I'm sure I just opened a can of worms. It's nearly summer and I'll be out of town a ton... but I have until 10,000 to beat un! On another note... it's been like two months or something since Sarah broke up with me... but I met 2 girls tonight... ok 1 is an old hook up but I think I'm finally back on the horse. Oh yeah... I turn freakin' 30 years old today. Yay. This crap was never supposed to happen!

That screw up was my bad, by the way. So like I said... my bad.

Happy Birthday from me, as well.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Well, the thread started September 14, 2009. It is now June 6, 2010, some 265 days, which is an average rate of 22.2188679... posts per day. Dividing 10,000 by this yields 450 days from the initial post, which is 1 year, 85 days from the initial post or 185 days from today, which is...

December 8, 2010.

This estimate is almost certainly wrong, but an interesting exercise nevertheless. I'm using my time zone, by the way. Your dates may differ.

A general estimate of November 2010 to January 2011 would be reasonable though, wouldn't it?

I could very easily br proven wrong, but I'm saying this anyways. The great thing about estimates (with ST, especially) is...that they're usually pretty off. 3.gif

The interesting question is what will happen upon reaching 10,000. Obviously the thread should then be locked (and perhaps a new one started), but that won't happen immediately - and with the inevitable snipiing there is likely to be a little bit of overflow. What to do about that?

I would propose that we just take any posts after the 10,000th and move them over to the new thread (Vince, you listening? 3.gif), but I suppose that isn't absolutely necessary. Either way, I'm not counting them. 10,000 is the cutoff. No playing after the buzzer sounds!

We could then rename the thread "The 20,000 Post Thread", but that would probably take much too long to load. A new 10,000 post thread after the end of this one sounds fun, though.

Why not make it the 15,000 post thread after 10,000 posts have been accomplished?

The first 100 posts after 10,000 would most likely be celebratory.

Lady GaGa is extremely avant-garde. I am not all that in to avant-garde, though.

Don't worry, the page doesn't change until after post #5910.

I like some of Lady Gaga's songs. Poker Face, Just Dance and Telephone are my favourites out of the ones I can remember listening to, and are the only Lady Gaga songs I own.

Have you checked behind the couch?

It really depends on your definition of real music.

Ooh, a list. Let's see how many of these I know - I'll cross out the ones I don't.

Tupac, Easy-E, Spice 1, UDI, Cold world hustlers, Krs-One, DJ Quik, Too $hort, MC Eiht, MC Ren, MC Breed, Eric B and Rakim ,EPMD, E-40, 213, Richie Rich, San Quinn and EA-Ski, Warren G, Nate Dogg, Rappin 4 tay, Seagram, Geto Boys,Mac Mall, Mac Dre, Scarface, Luniz, Sean T, King Tee, 415, AMG, 11/5, 2nd II None, Above The Law, B-Legit, Battlecat, Cella Dwellas, Chunk, Deco-D, Wu-tang Clan (GZA,RZA,ODB) Method man, Redmen, Nas, Ni9e, Psk-13, Psycho, Seff the Gaffla, The 49ers, Young Dre D, Craig Mack, Busta Rhymes (old stuff) AZ, The firm, A tribe called Quest, Naughty by Nature, 8Ball & MJG (old stuff) UGK, De la soul Bone thugs and LL Cool Jquote>

Huh. None of them.

Personally, I cannot stand most rap. Too much violence and swearing for my tastes. I will listen to almost anything else.

And does anyone else find rap musicians who live in mansions singing about life in the ghetto slightly... odd? Or is that just me?

Now all i hear is ring tone songs on the radio when will it stop so we can go back to real music that had purpose?quote>

So... just because a song sounds nice, it is automatially is not real and has no purpose? Or is popularity inversely proportional to meaning? I don't think either is true.

I can't even listen to the radio anymore and yet Soulja Boy has the audacity to call out Ice-T????quote>

I don't know either of them. I find I can listen to the radio quite well. I'm not quite sure how Soulja Boy calling out Ice-T is at odds with you not listening to the radio any more.

On the topic of music, here's a few rather nice songs that have meaning.

Enjoy!

5910 I used to like rap and hip hop (now I am into jazz and Reggaeton).

So I know the following:

Tupak Shakur (2pac), DJ Quik, Too $hort, Richie Rich, Warren G, Nate Dogg, Geto Boys, Mac Dre, Scarface, Wu-tang Clan, NaS, Busta Rhymes (had a comeback when he remixed and composed with pop singers), Naughty by Nature, UGK, Bone Thugs in Harmony, and of course LL Cool J (used to be all cool and sensuous now is all gangster and "swagger" his new image also came from remixing and composing and singing with new singers).

EDIT: There should be a Page Flip Bug (as astronelson said). Type in STARTPAGE=198 before you post.

Rap has had its moments, but it's mostly mediocre at best. And anything released after "Ridin'" (January 2006) sucks, with no exceptions. That was rap's swan song. Now the genre has moved into the category of "that damn noise that kids listen to these days".
