Question about pederstrian tiles

I have seen on some CJs that buildings are built surrounded by pedestrian tiles.  If one surrounds a building with them does that count in making sure it is connected to a transit enabled item, i.e. road?

That would go a long way to help me create a pleasing CBD.  Thanks for your help!

It counts as a road to all except residential.. plus it won't act for buses, cars, etc

They are really quite simple, there a road, re textured and only allow pedestrians. If you just connect them to a zone (the way the arrows are pointing) then it should be fine. I would also put subway stations if its an elaborate system.

A DOWN SIDE is that these don't work with residential. I suppose that sims always need the option of taking a car :-/ but with commercial and industrial it should be fine.

@SC4BOY Oh no!! you are always posting in exacly the same minute as me!!!!32.gif3.gif

What the city journalers may do is:

they replace the road with ped mall tiles after buildings have grown,

then they turn off the no car zots using the cheat code "tastyzots",

then they take the picture(s),

then they destroy the pedestrian mall tiles and put the road back.

This is done while the game is paused.

Of course, this is a lot to do; but if you really want it to look like residential on pedmall tiles, it could work.

Then again, it's not nessecary with C or I.

I don't know, I've never used such a method.

The way the arrow points is completely irrelevant to the way the pedestrians move on the ped malls... There may be custom lots that allow only a path for the ped's but not the one's with the NAM or in the "transport" menu.. those act in all directions.

I believe that it works because of the pathing, like it is a crossroads. A person can go any direction onto another ped mall or into a building

As far as pedmalls are concerned (I'm relatively new to them) - if you want sims to go from car to foot (i.e. when commuting from residential to commercial), do you have to build a parking garage at the 'transition' point or do they just change transport mode en-route. If this is the case, where do they park their vehicles 3.gif

you have to form SOME kind of transition.. if they aren't pedestrians, they can't enter a pedmall lot

If i can remember correctly, peds in residential's can use ped malls that are placed to the sides or the rear of the zone, but they have to have the option to use a car, so a road is necessary in front.

I second that SCBoy said about the arrows not mattering.  I've done a lot of experiments with pedmalls myself since I love walking, always walk anywhere I can rather than drive, but anway..  Also, pedmalls can work in the REAR of residential zones, kinda like an alleyway.  use the route query and you can verify this easily.

Minor correction about ped malls with industry - you still need some road, or rail, for industry. Freight has to be able to get out.

I respecfully disagree with the above post concerning pedmalls and industry.  I have had no problems growing industry with no road connexions, using only pedmalls.  Then again, this may be because the industrial structures were within a certain distance from a road (as industry does not need to be directly facing a road to grow).

I believe that jmusacha is saying that he replaces some roads with pedmall tiles, but still keeps roads within 8 tiles of industry. In other words, there may not be roads everywhere, but there are still some.
