Remembering 9/11

Well today is 9/11/09. When we remember that terrorist attack from those 4 planes. This started 8 years ago, 2001. 2 planes hit the W.T.C, 1 plane into the pentagon, and one crash landed in PA since the passageners took over the plane. So let us remember those 3,000 lives dead in the terrorist attack(s).

3000 dead, it really brought america on its knees. and every one of those lost were somebody's son, daughter, father, or mother. or maybe brother, or sister too, they were families, killed so traumatically that some were stupid enough to jump from hundreds of feet in the air! I dont blame them, either, I would have done the exact same thing. this is truly a sad memory. but hey, at least we got people in the "houses of worship!" it still doesn't make up for the people lost, however.

Okay, so at what point do we stop looking back and start looking forward here? Construction of the new World Trade center is well underway. One tower is complete, another is rising above the street, and foundation work for the other three is in progress.

Worth noting: The '03, '04, and '05 threads were in off topic. By '06, the current events forum had been added and so the thread went there. Did so in '07 and '08, too. This year, it's back in off topic again, at least until a mod decides to move it.

Now that you mention it, this is more Current Event-ish. 

For what it's worth, respectful remembrance of those lost, while looking forward to honoring them in the future, is appropriate in my book.

A recent poll cited on the radio here found an overwhelming majority felt enough was being done to commemorate the lost, and that further memorializing on an official level, i.e. public events and statuary, was unnecessary. I believe the American people have moved on, but the media is convinced that the public's hunger is insatiable. The people have started to understand how such an event can be milked for political purposes.

It seems like the conspiracy theoy's have started to subside.

To date i've not heard any sound evidence that it was a "inside job" or anything of the like. Bad intellegence on behalf of the CIA? perhaps. but not a inside job.

This is good. People are starting to forget about Bush and Cheney and everything else that may have brought their thoughts to that. I personally thought that any government figure who would engineer something of that terrible magnitude against their own country is just unbelieveable in this day and age.

Of course, I do know about Hitler, Stalin, Milosevic, etc.

Its easy to believe that it would be a movie, its so hard to believe that it did actually occur. here in america, people would say on the phone: "Turn on the TV." thats it, all you had to say, cuz there wasn't a channel not covering it.

Guess you didn't hear that the actor Charlie Sheen has demanded a meeting with Obama to demand an investigation into the conspiracy theory that the Bush Admin was behind the 9/11 attacks.  I guess Mommy and Daddy never taught Charlie boy to say no to drugs.   You'd have to be on drugs to think the Gov't could pull something like that off and keep it a secret.

Oh my gosh... Those attacks were horrible. And the WTC was my fave pair of buildings. Anyways, maybe someone should make an SC4 memorial BAT as a memorial. Al Qaeda. What a dope.

It's not that I don't respect 9/11, or what it represents, its just that I think on a global forum, its a bit unnecessary to ask people from around the globe to stop and say " O yea, that was horrible what happened to you guys 8 years ago" when things just as horrible have happened to them, and we never stop and remember it. agreed, while I think it was horrible I guess it is time to move on, while it was 3,000 lives cut short, eventually everyone must move on, some wars haven't taken this long to forget i'm sure and they can lose millions of lives. As an american I think it is my duty to say move on America.

The twin towers were BATed ages ago.

There was also a later version of the whole plaza. Though, for whatever reason, it's uploaded rather piecemeal, split into a multitude of STEX entries.

This topic makes me sad... for me, it was the beginning of Muslim stereotyping in America, especially here in the south. Being Muslim, I feel a bit misrepresented when I hear people talk badly about us. However, over the years, I was able to educate some people, which I encourage all of you to go do. Remember, not all of us are bad, and with every religion, you have good guys and bad guys.

With every religion (and most other groups for that matter), there are good guys and bad guys.   Religious extremists -- maybe that should be "extremists who use religion as their excuse" -- make it difficult for everyone.  Both for people in the religion and for those not in it.

religious extremests. I dont blame islam, I blame radical islam. it seems there really is no religion safe from "The radical concept." not even my religion of christianity seems totally safe from misunderstanding.

although I dont agree with islam, I will say this: its not the majority of the Muslims at fault for 9/11, its the radical Muslims that are to blame.

I really hate how these idiots are tagging themselves as "Muslims". Seriously, I've read the Qu'ran, there's nothing in there about killing people. What did America do to us? Nothing. A sudden, unexpected, massive, and dramatic attack on one's country tends to do that.

As for knowing someone who knows someone... my mother's friend's husband worked way up at the top of tower 1. He died. Okay, that's three degrees of separation, not two, but still.

And I do know a couple people who worked there that are still alive. A lot of people around here can say that much.

My uncle (NYPD) was not there at the time of the attack but did some extended hours of duty there during the rescue effort period afterwards and carries a merit on his uniform for it.

I personally was in no way involved although I can claim to have witnessed some of the aftermath personally and I can also claim to have been inside the construction site where it's not open to the public.

Although the tragedy didn't affect my immediate family, I still have friends who had parents who worked there and stuff. All of them survived thankfully. My friend's mom actually worked on the 104th floor of the South Tower. She saw the North Tower get hit by the plane from her window. Once she saw this happen, she immediately packed up her things and headed to the lobby. Her boss and co-workers tried to stop her but something told her to leave. In the South Tower right after the first impact, many workers were told to stay in their offices because it was not their tower effected. On her descent to the lobby (many people were leaving, she was on the 38th floor), the second plane hit her tower. She got out of the tower right before it collapsed (hers collapsed first). Everyone from her company was killed, including her boss and coworkers who told her to stay put. Living in New York, I have come across a lot of people who had wives, husbands, children, and grandchildren killed on 9/11. It hits home even if you secondarily experience it.

People ask why did Al Queda do this ? Well i read a long time ago, about 3 years ago, a book about Osama Bin Laden's life, or something like that. Well he grew up rich, and he and his brothers had many fancy things and stuff you know. He was also well educated. Well, after a while he grew tired of the lavish lifestyle he lived. He saw his wealth as something that was evil. Feeling that he and his family had been corrupted by the wealth, he changed. He felt that many muslims were being corrupted by the western lifestyle. Nice clothes, cars, matieral wealth, he did not like it.

Of course, he became more radical about his ideas, becoming more extreme towards how he felt towards the americans and such. It appears it is some religous beliefs that drives him, he already had money and power, so what would the reason be ? With his terrorist buddies he was able to do some damage in the U.S. and around the world. Perhaps he felt threatened, who knows,

but in the end, it will never make any sense.

In april i was in new york and I visited that museum next to ground zero. Looking at the warped window frame from one of the planes, then looking back out at ground zero...it was one of the strangest feelings ever....that little peice of metal changed the world forever.....

thats why I call them radical muslims. they are full of pride, anger, violence, and, if they wanted more people to become muslims, why would they kill everyone who wasn't a muslim before they even had a chance to "Convert."

to me, they are nothing more than false prophets.  I have forgiven them the wrong they did, though they deserved none whatsoever, and we all need to do the same.(I know, for some of you, this seems impossible.) but the violent terrorists actually would have opposed us showing them kindness for their actions. "Return evil with good and you will put burning coals on their heads." so it is actually showing that we object their actions to do this, because all they want is to cause as much trouble as possible, and to not let it get to us(in terms of bitterness.), is to be opposed to it. its more serious of a punishment for them to see that we are returning evil with good than to show bitterness about it.(to show bitterness is actually a reward to people who are this evil.)

   And, come to think of it, we all deserve hell(to one degree or another.), any of us who dont go there are only going to the alternative because of grace!
