Welcome to this City Building topic.

Before reading stuff in this, you need to download:

  1. The lastest NAM
  2. (Optional) The Cul De Sac mod
  3. PEG's Alley Mod
  4. Basically anything that is transit enabled (and UDI enabled, but this is optional
  5. SAM & Road Tunnels
  6. Road and rail tunnels
  7. GLR-Subway tunnel
  8. Al the other roading tunnels
  9. Any oversized signs, with dependencies
That is basically it.

I'll update this list whenever possible

The first topic I want to talk about is replacing roads with the NAM's Rural Highway Mod.

Roads are the old throughfares for your cities, and the avenues generally replace the roads.

Instead, use the Rural highway mod whenever possible, because you can:

    1. Create Rural Highways (duh)

    2. Make 5-lane one-way streets (kinda' replaces the 2 lanes of the one-way road that comes with the game)

    3. Make 2 way throughfares (or as they say in the UK and New Zealand [sometimes]), dual carriageway.

    4. Make motorways and highways  wider than the motorways and highways that go through Spaghetti Junction, Auckland (mamma mia!).

    5. Make 3-lane boulevards through your cities.

    6. Replace your roads with 2 lane Rural Highway mod (looks better, but does not have traffic lights, but to fix that, just download the fake traffic lights off the STEX, LEX or whatever).

To make a 2 lane, 2 way road, just use the no monthly cost tool, found in the highway menu. Just drag like a normal road, and it will, well, turn into a road.

To make a 2 lane, one way road, if it be a dual carriageway or just a better looking one-way road, use the 2 Lane Starter Piece

     in the direction you want

To make a 3 Lane highway, just place 2 starter pieces parallel to each other, and drag using the tool.

Do the same for the rest.

But to make a 5-lane one-way road, just place the starter piece in the direction you want and drag the tool from the starter piece.

Voila, the some what perfect roading system

Next topic, why put rails in your roads? .

And one more thing, I forgot to mention that you can comment about this. No harsh comments, else you may get it one day. Maybe on the 21st - 23rd December 2012, allegedly the days of the so-called apocalypse.

If you survive that one (if if even comes), you may have

    a. Rectal leakage

    b. Mutated body parts

    c. No brain, coz' you ate it, because you are a zombie

    d. a huge concrete and lead shell over your head to protect you from radiation and gamma rays.

OK, thats it for this topic

So, this is a thread for ideas on future transportation ideas for Simcity?

If so, then are mountain trams or ski lifts possible using the same kind of method as the power lines?

This is not a requst thread. It is a thread of ideas of how to use existing things such as the RHW

    Correct.

Anyway, I will post something new tomorrow, which is why put rails in your roads.

Plus this may get the attention of a 35.gif.

This is just a short thing:

Why Put rails in your roads?

One thing is you don't have to put freight stations in your industrial areas and it is better than rail because it takes up less space.

    Sorry this is so short.

That's a good point, however getting freight to move on it would require a change from Elevated Rail to Heavy rail, which to me seems a bit unrealistic. However, in a Utopian society, that would be a great way to reduce pollution! Personally, I think putting GLR on all streets, roads, and avenues is a pretty good idea, save for the massive expenses.

Nice idea, but: are there any revolutionary ideas about how to handle the "junction" topic? With the RHW crossings are only available for the RHW-2 and -4. So how do you make an e.g. 3 or 5 lane one-way street througout your city? 'Cause you cannot bild an overpass for every junction ... so if there are any good ideas out there pleeeease share!

I too like the RHW for it's look-a-like (muuuuuch better then those maxis avenues, e.g.) but when it comes to crossings ....  8.gif

    i go with rofl

btw rhw 3 and 5 are not extra capacity compared to rhw 2 and 4 be cause the expansion (rhw 3 ) doesn't carry a extra lane, and rhw5 doesn't add a lane.

sc4 only judges capacity by lanes

I think Seb3565 was referring to RHW 6 & 10, as they have 3 & 5 lanes each way, respectively.

MIS = One lane road, both ways

RHW 2 = One lane both ways

    RHW 4 = Two lanes  "       "

    RHW 6 = Three lanes "     "

    RHW 8 = Four lanes  "      "

    RHW 10 = Five lanes "      "

Utopia is here! Or at least in some parts of Europe..

    dresden-003.jpg

This is a freight tram from Dresden, Germany. It uses the existing tram network to get around. A similar project is started in Amsterdam, Netherlands, as an attempt to reduce pollution caused by trucks and vans in the city center.

Implementing this in SC4 could cause a headache, though..
