Oh boy, here goes nothing

Anyway, I am trying to make a map of Borneo, and I have followed tutorials, etc with no,luck. Also on most of the websites I have visited, they dont offer terrain data for anywhere other that America.

Could someone please help me figure this out, direct me somewhere or something?

Thanks so much- oh and sorry for starting another thread, but I cant seem to get any info.

    Okay, I found a site here: http://www.gdem.aster.ersdac.or.jp/

    Now I have a new problem- I followed the tutorials on the omnibus, but no matter what tone of gray I changed my greyscale to, the land is either too low, or too high.

    Also, I cant use the raise/ lower terrain in simcity, because it doesn't go up just a little, but a whole ton.

    Here is what I am talking about.

    Its either this high, or this low

    Picture3-4.jpg

    Does this have to do with something I did wrong following the tutorial to change it to grayscale, or something else. please help

    Also, looking at tutorials, there is like 5 different sea-level colors from the 60s to the 80s- which is right?

    Thanks

    These are the grayscale color levels, at least very close.

    RGB= 0: 252 meters (827 feet) below sea level
    RGB= 84: Sea level
    RGB= 255: 513 meters (1683 feet) above sea level

    Other elevation values:

    RGB= 50: 102 meters (335 feet) below sea level
    RGB=100: 48 meters (157 feet) above sea level
    RGB= 150: 198 meters (650 feet) above sea level
    RGB= 200: 348 meters (1142 feet) above sea level

    with import.dat
        RGB=10 very deep water
        RGB=25 about sea level
        RGB=35 about one god mode level about sea level

    Thanks, what is an "import dat."?

    Edit: Okay, I created a small test region. I set the lowest land value for 87, and the water for 76

    Smalltest.jpg

    But when I rendered it, I get this:

    Picture1-5.jpg

    Absolutely no water, and the land it way too high! I have my files in the form png- does that matter?

    And like I said before, when I make the values lower, everything is below water- there is no in between for some reason.

    "import.dat" is a height mod that changes the way the game handles the grayscale colors.

    I suggest you use a 8 bit, 256 color jpg format.  If the png format isn't the problem, then you may have a height mod in the plugins folder

    Thanks everyone, I finally got around it by changing the brightness/ contrast little by little and testing in between until I found the correct values- a little old fashioned, but it worked ha ha
