What Annoys Me A Little

First, I don't say this to complain. I say it to ask if you know how to better it. Maybe with a mod you know.

What I noticed when I look at real cities on google maps versus simcity 4 is that real cities don't have vast tracks of commercial buildings. Real cities are largely residential. I don't know where people all work (look at your city on a map and wonder where all those people work). I suppose not everybody works, many are in school or retired.

Real cities do sometimes have industrial areas, but never half of the city consisting of shops and offices. In Simcity 4 you always have to build half of your city commercial, to employ the half that's residential. I find that unrealistic and annoying.

I already installed torocas service_doubler mod, but I don't think it works.

There are mods to double and probably triple the jobs of the commercial sector and quadruple the industrial sector, so go nuts.

Rionescu's right. Also, you're right; not everybody works. Just like in real life you've got the old people and the kids in elementary school. In my cities I usually add up the total jobs and divide it by the population. Anywhere between 50 and 70% employment is optimal, depending on your populations' age structures. You can apply the same formula regionally, too if your cities are really connected.

Of course, in real life you don't have one house that has 13 people living in it. I think that makes things a bit different.

I installed torocas services doubler, but the buildings I checked have the same amount of occupants as they do in the building reference list.

And that's service only, not office.

Do you know another mod that increases commercial building size? Or one for offices. I seached and couldn't find one.

Yes. I too don't understand where people all work. If I look at real cities I can't imagine where they work, it's largely all residential.

Yes, I suppose that's why real cities have such vast tracks of houses. There is just a person or two in each.

So maybe we need a mod that halves the number of sims in each house?  That would make most buildings a bit more realistic, especially the mansions.  It would also increase the ratio of houses to shops/factories.

Then all our cities would be half the size of we are used to. That's a step back.

All I really want is a mod that puts mor people in commercial offices.

I edited the building attributes with SC4 tools. But the file is too big to upload.

To anyone with the same problem: get SC4Tools, use the exemplar editor, load SimCity_1.dat, there under "Building" you see all the entries, edit the ones that start with "CO" for commercial office.

Edit the attribute that says "capacity satisfied" to what you want it to be.

Edit: Please note that demand is not jobs. If you do as I describe you will not get more jobs, only more demand satisfied.

Plug: I wish I did have those skills, but right now I can't even run SC4 properly!

EmperorNero: I suppose you could be right there, personally I think it would put all the cities to a correct "scale" in that the cities would have more res buildings.

In fact, I'd like to request this be done, or have a link for such a mod, as almost all the buildings seem to have too many sims in them.  I can remember having way too many commercial shops in my cities in comparison to everything else, so if i ever d/l such a mod, I'd zone over some of these to make it more realistic.

I doubled the capacity of al commercial offices with SC4 tools, but now it seems I screwed the game up because I get no large commercial buildings any more.

    Any idea?

I find that very high levels of education for my Sims increase demand for commercial office jobs. Of course, the demand for high tech industry also increases.
