R to C to I RATIO

I've read somewehere that because only half the population works, the commercial and industrial zones (combined) should be half (50%) that of residential. Yet, I've noticed that others claim that the correct ratio is 3R, 2I and 1C, in other words, I+C should be equal to R. Which of the two is it?

Well im pretty sure (anyone can correct me if im wrong) that the 50% of the population is the closest. I would say more of the lines of 70% but i don't know the exact numbers. If you think about it, your workforce is the amount of sims that can work. That means that a 5 year old won't have a job. Same goes for a 70 year old. If you really want to know how many commercial and industrial jobs you need, you could figure out how many 18-65? year olds there are and how many 0-17 and 66+ year olds and get the ratio of those. Then apply your ratio to the total population. You also have to figure in commute times, desiribility, ect.

Awaiting signature arrival...

Its definately R/2 = I + C. I call it the the golden rule... I always check to make sure this is true for a healthy economy. However it flucuates depending on commuters crossing city borders and sometimes I find the industry capacity is actually a lot smaller then what it says and I find commercial to be a lot safer for jobs.

It varies by the education quotient but not by much.. it also depends on the ratio of R$, R$$, and R$$$ in the R population . for example if you have all R$$$ you will never be able to get the workers... they must match the type of work that they can do.. This has been covered many times and a brief search on the topic will find many more detailed threads and references
