,625 grid square in the game.

to cover an inch of your map. so if you want to draw the 2 inch long road in the map, it would be 2 * 15, 625 square in the game.

if it is 3 inch long road in the map it would be 3 * 15, 625 in the game.

    does this help?

That's a pretty large (small actually) scale ratio... What is your map of (just curious) Anyway, a scale such as this usually means that what ever unit of measure you use on the map, it is 250,000 times that on the ground. For example: If you measure 1 inch along a road on the map, the real ground distance would be 250,000 inches (about 5500 meters). Or if you measure 1 centimeter on the map, the ground distance would be 250,000 centimeters (2500 meters). From that you can divide it by the 16 meter grid square size to get how many squares. The 1 centimeter map measurement would work out to be about 156 grid squares (quite large - that's about two and a half small cities).

Hope this makes sense (and hope my math is correct)

If you were to show us a picture of the map (or even just the scale) in question that may help.
