The trash decays exponentially (this means increasingly slowly).. so the last bit of it is a bit slow to go..I'd allow about 20yrs for it to go away

If you don't mind cheating, get one of those custom lots that eats garbage, like Pegs Garbage Chute. There was an SFBT Waste to Energy plant too. The ingame WTE works but is expensive.

Put a few of these in (lots if you are in a real hurry and don't mind the extra expense). That makes the garbage go down faster.

With the in game plants, you can just turn the funding to 0. It wont produce power but it will still burn trash!!

Not only the in-game plant, all waste to energy plants have this "bug".

Good idea for the meteror but it's to dangerous, I don't want too see my buildings fall down.

If you have buildings of any sort (well, except for ID) around your dump, I think you're not putting dumps far enough away from the city. Not like I ever really use dumps, but if I did I'd put them all the way on another city tile that I rarely play.

If you can't find the Garbage Chute, look on Peg's site - it will most likely be there if it isn't here.

One thing I noticed about dumps - a bug it seems - is that if you try to put one in a "city" that doesn't have any zones it will say there's no road access. Also, you can never just put a road around/next to a dump, you actually have to put at least 1 tile actually going into it.

the garbage will disapear only if your garbage in the city meets the capacity of any landfill you might have. the best way to get rid of it is to put a huge landfill in a neighboring region and making a deal, or use a cheat that eliminates garbage. there is chart you can see in the game that shows your capacity and how much garbage is in your city.

That is a safe distance for a meteor to strike, but getting it to hit that spot is tricky. How about a volcano instead, it is big enough to hold the disasters volcano without destroying any buildings, or you could terraform by using ctrl + 1-9; 1= smallest, 9=largest(this changes the size of the circle)

You can easily empty a dump without cheating by using incinerators. As far as I remember, trying to wipe it out with disasters won't work. You'll just end up with garbage plastered to the inside wall of the crater.

i will try using incinerators but as far i remember it' didn't work, but i will try. And you tell about cheats. Existing a cheat which remove dump like when you remove industrial zone ? without download a special mod with a new incinerator or a chute on the earth of the land or other things like that...

Sorry for my english. i hope you will understand that i want.

I have an issue on this subject as well. Not all real world garbage is incinerated, so to make the simulation more realistic, I would like to use landfills more.

Problem is that landfills seem to become WAY more expensive, even when you've abandoned it. Is there any mod that keeps landfills operating at $5 a space? That would seem to be the right upkeep for a real landfill and the garbage pickup/delivery upkeep is independent of the landfills.

Is the simulation accurate, or is there a way to make this adjustment? Thanks.

hu51: 1. I know of no mod which allows you to delete garbage tiles (in fact I'm sure it doesn't exist)

    2. You can put the incinerators (use the WTE waste to energy maxis units at zero funding) which will empty the dump faster and so it will go away faster.. .. If in one year garbage goes to the dump it "resets" the decay and takes much longer. After the dump is gone, you can continue to use whatever garbage option you want to use.

    BattleshipAgincourt:

3 I like to use landfills, but I agree that it is a bit overstated on the cost and management of it.. once again you can thank Will Wright's "greenie" bent.. I know of no one who has mentioned how to reduce the cost/month of a tile of dump.. It may be programmed into the exe.. I don't know

    4. Whether it's "accurate" or not is hard to say.. people speak in the problems lasting for millenia to have dumps decay, but frankly I expect it may be a bit "over the top".. on the other hand as we develop newer materials they seem to have extreme half life.. so perhaps we will suffer the ignominious fate of being buried in our own waste.. figuratively or litterally.. 4.gif

Edit: Sorry, this "method" didn't work when I tried it again.  Now I have my own little 2x2 block sitting around.  If I ever figure out what I did last time, I'll edit this again.  SC4BOY - yeah, there are a variety of things that could be happening, but what I have looks just like the screenshot above.

Old post: I'm pretty sure I was able to get rid of the eternal 2x2 block by rezoning a large landfill including and beyond block itself and then dezoning the entire thing, but it only happened once to me and it was a long time ago.

I forgot when I got a "stuck" one once.. but this isn't what he's saying as I understand it. The garbage lots in order to function and to delete properly MUST BE in exactly 2x2 blocks.. I seem to recall researching a problem once and the problem was that it was not a multiple.. Normally the game prevents you from making a area that isn't like that, but you can fool it either on purpose or by accident. If that happens I agree your method may work.. ie you have an empty garbage lot and it still won't delete.. normally they just can be deleted
