You can find the mod on teirusu's site
For the staigt lines i use the super egalising tool (don't realy know how it is called in english)
You can change the radius of what the tool effects by pressing ctrl+shift+[a number from 1 to 9 (0 is the biggest) ]
I hope this helps. I have some screenshots on how to make a dam but i wil have to post them later, because i'm going to a lanparty!!!

A little time ago i made a short tutorial on how to  make a dam.
I don't know if you are still interested in this but i already have the pictures so i will poste them anyway.

TUTORIAL ON HOW TO MAKE A DAM:

    1. Ofcource you first need a river flowing trough the mountains.
    /idealbb/files/Dt00.jpg
I think most of you already have a river in one of your regions. But for this tutorial i made a simple city whit a river and mountains.

    2. Step two is to build the dam itself
    /idealbb/files/Dt01.jpg
You can make the dam in any shape and as complicated as you like but de remember that it has to be even high everywhere or the water will go over it. You can use every terraforming tool you like , just try out some and see which tool makes the dam.

    3. If you now try to fill the lake it will be very difficult.
And there is big chance that you will end up with this:
    /idealbb/files/Dt02.jpg
Don't worry. If you go to region view and then back the water will be gone again
I order to avoid this you have to create some sort of platform wich defines how high the water in the lake will be.

You can see the one i build on the next picture
    /idealbb/files/Dt03.jpg
I made the platform just a litle lower than the dam. This way the water cant get over but still fils the entire lake.

    4. Now a trickey part. Make the rain tool a little bit smaller and use it on the edges on the platform. Just go with is along the entire edge. If it comes  a good point the lake will fill very quickly. If you made tha platform not to high you will see that a nice lake has formed behind the dam.
    /idealbb/files/Dt04.jpg
You can use the platform to fill the lake everytime you reload the city

In undergound mode you can see that a large part of the mountains is now flooded
    /idealbb/files/Dt05.jpg
Look at the waves in the lake that are on the original water level. You can see a large diffirence in water level.

The lake is ofcource also vissible in the data view
    /idealbb/files/Dt06.jpg
Note the platform that is now just above the water level.

    5. Now you can finish the dam. Build builings\roads\power lines etc.
You can also build textures on the dam but the side of the dam is probably to steep to build anything on them.

I did this to with my dam
    /idealbb/files/Dt07-2.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Dt08.jpg

I hope this has helped you in creating a dam of your own

    ---

If you still have questions you can ocource post them

JoshuaC. If you want the dam to be square. You must first go to the god mode tools. (because they are free and easy to use.) Then hold Ctrl+Shift and a number from 1 to 9,0. this will allow you to set the size of the tool. The area that a tool effects is not round as it may look like but is per tile if yo make the tool small enough you can make thin square dams. Try it. After some practice you will get the hang of it.

I did see one city on the web that imitated a dike by just raising a 1-wide wall around the city. It was a beautiful city, and I can't remember where on Earth I saw it at - had a nice golf course provided by joerg's pack too. Oh well. Lost in the sea of sim info.

I've only been using the rain tool to easily make land bridges. I'm gonna try this though!

This is a city I made on a dam from the great advice on this thread.

It is called Damville (Not exactly original - I couldn't thinks of anything else to suit) and the suburbia is out of the picture on the left, commerce on the left side of the dam and manufacturing industry for jobs on the right side of the dam.

Thanks for finally letting me create a dam city.

We're all going to have a tough time seeing that picture on your hard drive. Try uploading it somewhere and linking it that way, or attaching it.

You'll find in a post by Teirusu on 11/01/2003 as an attachment (it is not on the 2nd page).  The thread was started by Teirusu and is I made it rain or something like that.  Search for rain then his posts I think its on page 3 but look for the attachment.

That dam you made looks really good.  To bad though that there wasnt a BAT made so that u can make a dam yourself.  Sort of like the Airport pack, where you get to make a custom airport.

Here is a dam I made using some rock wall lots to make the surface.
The water hasn't filled up the area behind the dam yet, but it is higher than the regular water.
