Farm Silos Always Make 0 C In Taxes

I have a silo in the middle of a farming area that makes 0 in taxes, then goes bankrupt, rebuilds, repeats.

I have tried upgrading the road, making sure that nearly 100% of the silo's coverage area is under cultivation, I have supplied water to my farms.  Silo still makes 0.

What am I missing?

edit:  I think I found an answer, though it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Even though the game says my silo does better due to nearby freight, I built a new road that goes offmap much closer to the silo.  The silo is now turning a profit, albeit a small one.

Can anyone explain why this would be?

Were there any traffic issues around the silo? I think that counts against freight / passengers 4.gif

if its hard for them to sell their stuff due to low production (pollution) or hard road access (traffic/long freight trips), it makes sense that they have trouble making profit 2.gif

I had this issue as well. I was able to improve it by putting workers closer to it, mine were too far away.

In general it would be nice for message to be accurate though 4.gif i.e., if you are situated on a blocked road because of traffic issues, which means you can't reach the interstate you need to get on, and you are asked "how is your business doing?", you wouldn't say "oh fine there's an interstate around the corner! (ignore me going bankrupt here, I'm fine... really!)", but rather "Terrible! There's traffic jams here all the time!" 2.gif

Thanks for the input, I think that traffic really was the underlying issue here.

I mentioned that I built a new road going off map and that the silo became profitable soon after.  Well, sometime later I brought up the economy->traffic tool and noticed that I had a traffic problem on the original off map road.  At the time I didn't connect this to my earlier silo problem, but now it all makes more sense.

I see now, that would also explain the positive spike in cash flow after I widened the road leading off map.

There's also a "freight" overlay in economy that shows you which roads have good freight access. This can be particularly useful as the dirt farm roads tend to be poor for freight so it's handy to see where you need to add some better paved roads to your farm/silo network. I expect if you look now it'll be a nice solid yellow around the silo, but before the new road you built, it probably would have been a faded yellow/gray.
