Graphical Distortion in Region Mode

Ok, so I've had SC4 Rush Hour installed thousands of times on my PC.  I can't say that I've ever had this issue before.  I've ran without all my plugins and same thing.  I've downgraded my graphics drivers and options, and same thing.  I'm wondering if it might be an issue with Windows 7.  A picture of the distortion is attached.  PC Specs are below.

My PC is very capable of running the game, but I don't quite understand this.  It's currently on "hardware rendering", but I've even tried "software rendering" and still the same thing.  Any ideas?

AMD Phenom X4 9850

ASUS M3A79-T

2x ATI Radeon HD3870 (in CrossFire mode)

8GB G.Skill DDR2-800

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

Wow o.O Good specs.

I'm not very sure what the problem could be. Like you said, your computer is fully capable of running the game. And I know from experience that windows 7 is capable of running the game. If you have 2 core processors, try changing the affinity to only one processor. If not that...well...I don't know.

Thx :-).  I'll give it a try.  Right now, I have it running in an XP VM.  I'll keep playing around with it and see what I come up with.  I have a feeling that it might be related to my video card drivers, but not too sure yet.

Thank you for your help though :-)

Then it is only isolated cases. The operating system on my Toshiba laptop has no faults with SimCity, as well as this certain case.

Ok, so the question now is......

Is it something with the version of Windows 7 that people are running? Is it Retail Win 7 versus RTM/OEM Win 7? Is it Ultimate versus Home Premium, or 32-bit versus 64-bit?

    Something worth checking out.

I doubt it has anything to do with Windows 7, more likely it is related to the crossfire video card setup, or drivers.  It appears to be a popup window for exiting a city, so it could be a glitch in the game installation.

I also have this issue. I feel your pain, it sucks especially for large tiles since you most likely won't be able to play the city behind it. Its hit or miss for me, but I find quitting sc4 has a higher chance of avoiding this vs going back to region mode.

I still battle with it, I've been trying windowed mode and not full screen and it seems promising so far with reduced instances of that happening.

    My specs are:

    AMD Phenom II X4 810

    Gigabyte 790FX-UD5P

    2xATI Radeon HD4870 CF

    4GB DDR3 1066

    Vista Ultimate 64-bit

We have CF in common so I think that might be it.

Yeah, its a bit overpowered for sc4 but its one heck of a fun game with a great community! (dear EA and MC... graphics isn't everything)

Nice specs :-).  In the mean time, I would download Windows Virtual PC and the Windows XP Mode from M$ Website.  It's specifically for Win 7.  That's what I have my SC4 running in right now, and it does just fine.  In the mean time, I'll do some testing and keep playing around with it a bit.  I'll update on the progress.

Ok, so I did some testing and found that it's not the usual ATI culprits.  Tried w/o Crossfire, disabled Catalyst AI, disabled Adaptive AA and same thing.  So, back to running it in XP VM for now.

I have had this problem for the last 14 months with my new pc. im running xp and aslo have an ati card. i couldnt find a fix, so i gave up and just live with it. i find if it saves like that, just get back into the city and exit again, it will eventually save properly to region view. apart from that i have no solid answer, i had put it down to the ati card, seeing as i had never had anything other than nvidia before this new pc. and yes, it is a slight pain in the ass.

I went through a differnt trend to get here you said you had blue and green dots for people and buildings, it might be how you have you graphics set up, I don't know much about graphics cards, but can you make them so they are only running one thing, you might try something like that or turn down your ingame graphics. good luck. I think this happened to me back in the day, who remembers.
