Commute Time? Nonsense!

All my residential skyscrapers and highrises in my downtown keep going vacant due to "Commute Time".
Many also get no job zots over them.

The  thing is is that there are more commercial jobs in my city than residents, not to mention industrial jobs.
I also checks the traffic of the nearby roads, the traffic is fine. Occasionally youll see a road that is orange or yellow, but its mostly good. I have Bus Stops, Subway Stops, Parking Garages everywhere and I got a highway right next to the downtown. For some reason, The residents in my skyscrapers like to work either out  of town, or in the suburb area outside the downtown in small shops. My commercial offices have TONS of jobs avilable. Most are only half full. Again, this cant be commute time, because ther are plenty of jobs nearby with quick access and public transportation. Can someone please help me here? My downtown is constantly going vacant and jobless.

I've heard about a commute time bug big cities get, could this be it?

I got Sim City 4 deluxe. If you want a picture I can post one.

The ability of sims to find ways to jobs sucks. Very very badly.

Installing one of the Simulators will greatly increase the ability of sims to find their way around town. I personally suggest Simulator Z, as it copes well with (To the game) insane city designs.

Eternal Commuters happen when you have several cities connected together and sims end up making one eternal loop between them. It's fixed by breaking the loop in one of the cities, then going around and making sure it stops in the others.

Do you have the proper mix of R$, R$$ and R$$$? roughly 40,50,10 is about right usually. If you have too many R$$$ they will not be able to find jobs as each employer usually only employs 5-15% high wealth

Yeah, the NAM is a necessity to run the game and have any fun, and the only thing I can recommend. Maxis didn't intend for computer wizards to grow 10 million person cities with mega amounts of custom content. (ironic that the solution is custom content itself, isn't it?) As far as traffic simulators go, I'll try to give this a neutral approach. Simulator Z is regarded as the best, but personally it hasn't solved quite all of my problems. But who knows, maybe I'm just the worst city planner in the history of SC4. 4.gif Sims A and B are supposed to work well, but aren't perfect. Perfect Pathfinding is a tiny improvement at best. Better Pathfinding just fails. (So much for the neutral approach. 9.gif )

Good luck and hope that helps!
