Custom content for airports

Does anyone have any suggestions of must have files to build custom airports?  Ive searched around the stex a bit, but I'm not really sure where to start.  I wanted to look for some suggestions before I flood my pugins folder/airport menu.

To recap, I'm looking for custom content that will allow me to build functional airports (i.e. they give cap releif and satisfy demand).  Any relevant guides would be ising on the cake.

Custom airports cannot work as functional in-game airports. They are only for eye-candy purposes, or at least the plugins below are only eye-candy.

The first thing you have to download is ACB VLT Terminals and Jets Series (2 parts). There are other packs, but they have been superceded by this one. This provides all terminal buildings, all airport facilities and some planes with real life liveries. There's another pack named ACB VLT Series 2 that provides more airplanes.

Runways, taxiways, aprons and this kind of things don't come with this pack, so you should download all packs which name begins with RMIP-2 in order to make your airports as realistic as possible. Only RMIP-2 SAE Vol 2 is listed as a dependancy (remember to download all of them), but I would recommend downloading all the RMIP-2 packs, because they will give you much more variety and flexibility for your runways.

Once you have installed all this, take your time to try all the features, I was overwhelmed the first time and my first airports looked horrible, but with practice and some hours plopping terminals and runways, you will be able to build good custom airports like this:

Are all Airport downloads for SC4 eyecandy? Are the only possible functional airports, the ones that come with the game?

I suppose at least its still possible to ADD different plane and taxi skins to create some diversity.

There have been functional airports created for the game, but they were very problematic to use. However, good news... You might check this set out. It was created and is available at SC4Devotion (on the LEX). It contains all the airports that have been created, and they are functional and upgradeable. They are not, however, customizeable as the type mentioned by TekindusT above.

Edit: Thought I would mention this since it's related. There's a set of Functional Seaports that operate similarly to the ariports.

Just to avoid confusion, in the do it yourself airports the aircraft take off and land, but it has no effect on your city except allowing more growth in your city centres.

That's all any airport does. The whole point of airports is to bring in offices.

Thanks for the replies all... Do those of you who build eye-candy airports build functional airports as well? Or can you get away with no cap relief from airports? I guess if your region is populous enough it isn't an issue?

I guess Ferries can transfer people.  What would it take to make Airplanes transfer people, to other airports, especially to other cities in the region?   We have some pretty savvy designers here, i bet there could be a way.  Maybe one of those unused networks?
