Farrah Fawcett has died at 62 from cancer. Famous as a '70s pinup and star of Charlie's Angels, she was a merchandising bonanza.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

She was one of my very early teen crushes, like many others growing up in the era. One of the most beautiful women...heck, in history.

It really was a shame to see her going through so many health problems recently. She really did seem like a very kind person.

May she rest in peace.

As you have said before, MrC, another part of my childhood has died. And she died too young and too painfully.

Does anyone know if they let their son out of jail so he could say goodbye? He went on another binge when she took a turn for the worst. Last I heard, they were asking for him to be released for a few hours so he could see her. I didn't hear the results of that.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

She died at a young age by today's standards and of a horrible illness. 15.gif

RIP to one of the most beautiful women ever. Such a shame that she had to pass on due to such a terrible sickness 15.gif

At my age, I'm probably the youngest here who can still remember Farrah in her heyday. Perhaps not the most talented person in Hollywood, but she had class, looks, and versatility. A great combination.

I haven't seen any of her movies, but someday I'll have to. Rest in peace, Farrah.

It's very sad, but who knows, probably it was a relief. If you battle cancer for so long, it might be a good thing to finally leave 15.gif RIP!

So sad. The poster that turned a generation into men. The highest selling poster ever. 12 million. More than Monroe/Grable combined x2. One of the most beautiful women that has set foot on Earth and she wasn't airbrushed like today's models.

She was very brave in her fight and we'll always remember her as a Charlie's Angel, the quintessential sex symbol of the 70's, the commercials with Namath etc. and a woman who wanted to be known as more than a beauty queen.

Terrible her death was overshadowed by Michael Jackson.

In fairness....he was the bigger star.

Truly awful way to die and an icon of her generation. Though she battled hard and all credit due to her, its not an easy thing to fight against. Its been a very sad week and indeed a sad year, with many legends now gone 15.gif

Before Thriller came out, she was way bigger than The Jackson 5 or MJ.  She was everywhere.  And The Poster that turned a generation from boys to men.

Amazing she was only on for one season.

I also did not remember her in Logans Run.

It's fitting that Farrah died with dignity . . . even if she wasn't a "big" star.

What did being a "big" star get MJ . . . a media circus, rumors, innuendo . . . but still the same size box in the same cool dirt.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but I've seen too many music "stars" burn out along the way . . . they're just not worth getting excited about.

Haha, bud you had to have lived in the 70's to realize just how big she was.  She was the girl everyone wanted to be, and the girl every guy had up on their wall (unprecedented 12 million sold posters).  The 70's was her decade whehter it was commercials, The Poster, dolls, Charlie's Angels or just being absolutely stunning.  Like I said, until Thriller came out in 1982, Farrah was definitely more famous than Michael Jackson even with his work in the Jackson 5.  There are no more singular women who take over society like Monroe, Fawcett, Grable...I guess the closest would be Pam Anderson back in the 90's but she doesn't compare to the popularity the above had.  When Fawcett died, an era ended.

19.gif Yes, I must confess . . . a child of the 60's and 70's.    Still have the poster rolled up and stored in the basement.   It hung on the back of my bedroom door.    My wife just rolled her eyes when she found out it still existed.   I have to agree . . . an era died.

For Michael, Thriller was the peak for me; it was really original for its time.  Being an "old" movie buff, using Vincent Price for the voiceover work made it fun.

Excellent picture, EB. Did you compile it?

I have to agree with Sticksboi05 and leon about the popularity of Farrah Fawcett. I was trying to explain it to my nephew and tried "She was the Jessica Alba of her time". He dismissed that as unlikely but conceded she might have been the Jessica Biel of her time.

No i did not. got if from  a local radio show website.

No one will remeber Jessica Alba or Biel 40 years from now. More people will remember  Jessica Rabbit ( to continue the Jessica theme)  then those 2 1.gif

Jessica Biel? She's way above her. I could watch her on Charlie's Angels for so long, that face is just so beautiful. And I take that back, not Pamela, the closest this generation had was Cindy Crawford. Like I said, it's just so hard to think of someone since who took over a decade like she did. And this fall, her poster will be on my college wall.

I guess I'm just weird, I never found Farrah to be 'all that'. She struck me as generic, and I always associate her with the vaseline-on-the-lens style of photography; that blurry glow so popular in '70s shots. There were more attractive women, even in her day.

Pamela is just gross, a sideshow freak at best.

But like I said, I'm just weird.
