well, i deleted my simcity4 deluxe editon from my comp by accident, but when i tried to reinstall it everytime i get to about 42% it says data corrupted, error with simcity5.dat.

d o i actually need this file ot install the game?

is there some other way i can get it or bypass it?

is there a patch update somewhere with this file, maybe i can copy it from there and put it in my original directory

also, i tried copying it from its orginal directory ( manually copying it) but i still get the same error message

maybe you have a scratched disc... try cleaning it with toothpaste

if that doesnt work...i would say pick up simcity box. there is nothing better than not having to find the updates... and you get to play some other city games

our world is a simcity

Yes you do need simcity5.dat for the game to run as it it critical for SC4 to work.

The only way to get simcity5.dat is from the disk.

A scratched disk is most likely the problem. This may help: http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Scratched-CD

If this does not work, you may have to buy a new SC4 disk.

You could re buy SC4 Deluxe, from Amazon.com or ebay.com.

But it is totally up to you.

I hope you get back playing Sim City soon!

You can try deleting all the Program Files folders for the game, except the Plugins folder, before you install the game.  When you uninstall the game, any folders with files that have been added, or altered won't be removed.

I have that problem too, exept with the sound.dat file. The game wouldnt run because it was missing so i created an empty file with the same name and walah! it works, minus the intro and sounds, but it works!

However it means i cannot install the patch and get nightlighting.

I think that this would not be an ideal solution for you as it is probbable necceserry for the game to work.
