Try to merge it in a new file. Otherwise I'm afraid it's lost...

i'm afraid it is gone paulvmontfort, did you have a backup somewhere?

i have learned from this mistake many times. whenever you make a render or export a bat, make sure you are using a backup file, and not the original one.

sorry about this, it had a lot of potential 15.gif

I still think you should concentrate more on the VM Tower, as it is more epic and architecturally superior than the smaller twin towers.

Perhaps the NDEX or BSC BAT members will offer some support for the minimal task at nightlighting. I believe that no one has offered to help simply because they don't know about this spectacular skyscraper. 'Dusktrooper', from NDEX, might lend you a hand for nightlighting since skyscrapers is his niche.

I am afraid that file is gone unless you can salvage the BACKUP.

    1. Never save a file directly after a RENDER.
    2. Always save incremental versions of the file by selecting SAVE AS and then click on the + sign on the right.
    3. Always SAVE before a Preview.
    4. Reload the SAVE and then do the preview.
    5. Never SAVE when gMAX prompts you to save ... hit CANCEL an dthen do a SAVE if you think it is needed.

I am intrigued that someone calls the nite lighting a trivial task.

A good beginning of the Lippo.  To your support here a rare air shot (1991).

DT's the best at lighting big towers. If he's not willing to help you, then I'd suggest what the rest of us do, start with something smaller and learn the basics. Lighting is as much an art as a science. It's a lot of trial and error and there are a ton of parameters you can tweak. Start with a small building, say just a few floors and play with different settings. With a small building you can do a preview render and check your results almost realtime. With a large buildign, this is not possible due to the render time. Also, have a look as the tutorials here in ST. There are some good one's in the Omnibus.

Yeah, I am sorry NDEX won't help you with the nightlighting on the VM Tower. I've seen them help others in the past, but now, the superciliousness of their BAT organization has become arrogant. In fact, your VM Tower is way better than any of their BATS.

However, I guess it's a good time to fiddle around with the nightlighting on a small tower, following the tutorials as was previously said. It would be good to know the skill for future releases anyways.

Try the first image. Besides you can always get away with some minor cosmetic editing...
