It's great to see that there's a coming out thread here! And it's great to see that everyone has been so supportive - to me homophobia (and all other forms of intolerance) are the worst kind of stupidity 26.gif.

I'm proud to say that I'm from Canada, where gay marriage is now legal. I've been pointing this out to all my American friends!9.gif44.gif9.gif44.gif9.gif

I'm not so proud to say that I'm living in California,
~reworded by a moderator: where they are trying to pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriages~

I must say that I agree with Kryten. California is supposedly such a proactive and progressive place, yet they're doing things that are so stereotypically... Nevermind.

Anyway, I suppose that the California thing doesn't really shock me nor concern me. I live out in Hawai'i; gay marriage is already expressly forbidden here... I just don't understand. Well, maybe people will get over all of their reservations about gay marriage years from now. We can only hope, I guess.

Yo People,

Very happy to announce that Lentbury is, at least to my knowledge, the first country on Simtropolis to have opened marriage for same-sex couples.

Probably not best to ask the admins to be involved in such a controversial topic. 1.gif

Can somebody please explain to me what gay pride is?

Is it being able to be openly gay in public,
    Affectionate in public?

I don't know tbh, a little confuzzled, and want to know something for once.

I can't help wondering why it always hits as a surprise when someone is outing him or herself!  Yet, this place, just as many others, have lots of people with another sexual orientation than the hetero one!  Just imagine how many of ST's members are visiting this topic, yet keeping their little secrets to themselves! 2.gif

ATP: Gay Pride is all about not being ashamed to be gay in public or anywhere else. It is about accepting who you are and not being changed by society.

I think it's a good thing NOT to trust all these statistics we're fed with all the time.  They are, after all, statistics, and statistics have been proven wrong many times before! 48.gif  Who knows, it could be less then 11%, just as it could easily be more!

Dan Ryan: No, that wasn't really what I was getting at. What I meant was that perhaps since the admins have to deal with everyone on this website (and I do mean everyone) simultaneously, perhaps it would be best to leave sexual orientation undisclosed; it simply makes it easier for everyone to get along with admins, and vice-versa.

ExiL3: Actually, I believe that the numbers have been re-examined and reworked. Currently in human population, it is believed that approximately 4% of the world population is homosexual. Also on the same note, animal populations have been studied as well. I'm not sure of most of the percentages, but I do know that it's supposed that 8% of the world's sheep population is homosexual.

Hmmm... Are you trolling, simply haven't read the entire thread, or reaaalllllyyy wanting to know about the admins?  23.gif   Regardless, Jmusshorn is right.  B/c of predjudice of all sorts, it is easier to maintain authority when members aren't letting preconceptions based on the little that they do know block out what is being said.

I think this is the first gaming forum where I have seen a thread about sexuality that isn't a bashing thread or flame war.  I guess I should admit it, I'm gay too.  I live with my boyfreind.

Wow, I just read through the Wikipedia article regarding sexuality, and I found out something that had never really crossed my mind before: Homosexuality was listed as a mental illness by the American Psychological Association all the way up until 1973.

Not that this is shocking, it just never really occured to me that people once regarded gay people as mentally unstable. 47.gif Looking at the way some people look at me nowadays though, I positively kick myself for not realizing that earlier.

I had one person tell me Don't worry, Satan will loosen his grip on your weak little mind soon enough, and then you can go back to liking girls and be saved from going to hell when you die of HIV! You think I'm kidding? That's verbatim. It's shocking, yet in retrospect it makes me laugh a little. Not sure why. 21.gif

S.A.C and Jamie: Yeah, I agree statistics are just statistics, but they can be informative, and give you a small understanding.
8% of the sheep are gay, lol well thats kinda funny. They are cute though, 18.gif

iam, but i dont get bothered by it at all and i would support most things like gay rights etc... im definately not homophobic so please dont get the idea all religious people are staunch homophobic fundamentalists who think homosexuality is a mental illness 28.gif because were not, its only a very vocal minority giving a bad name for everyone else 27.gif

Actually many members are; some probably also disapprove of homosexuality.  But they also aren't falling into stereotypes many people hold about religion.

It's been my insight lately that people who either don't take their religion (any religion) seriously, or don't commit to it wholeheartedly through and through, or pick and choose what's convenient for them often come across as more fanatical & zealous (& therefore goofy) than those that really are devout; which really presents a horrible image to the public at large and making it difficult for believers/ practitioners.  I would also suspect that religion is not the only institution where that is true.

Oh no, I definitely wasn't incinuating that all religious folks are homophobic fundamentalists. Some are, but many aren't. I do indeed understand that there is an extremely vocal minority of these kinds of people.

Problem is, most of these types of people manage to be the ones who run our lives.
