What about if some one made a new type of road that has a big median and you could upgrade to an avenue

with out takeing up space

of course it would be 2 tiles wide but it would solve the upgrading problem

like this

The architecture/planning forum is about those topics in real life, so I've moved this to the modding - transit networks forum, because this is about modding a new transit network.

What's the difference between what you're proposing and the existing avenue?

The existing avenue has four lanes; he's proposing a road that has two lanes, but with a big wide median, so that it's two tiles wide. Personally, though, I don't recall seeing such a road (with only one lane on each side of the median) in RL.

I've seen these in areas where I grew up (had my first car accident on one  15.gif  ). They were usually in scenic parts of small towns and were often called boulevards (not the same as boulevards where I currently live  2.gif  ). They seemed to have been built in older residential areas with a wide median (usually with trees and other plants) separating two single lanes that had parking. Don't know how much use they be for the game...

I've seen these in several cities. Another idea would be to design a 2-lane road with shoulders (or grassy space before the sidewalks, etc.) that could be upgraded to an avenue w/o bulldozing developed areas. IMHO, the roads of Simcity are way too narrow in comparison to the buildings.
