custom airport questions

Hi

I'm looking at the airport packs available on here. I read in one that it does not have the functionality of the default airports, as in the commercial boost capabilities. I am getting confused with the amount of content. I've noticed some great looking pre-made terminals. Ideally I'd like to use one of those and build the runways and other parts around it. Even more ideal would be a a premade airport with realistic dimensions and full functionality.

Any comments or suggestions?

I can't recall the name of the pack at the moment, but I have an airport pack that includes a control tower that gives the airport functionality. Let me poke around for it and I'll post a link.

I have the same concern. there are many cool airport packs but they serve as worthless landmarks and I want a functional airport

Well you've asked the correct person!

I prefer this airport pack, but there are other addons you can download on your own. A great place to start is the STEX or the LEX. Simply search airport.

TERMINAL PIECES

ACE Modular Airport Base Pack - This is a good set for older looking airports.

Modern Aircraft Hangar by Muzz - I like to use hangars, they are great for modern airports!

 

ACB VLT Terminals and Jets Series 1 part 1 - These are the main terminals you need. They come with jets, terminal pieces, and other essential airport parts. IMPORTANT: This is part 1, you need part 2!

 

ACB VLT Terminals and Jets Series 1 part 2 - This is part 2, this is nescisary to make part 1 work.

TARMAC AND RUNWAY PIECES

RMIP 2 Small Airport Edition vol 1 - This is part 1 of the runway and taxiway pieces.

 

RMIP 2 Small Airport Edition Vol 2 - This is part 2 of the runway and taxiway pieces.

 

RMIP 2 Small Airport Edition Vol 3 - This is part 3 of the runway and taxiway pieces.

 

RMIP 2 Small Airport Edition Vol 4 - This is part 4 of the runway and taxiway pieces.

Remember, you need ALL of these to workm not just one!

Well thats all. There are more addons you can get, but its up to you if you want them!

Just to clarify though, all those packs, does one element or do they combined act in the same manor as original game airport, com boost, jobs, max capacity?

No, they are simply eye candy. None of them actually "function" but they are very nice to look at.

As said by thepokemaniac, the airport packs enables you to build realistic looking, eye-candy airports and terminals.

To get the effect of a functional airport, you should use the Airport Tram lot provided in one of the airport packs from AC (i think). Basically, this is a simple 1x1 plaza lot that acts like an airport; provides commercial boost and has a max capacity. If the custom airport is built on another city tile, I use the Airport Tram in every city the airport is supposed to serve. Plopped close to a mass transit station, the intention is to pretend that sims travel to the Airport Tram, switch to e.g. a train (or tram, hence the name) and head for the airport.

Great Questions and Thanks for the clarification guys... Your answers make a lot of sense now. I really do get the tram 1x1 piece, I was thinking of the same thing in my head when I realized that modular airports are eyecandy...
