Vehicles and buildings under construction disappear partially

Ever since I started playing recently, cars and trains have been doing a weird disappearing thing:  they partially disappear, with lines of disappearance on them.  Pretty annoying.  This happens most often when they get under shadows.

Also, if a building is under construction, moving the viewport around can make it disappear completely or only partially, in the same fashion as the vehicles do.  This ends after it's done (when the shadow appears) or sometimes when it moves up a segment.  I have a screenshot of this happening for both vehicles and a building.

you should list what your graphics options are... running software or hardware... your os with system specs... and what version of the game you are running (is it patched?)

it would help the community to center in on the specific problem

our world is a simcity

My settings are all radio buttons on high, 32-bit color, 1600x1200 resolution, hardware, and all check boxes checked in the options. So pretty much max. The version is 1.1.640.0, just patched today (the problem has been happening for a while, though). My video card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 and my processor is a non-overclocked Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz. I have 6 GB of RAM. Hope this helps.

Under ubuntu/wine, this occurs if the game is run with DX9 instead of opengl.

Under MSWindows (of some form) it might be a directX issue (fully up-to-date ?)

You can try starting the game using  -d:opengl as a parameter, or -d:soft to see if this fixes the problem.

Thank you, Slab! -d:soft worked miraculously and even fixed the other issue I was having of lagging when panning vertically. By the way, does this do the same thing as software mode in video options?

    Yes.

I am having a similar issue with all moving objects cars people windmills etc.  Force V-sync reduced it but not removed completely.  For me tho Software render is not an option as it seems to introduce other terrain graphical anomolies.

You might also take a look at THIS POST as it seems to solve similar issues for some If you're forced to run in software rendering mode, its likely there is incomplete or incorrect driver or support issues with your video card
