So im at year 540ish and I have a population of 1,240,000 +/- 10,000 sims.  i hit this # quite a while ago and no matter how much more i build it will not continue to grow. All demands are met, schools, health, pollution, export resources, everything.

i remember seeing someone else having a similar problem on this form but didn't pay much attention at the time as it was not a problem, and now im not able to locate it now as its berried in thousands of threads.

does anyone know of this as a game limit of am i missing something?

Thanks

try developing a city far away in the region but that you can "trade" with. It will probably spur development in your main city. when you are ready you can slowly replace the far away city with next door "expansion" cities and eventually delete the far away city altogether if you don't like it.

I experienced the same problems, at certain population size the city would just stop growing. My solution was to plop out some high rise commercial or industrial buildings that employes high number of people. The population jumped after that and would grow tremendously. After you see positive growth you can buldoze the plopped buildings and still maintain the effect. But this is assuming you have positive demand for R, CO or I, otherwise I don't think it'll work. Btw, I'm using RH, CAM and NAM for this method.

RH: Rush Hour, NAM: Network Addon Modification, CAM: Collosus Addon If you're using CAM, I've read it somewhere that you shouldn't use plopped building, go instead with CAM-patible buildings. But I plopped buildings, let it run for 1-2 years and CAM is still working fine. If all else fail, use cheat like radical ordinance? I use it to boost my city after 2 million, because somehow my health & education always getting overcrowded after that, no matter how large/how many civic facilities I build into the city. Another possible solution: expand your city, zone new residential, co or industrial area. It works as a booster as well

A city reaches it "natural SC4" game residential population limit around 2-2.5 mil... This is because you run out of game CAP reliefs. Do you have all of 1. Major League statium, 2. Minor league stadium 3. Tourist trap 4. Farmers market 5. Zoo The total of these together is to raise the Caps nearly 1.5 million The only other way I know to get a higher population is to mod for it..and of course if you're gonna mod for it, what's the point? 2.gif

Yeah no limit - I suggest trade with other cities.

What I personally do is have one huge tile dedicated to it (that has some water) and I build my residential and commercial population there.

Soon you run out of room to build and desire for the residents goes down: I create another large tile someplace next to the first tile that has no water and build a LARGE industrial area. This continues with jobs bringing up the demand substantially and preventing the industrial pollution from travelling to the residential areas (pollution does not cross tiles).

So yeah - Most of the time the Demand gets higher with the population, and the number "20,000" or "40,000" is an understatement when it comes to 1.2 million residents: Because at a population of 0 and having a demand of 20,000 is over 10,000% more than the population. But when you have a population of 40,000 and demand is 20,000. Your demand is actually at 50%. As the number of the population grows - usually the number of demand decreases and can even exceed the given demand amount in the UI. So you won't be able to see what the actual demand is compared to your population. all you know is that your demand is at or over 20,000.

There's a mod someplace where it allows you to view a higher demand number (100,000 i think). Rathar than 20,000.

It's your demand. The Demand Graph is not based on %: at that population a 4,500 occupant commercial office is barely a dent in your economy.

We, stardust, are the oddest observers of self (a.k.a. the universe).

I'm just a group of atoms typing this.

    What do I know?

If I understand CAP (and its certainly possible I don't fully) it is totally independent of DEMAND.. if your CAP is reached, even if demand is 100000, your displayed graphs for R, C or I (whatever is at CAP) goes to ZERO.. for example we all see this happen for farms.. same can happen to any of R C or I under the right circumstances.

    1) First, build more neighboring cities.

    2) Set taxes on R $$$ to 20% in those cities.

    3) Try to build whatever is in high demand in your main city in those cities (including dirty industry)

    4) Return to your main city and lower taxes on everyone.

    5) Bulldoze all instances of McCormick Building (the small fat red 4x4 apartment). It doesn't house many people and can't be upgraded.

    6) Bulldoze all of the smaller R $$$ buildings. Use a mod or look at a building listing website to check their stages. If the building is R $$$ and isn't stage 7 or 8 (basically a skyscraper) then bulldoze it!

Assuming you have high desirability, this will cause a bunch of R $$$ skyscrapers to develop in your main city. Once demand for R $$$ plunges, many of these buildings will dilapidate and start housing ridiculous numbers of R $$ and R $ residents and your population will skyrocket.
