Zoning Industry

I've got three cities in a region of about 120k sims. Demand is high in all areas in all cities. What's the best way to do the industrial thing. I don't wanna put any more industry near my residential or commercial because i don't want the dirty or manufacturing to grow there. But I want more high tech. Should I crank up the taxes on the other two to allow for high tech to grow. Do you generally try to keep different types on industry in different cities (ie. one has dirty, other manufacturing, other high tech) by adjusting taxes in each city? Or does that spread jobs too thin?

I mix and match industries happily.. its a function of what you're trying to do.. If you have HIGHTECH DEMAND then you can start phasing out other industries by taxes or whatever.. but if you have no demand all you'll do is ruin your R demand if you do it too early.. also if you just let the city develop these things occur naturally.. and also C demand overtakes I demand over time if you supply the zones.. there is no trick to it actually

I eliminate ID and IM entirely. You don't need them in a developed city with a strong educational system. They're primarily employers for dumb R$ sims, but dumb R$ sims can work in literally every other employer type in the game, so there's no need to put up with polluting factories if you don't want them.

Of course you can always put the DI in another town. If I want a really clean town I put the DI and power in a small town maybe a subburan setting, that connects. This keep all my pollution out and can service many cities with garbage pickup.
