You know the actual value of manufacturing in developed countries is actually greater than that of developing countries like China. It just makes up a smaller percentage of GDP but nevertheless, our GDP is so high that our manufacturing beats the developing world's manufacturing sector. Also, manufacturing in wealthy countries is a lot more capital-intensive so you get more productivity from less employees, therefore more income per employee.

Speaking of jobs, I was looking at a jobguide the other day. That's a guide given to year 10 students which has basic details of every job on earth. Anyway, I noticed about 2/3rds of jobs had "good or better than average" job prospects. But for all of these jobs you need a few years of training and education. The problem isn't that there isn't enough jobs, its that people are too lazy to get any tertiary training. Serioiusly, people want to just finish school and get given a job...

2/3rds of the different types of jobs, perhaps, but what fraction of the total number of jobs by the amount of people working them? i think you'd find that there's a lot more people that do, say, roadworking than there are optometrists.

employers won't take you on because your "and idle, soft, fat, lazy lump living off benefits" and most of the jobs posted don't ACTUALLY exist. they exist on paper but don't in reality. most employers want 35 year old people who have experience and if you don't have "experience" they will never hire you

the only way around this is if you go to university and even someone living in bubble world like belfastuniguy will know that universities are flooded with people who have just been made redundant

they either require 5 PhDs, 20 years experience or pay too low for them to advertise properly (it just says in caps MEETS NAT. MINIMUM WAGE)

if they posted how many people were actually looking for employees then people like you would realise how few jobs there actually are.

do you find people saying "oh yes the office has about 5 vacancies and just can't fill them, i'm having to do five jobs and get paid only one salary"?

but then again you live in the "United Kingdom of Greater London and that bit north of it"

I like my bubble thank you very much. I'm secure, happy and incredibly solvent, thus couldn't care less what others think...to be honest. I enjoy my life, depressed people and those that moan I have no time for.

No, I didn't work during school as that was frowned upon and my parents were happy to support me until I started university, then I decided I wanted to work. I came out of school, into university and into a job as well, rather nice job it was at the time as well, was part-time but was making serious money...commission see.

You might need multiple PHD's if you want to get into, i dunno, a space agency, but most thigns you can really just get by with a degree. Though maybe it depends from university to university, as some are regarded higher than others..

As for " idle, soft, fat, lazy lump living off benefits", i'm not to sure about that. I got hired (admittedly, last year) from a internet resume submission, no interview or anything like that. There's a lot of places out there who are just lookign for bodies, and don't care to much about qualifications: you just need to be prepared to work when it doesn't suit you (in my case, nightshift. How i loathe nightshift. But it gives me money)

Im guessing that's because if someone who was in a higher position was no longer able to work, they can quickly be replaced but thats just my guess...

Anyway, most people actually don't have degrees, so that indicates that there are many people without degrees who have jobs. Also, overall there is a skills shortage in most countries.

A lot of the time where degrees are wanted, yet the degrees are not specifically related to the job is because of the skills people pick up doing their degrees (time management, getting work done, etc.), and the thought processes that they develop, which make them suitable for the job. for example there was some finance firm here trying to recruit engineers because they all have good mathamatics and computer skills.
