"Can't find camera 'Z5'."

Are you trying to use a new BAT4max & LTBL? I'm guessing you are opening a scene that was made with an older light setup. Find and remove, or merge into new scene and EXCLUDE TB2camerahandle (or some such name). Unless of course this is happening in a new scene.

I don't know anything about the other two errors :\

The LetTherBeLight itself wouldn't cause any issues as it had been written in such away that it checks the version of you copy of 3ds Max and sets lighting accordingly. So the issue must lie elsewhere.

The cause of your problem might be that CameraRig files had be the fact that apparently I've at some point saved Camera Rig file in Max2008 (v10). Sad fact is that MAX files are not down compatible. EG Files from Max 8 can't be open in Max 7, etc. And although there are just cameras there , same very cameras that had been in Max since time immemorial file generally carries the list of all the plugins that are in use in that version of max it had been created in. So there you have error message about missing plugins - Arch&Design materials, etc...

As for the solution... well you can simply re-built the said CamLightingRig file yourself in your version of max. Or to be precise you can edit one from old BAT4Max - say Bat4Max 2.6HD That is available on STEX. Take from there TB2_CameraLightRig.max file, open it and delete all the lights. save file into gamepacks\BAT\scenes\CamLightRigs. And everything should be fine.

But generally... Max7 & 8 - it is stone age... The support for these would be fading away...

Well I've made this script for you. Download it here and unzip in some place where you would be able to find it.

Then in Max go to MAXScript -> RunScript and navigate to the place you've saved the script and select it. After thatn script would be automatically run and it will re-create Camera Rig in current scene. BTW you should open fresh max scene with absolutely nothing in it.

Ok when script had run it course (it would take a second or two) save current scene as TB2_CameraLightRig.max and place it into gamepacks\BAT\scenes\CamLightRigs. It should work fine for that max version and any newer.

    Thanks Simfox !

first, the error "Can't find camera 'Z5'." has disappeared, but the other two continue.

[ save current scene as TB2_CameraLightRig.max ] this step can not do it, as I do?

    Thanks Simfox !

Well Squish DLLs are used by fshwrite to process image from bmp to FSHs -the textures applied by game to LOD shapes. I've never seen this error message before but I don't remember if I have ever run this tool on XP, most probably not... It works fine on Vista and Windows7. Although both are x64 so fshwrite uses Squish_x64.dll I suppose...

I'll contact the creator of those for some info, and be back here with some answers, I hope

    Oh great!

I had your message open here while I was checking some stuff, translating error message from spanish to english and writing to null45... anyway glad to here that the problem is resolved and good to know of this potention issue and solution.

I'll add this to the Troubleshooting FAQ I'm building.

When i export my building, I get only a lot of .tgi files and some folders with images.... What I did wrong? :S... and... how to convert that to .sc4model?

Sorry, I It's the first time i use BAT on 3ds Max 4.gif

I have a small problem with Bat4Max. I'm new to BATing and I've just made my first model for SimCity - it's a soviet era two-storey communal apartment. Anyway, when I exported the model a minor glitch appeared on one side (and on only one zoom level!) of the house. See for yourself:

    467_bug.JPG

There's no black stripe when rendering in Max, only in exporting the model (and I've exported it several times). I'm using the latest Bat4Max and 3ds Max 2011.

    Anyone?

    Hello:

I'm trying to get BAT4Max 4.5 to work in max 2011 design but am having problems very similar to what Cockatoo-210893 had on page 2 where after I click the DAT FSH insert nothing happens. Here is the quote from his post:

Hey SF, I'm having a bit of trouble with v4.5, I can't seem to get DAT FSH Insert to work, or for that matter, I can't get anything to the SC4Model file at all - same problem with truNite process.

I export the .bmp files no problems at all, click FSH Batch Build and that all seems to be working, FSH's are created properly, but then I hit DAT FSH Insert and nothing happens. The command line flicks open for a split second and then automatically closes again.

I had this problem when I first started out - it was to do with spaces in the model name, but there were NO spaces in the model name this time. Any ideas, I certainly didn't have this issue with v4.

Windows 7 HP, Max 2008. Max root installation folder is simply C:/Max. Everything is installed in the right place.

I am using Vista 64bit Max 2011 design. I tried just using the BAT in Gmax and that worked no problem.

Hereis a Pic of my max BAT folder and it's location.

    2308201012542pm.jpg

    My BAT4Max ini file

    2308201012724pm.jpg

This is how the BAT script looks in max. Everything seems to be in the right place.

    max1y.jpg

This is the BAT in Gmax

    gmax1.jpg

Back in Max I get the SC4file ready for rendering.

    getmodel.jpg

After render my Max/BAT folder looks like this. The BAT file is clearly there. So far everything seems to be going smoothly.

    scenerenderbatfile.jpg

    My output folder:

    outputfiles.jpg

Now comes the trouble. I hit FSH BAT Build, a cmd screen pops up for about 10 seconds and is clearly doing something. Then it finishes. Then I hit the DAT FSH Insert, a cmd screen pops up for a split second only. I have tried this with Autoexecute enabled or dissabled, same result. I have followed the instructions from 1-10 in "Exporting Day"

    fshbatch.jpg

Here is the result I get using the new PIM. You notice there is nothing there. It's supposed to be just a Test Box 6m-6m-6m.

    pluginmanagerblnk.jpg

Here is a pic of my bmax gamepacks folder. I use the gmax files in the BAT4Max 4.5 download and I beleive I put them in the proper place.

    gmaxbatfiles.jpg

I am hoping I was thorough enough in explaining my problem. I am quite familiar with max (intermediate to advanced level user).

    Thanks in advance.

    artist:

The part that inserts the .FSH files into the .SC4Model file can't handle spaces in the path.  There are spaces in your path in "Program Files" and "3ds Max Design 2011".  This is one of the reasons you were supposed to install it into a location with no spaces in the path.

But that's ok, you'll just need to insert the .FSH files into your .SC4Model file manually.  Do everything as usual, and then open the .SC4Model in ilive's reader, and delete the existing .FSH files (they'll be black (which is what got rendered when you exported your LODs from gmax)).  Then right click in the middle of the screen and "Insert and Compress" the .FSH files.  They can be found in the outputfiles folder.

Dagaith:  Nothing should really be changing between your preview renders and your export renders.  They both use the same rendering settings.  So I don't know what to tell you.

    Hi,

I've been working on my first real BAT. However I have several problems creating a good lot:

    1. I'm using 3ds max 2009 32-bit with the latest BAT4Max (2k 4.5). I created a model and followed the instructions in the BAT4Max topic to create a day model: everything works and the model appears correct.

But when I create a night model (again following the instructions in the topic) and exports without errors it doesn't light up in the game (I also reinstalled the plugin by removing the old .SC4DESC file and creating a new lot). I've tried a lot but I couldn't get it to work.

    2. It's not the right forum but I thought it was better to put everything in one topic: in the Lot Editor, I don't have the button 'Replace Item' and I swear It was there when I used the Lot Editor for the first time (several years ago).

I have Windows 7 64-bit. I don't intend to downgrade to Vista or XP. I did find another topic about this problem which suggests setting the compatibility mode to XP Service Pack 2 but that didn't work for me.

I'm really desperate fixing this because I want to create many BAT's and possibly a City Journal. 14.gif

You might be having the same problem as Artist had above. Is 3ds max installed somewhere with spaces in the path? If so, the button which inserts the .FSHs won't work, and you'll simply need to do it manually with ilive's reader.

That's really funny, because I reinstalled 3ds max to C:\3dsmax_2009\ a few hours ago because the model didn't show up at all. But the model does show up (and I just solved the Lot Editor issue) but at night, the lights don't appear (even with power). There are no errors

Do other BATs have nitelites? Also, sometimes it can take a while for nitelites to turn on, so many you haven't waited long enough?

When you open the .SC4Model file in ilive's reader, do you see both day and night .FSH?

How do I see which FSH's are day and which are night? because in Reader I only see a code and the word FSH. I tried everything again but it didn't work while other buildings do have lights. Bat4Max does say the FSH's are imported into the SC4MODEL file.

No need to. I just noticed I needed to install the BAT update for EP1 update as well. Although the model doesn't look good, it does have lights now. Everything works fine. (Stupid)

Hi Simfox... finally back from the summer.
Barely did any modelling, but I was tempted to switch from a 3GB ram laptop to a 6GB desktop (vista to w7). So I thought I'd update software too! Im now using 2010... but having some difficulty.

This pops-up when I open 2010 (after installing b4m). It pops up evertime... Also, do you notice the BAT rollouts? There's only two. That's because it asks me for my plugin path file, but I put in the specific folder... and it doesn't work. I've used the pop-up, I've manually pasted the filepath in there (and it wont save... even though I have sufficient privelages). I've replaced and deleted the .ini file too. But nothing seems to work.

    Here's a little screenie.

    15p2xhf.png

I've read over this thread a couple of times... is there something I missed? I'm 100% sure I've installed it correctly.

    Few points.

    • why did you choose 32 bit version of Max to run in 64 bit environment. Do you realize that you will not be able to use all the memory you have in your computer?
    • the message you have is there cause you didn't follow installation instructions to the letter.
    • you've made sure that you don't have empty spaces in Path by going "3ds_Max_2010", yet that folder sits inside one called  "Program Files (x86)".

First of all if you want to have fully automated FSH insertion with this version of BAT4 Max you would need to have your Max to be installed in the folder with no empty spaces in the path. But check the entire path this time!

So that means re-installing everything anew. When you do it follow instructions preciselly - just make a list and tick  it once next step is done.

Make sure you allow writing to the folder the BAT is in. The fact that it wouldn't store the Path to your Plugin folder and that you have that message you show on a screenshot is a there becasue script couldn't modify BATFOR MAX.ini. The only reason it couln't is because you don't have permission to do so.
