3812. In SimCity 2000, if you didn't turn off disasters, ordinances were randomly enacted "by the city council".

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

3815. Larks: Simcity 2000 was available on SNES. Simcity 2000 was rather popular, and is considered by many to be the best game in the franchise.

I think you fail to grasp the chronology.

SimCity 3000 came out in 1999, three years after the release of the N64. No games were still being made for the SNES by then.

One good reason to turn off disasters: I'm the mayor, and thus, I'm in charge of everything that happens in my cities.

I enjoyed all of the SimCity series. Each game more than the next.

If that were true, SimCity 4 would only be the second game. Which makes no sense.

Now, that could be passed off as simply not thinking about it. But what really gets me is that you never managed to hear of SimCity 2000 in some other way. Simply amazing that that could happen for someone who's played SC3K and is promintently on a fansite for SC4.

Also, you do realize you need to get your hands on that game and play it now, right? 2.gif

SimCity 2000 was originally a computer-based came (Mac, DOS, or Amiga). A few years later, a "special edition" designed for Windows 95 was released. This version of the game will still run on XP, Vista, or Windows 7, but only the 32-bit builds. 64-bit systems choke on the installer.

Though, apparently there was a rerelease more tailored to modern versions of Windows a few years ago.

There also were ports of the game to the SNES (not NES), Playstation, Sega Saturn,  N64 (in Japan), and, eventually, GBA.

The Playstation version is now on PSN (hint, hint).

3830. SimCity Creator (or DS2, depending on where you are) isn't really that good, frankly.

3834. Hmm, I never played SC2k before either. And since I doubt it is available in any store close, or will run on my laptop (think of the worst computer you've ever used, and multiple its 'badness' by 10, and you have my laptop during games), though it is a rather old game, so it might be able to run.

I think I was the most excited for the Urban Renewal Kit for SC3K. Those new building sets were awesome, particularly the Asian set.

Skimbo, please don't get Duke started, or we will soon end up with a very long post with all trivia about the previous SimCities. Though, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, execpt for load times of course.

The Urban Renewal Kit was for SC2K. It was basically the game's BAT, except you were editing sprites rather than making 3D models. It also gave you the ability to directly place buildings (edited or not) in cities, and then save them, giving it the added function of a plop cheat. The Windows 95 "Special Edition" rerelease came packaged with it, though it was available separately beforehand.

What you're thinking of is SimCity 3000 Unlimited (also called SimCity 3000 World Edition. Simcity 3000 UK Edition, and Simcity 3000 Deutschland). Sort of like SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, except the game was all still on one CD, and you couldn't purchase just the expansion part separately.

Unlike Rush Hour, there was no central theme to Unlimted. It involved multiple unrelated major and minor tweaks and additions. One of the more drastic was the ability to render your city using European or Asian style buildings instead of just the original North American tileset. Along the same lines, the game also came with an improved BAT (called BA+), and a more user-friendly method of putting custom buildings in the game.

Other noteworthy changes include:

- the addition of scenarios

- a new intro movie and menu screen

- a new built-in screenshot feature

- the ability to change the ground color and vegetation type

- the addition of five new music tracks and the removal of one old one ("SIM Broadway")

- several new landmarks

- new reward structures

- a removal of the limit of 10 landmarks per city

- a change in the way the building plop cheat worked

- new disasters (including the famous "plague of locusts")

3840. Skimbo: Look at what you've done: Now duke has made a post filled with completely useless facts (for day to day life), though they are still nice to know!

Duke: Nice list, I never knew one of those things, while I did have SC3K World Edition. I still have the box, but the disc(s) broke, and I had to throw them away, the game wouldn't start up any more. Same thing happened to my original SC4 discs, which I still have. However, for my 15th birthday I got SC4 Deluxe, which I've been using ever since. And apparently, even though SC4 was unusable for a couple of months, I didn't uninstall it, while I know that I un-installed some unused programs in the mean time.

3841. I never played 3000, I wish I had because it looked like a really cool game. I started out on 2000, and by the time I was ready to upgrade my computer there was talk about SC4, so I waited for that instead of buying 3000. Kind of a shame, 3000 would have been cool, but SC4 was way better than I had ever imagined.
