Disappearing Cities

Every now and again I will be playing on a city, and thens when I go back to the Neighbourhood Screen, the city has disappeared leaving a blank square un-landscaped, forcing me to start it again.  How do I prevent this from happening, and if it does happen again, is there a way to recover the lost city; or is there perhaps an easy way I can back up my cities?

P.S:

These are the items I have from the STEX:  I have the latest NAM (I think without the update), the gentle slope mod for railways, and a commuter station.

I don't think I know what is causing you problem? The city just turns to flat grassland? That maybe a problem with the map or config, I know before I change maps and switch configs all the cities that change shape become "unlandscapped". I hope this helps in some way.

I had that same problem that was caused by using accented characters in the city's name.

I have been thinking about this since you posted, and I hadn't come across the answer.

The cities will do this if the have foreign characters in the city name. Im not too sure if this includes; *, #, . and so on. But just for a rule, I don't use those characters.

I would just stick to letters, and I would be cautious about numbers.
