Game Crashing

I installed the game, made my account and started the game. When it reaches the game menu it always crashes right away. I have windows xp and a fairly new computer with very good processing. The beta worked fine on my computer but the real game is just not working. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix this problem?

The same for me. I can start the game and name my city. When I try to build a road the game crashes. I bought a new computer this spring (Intel Core 2 quad Q9300, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT,1 GB, Windows Xp 64). I'll try to upgrade the graphic card, maybe that that helps.

No, that's not the problem. I have the latest driver installed. I guess I just have to wait and see what Monte Christo can do about it.

I can start the game, but every word in the game starts with a "&" and when I choose a road in solomode it crashes. I played the demo version with no problems at all.

Having the exact same problem;

Game (v1.0.3.367) crashes whenever I try to use any (not just roads) build option

Every word in the game starts with a '&'

The tutorial seems to be missing (only getting a text like '&Tutorial_01_')

I have the Limeted Edition I downloaded from Steam

I updated all my drivers and reinstalled the game 3x

My system;

Vista 32

Q9550 (stock speeds)

GTX280 (stock speeds)

4gb

I used the support option on their website and they replied withing 3 hours asking for more info, if they have a fix I will let you know (you might want to use the support option as well, they might want to fix it faster 4.gif)

I can't believe it but there might be a very simple solution for you;

If you have the '&' in front of words problems and the CTD whenever you use the build option, try this;

When you launch the game make sure you select your language option (right under your login name). My language option was not selected and was the cause of my problems. After I checked 'English' I had no more '&' in front of words and no more CTD

I can finally start playing!

Hope this works for you all

Wish that solution worked for me but it does not.

When I launch the game I get the intro but shortly after that a CTD and error.

After a lot of problems even getting this game installed now this....one of the worst launches ever of any game I ever encountered and them are loads.

Bollox.

I had lost and lost of problems with this game but was able to sort them out...

Maybe this will help someone else...

I have Windows 7 installed so everything should be the same for Vista...

Bought and installed the game and then the first crash happens lots of "&" on the start menu, error can't find key.xml etc. Solved by entering the installation folder, rmb properties of the exe file, compatibility tab and check compatibility mode for Win XP SP3 and Run this program as an admin...

Open Windows firewall (or NOD32 or whatever You have) and allow the Cities XL pass through...

Open Your router admin page and open TCP port 3638...

After all of this i still had problems running the game but that was because of my LAN card, I've put in another one now everything works without any problems...

Hope this all helps.

P.S. IMHO Sim City 4 is alot more evolved, interesting and simply way better but thats just me! 9.gif

Yes, we found an issue that might happen on some versions of Vista/Windows 7 with language selection. I cannot say if this will solve the issue for all of you, but the workaround given by DarkerHelmet should work for most: make sure to select a language in the launcher dropdown menu when you launch the game.

We will be releasing a fix for this specific issue this week.

I logged onto the SE client and downloaded and installed all the updates and now when I click on the exe file, Vista just says it has stopped working.

I have no clue what to do now. I am using Vista 64. I have tried running the application using Win XP compatibility mode and as an admin but still nothing.

Please help

EDIT 2 : Everything works now. Needed a graphics driver upgrade 9.gif

Anyone else having the "Servers are down for maintenance" message when attempting to launch the game? I've gotten that message for two days now. Not a single response from Monte Cristo help after sending them an email. I have made sure my firewall allows the program internet access and also opened the port they specified on the Cities XL site. I'm getting really pissed off. Very close to contacting my credit card company and disputing the charge. And I was so excited to play this game...not so much anymore.

Updated all my drivers. Nothing. Vista 64 Home Edition.

I don't know about this "Select Language" thing because the pull down menu underneath log in name is blank so I don't even get the option to select a language.

ugh.

All the bugs and issues were pointed out on the beta forums, usually multiple times.

The game was just rushed.

**Use at your own risk, make a backup of the file you edit!!!**

If you cannot see a list of languages try this to set your language:

  • Go to Start > Run
  • Type "%appdata%"
    • Vista or windows 7 users will be in a folder like "C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming"
    • go up 1 folder and go into the folder named Local
  • open the folder "Monte Cristo"
  • open the folder "Cities XL"
  • open the folder "live"
  • open the file "cuLauncher.cfg" in notepad (you may only see cuLauncher.)
  • make sure the language line reads "<language>en</language>"

Oh, The possible settings are: en, de, fr
