Do one-way residential streets make cities realistic?

I was wondering I noticed alot of CJers here refuse to make the side streets in their residential areas one-way because they look ugly but residental streets in older residential neighborhoods are one-way because they need to control the flow.

If you go to cities like Chicago, Detroit and NYC, you will expect to see a boatload of one-way side streets and most newer residential areas have streets that are two-way.

I guess my point for those making CJs who little to no one-way residential streets strive for realism, is that unrealistic?

You probably can't notice them, seeing as the NAM has the option to hide the arrows...

Well...It depends, are you talking about Midtowns and Downtowns, or Suburban areas? I see One-ways in residential downtowns, but never in the suburbs

Would be nice if we had true one-way "streets" ... that's what you're talking about I think, but currently in SC4 we only have one-way *roads*. Same speed as regular roads, and almost the same look except for the lines (and arrows if NAM isn't hiding them), but double-capacity (because it's all in one direction), and as-such yes, they look "wrong" for a cozy neighborhood.

Suburban areas, absolutely not. Urban environments, maybe, as long as they aren't far out from the CBD.

The residential one-way streets in Chicago etc. are usually more narrow than in the game. Plus my traffic never warrants one-way streets, which bugs me a little.

I would prefer to use Jeronij's Streetside mod and Andreas' Street tree mod with regular streets. It looks more realistic
