Featured games return today as Devonshire faced off against New Berlin at the MonoCorp SuperArena.

^^^Thanks. I think an electrical storm fried my DSL modem, so I had to wait for the wheels of my phone company to get into motion to confirm the problem and replace the unit.

I had a feeling today wasn't our day,but man it seems like every under rated team that played today won.I think thats pretty cool and it keeps things very competitive.Come on what type of league would it be if only the good teams won?Maybe like the American East for Baseball....but never mind that.I'm still happy we got in the game and fought till the end.Its better to lose and play in a close match then to win by some lucky fluke.Your team provided itself worthy.I can't wait for the next time around menterman.

    Yay, the pictures are back!

Drat, there was another loss, at least it was an OT loss.

5 weeks for a bruised arm?

    Day 28

    Today's featured game:

Trimblelina City hosts Cortezlynn City at Federal Arena in Hibbing in this week's featured game.

The Trimblelina City area had a population of about 1.3 million in the last census, with about 425,000 in Trimblelina City itself.

The climate is temperate, though the rest of the nation is more subtropical. Fans are just as excited about the arrival of this team as they are about the incoming soccer team. Residents also hope a international baseball league could be started in the near future.

Well, on to the game, which started without much excitement as the teams spent most of the first period feeling each other out.

The 86'ers started the second period with a power play, but it was the Victory who ran the show. Cortezlynn City just couldn't put together their offense and left a wide-open hole that allowed Trimblelina City to score a short-handed goal as Mironov picked up his own rebound and put it in net.

    firstgoal2id.gif
^^^Low shots aren't as likely to hit paydirt, but often result in a rebound and a second opportunity, exploited here by the Victory.

That embarrassment shattered the 86'ers' morale, and just a few minutes later, Trimblelina was able to score again.

    secondgoal8qb.gif
^^^Oates draws the defense and the goalie to the left, then pitches to Redden for a quick goal.

Cortezlynn City was able to recover enough to answer that goal about three minutes later, as Houlder caught a pass from Wilson and drilled it home.

    corgoal1yr.gif
^^^Cortezlynn City tries to show they aren't dead yet.

The rest of the second period was uneventful and scoreless.

The third period found Trimblelina City with a power play and it took just over a minute for the Victory to score in a messy struggle in front of the net.

    tricor013vn.jpg
^^^Shanahan works to slip the puck into goal.

At 7:40, Martin St. Louis was able to streak up the ice and put one in on a breakaway.

    tricor025bo.jpg
    ^^^Trimblelina City builds their lead.

The game continued as an intense, physical struggle, but Trimblelina was clearly dominant.

    tricor037kr.jpg
^^^Schneider delivers a brutal check into the boards. Play resumed once the panel of protective glass was put back into place.

All hope was gone for Cortezlynn City after the Victory put some gravy on their lead with another power play goal at 14:47.

    tricor053by.jpg
^^^Shanahan fires and finds the back of the net.

In the end, the Victory lived up to their name, running roughshod over the hapless 86'ers in this game and carving out the top spot in the league while they were at it.

I'd have to say that was quite a dominating performance!  I'm guessing that beating June Isle was not sheer luck, then.  They caught us while we were on fire(which we still are)!  I'm happy, but there are still 19 games to go.

' Sticks and checks may break my bones, but wins can never hurt me! '

Quite a few teams tied for 2nd overall in the league, w/ 14 points, eh?  1.gif

Hello fellow Simtropolians, I am back!

I am very sorry about my team losing today! Well, thing thing is that our South Street Nuclear Power Plant in downtown exploded today. Out of the nearly 2 million people who lived in the whole region, only 15 thousand renain (the total population of 4 neighborhoods).

Cortezlynn was forced to evacuate and transplat to a new region, but there were many who couldn't make it. Millions were unable to make it because they were poisoned by radiation sickness.

Cortelynn planned for this. In 1998, two years before Cortezlynn was a incorporated as a city, the founding farthers, with the help of Nuclear Technicians and other scientists, realized that even with all the knowledge of nuclear fission, that an acident that can't be stopped or corrected can happen-an explosion, or a leak (OR A CHINA SYNDROME!!!)

So the founding founders created the PRESERVING THE CULTUR OF CORTEZLYNN act, all the residents decided that in a nuclear explosion, only the talented people and the people who made the city a better place to live would escape the radiation poisioning and transplant to a new area.

Long story short- there is a new Cortezlynn City. Expect creeks, rivers, and streams, and parks, but Cortezlynn will still have the Washington, DC feel (streets and landmarks, wmata metro subway system, etc. You will soon that the new Cortezlynn will be a very pleasant part 2.

For the hockey team...no worries: the hockey team survived (sp?) and the arena is still the Sierra Simms Arena, so the season can go on as smoothly as possible.

Don't worry, I'm fine, and look forward to a great part 2.

    Mr. Cortez

    Day 29

Please note that all of today's games featured a moment of silence in memory of those who died in the Cortezlynn City nuclear plant disaster. As a further note, please be aware that all Cortezlynn City players will be tested for mutations in case the disaster turns out to be an attempt by team management to give their players comic-book-superhero powers, leading to an unfair advantage on the ice.

    Today's featured game:

Today we visit Saturna, home of the Devils and a battle against the Cristobal Bears at Rockefeller Rink.

This was a rough-and-tumble game from the start, and each team ended up racking up more than 20 penalty minutes. Many of those came in the first period in overlapping power plays.

Saturna found themselves on the power play almost immediately. They were unable to score before being whistled for a penalty themselves, and the teams faced each other 4 on 4. Amazingly, Saturna committed another penalty and now the Bears found themselves skating 4 against 3, then 5 on 3 once their original penalty expired. The Saturna worked hard but couldn't prevent a goal against those kinds of odds.

    crisat015be.jpg
^^^A Cristobal check knocks a Devils defenseman off the puck and opens up a scoring opportunity.

Later in the first period, the teams again whittled themselves down to 4-on-4 hockey, but neither was able to score before intermission.

    crisat027xi.jpg
^^^Saturna tries to regain some momentum the old fashioned way.

Saturna returned determined to shake off Cristobal's first-period goal and cleaned up their hockey some. The teams battled for dominance, but Cristobal struck again at 12:33.

    crigoal20ca.gif
^^^Barnes fires a rocket at the goal. Another Cristobal player was prepared for the rebound but Barnes' shot found its way into the net.

This was bad news for the Devils. The first goal could be attributed to the lopsided squads after penalties, but here the underdog Bears had them down 2-0. Saturna fought back valiantly but had to settle for closing out the period without allowing another goal (and with winning another round of fisticuffs.)

    crisat045hx.jpg
    ^^^More frustration vented.

The third period was more of the same, with Cristobal trying to protect their lead and Saturna vainly trying to gain some traction against the Bears defense. Fans around the crowded Rockefeller Rink were shocked when the Bears put another goal in at 9:47 into the third. The Devils kept their chins up, but it was just too late to mount any sort of rally. Saturna management must surely be regretting requesting this as a featured game after watching the squad fall to the Bears.

June Isle gets the expected win, though perhaps not by the margin expected against the Rude Bruins, who just can't seem to get their team clicking.

    Day 30

    Today's featured game:

Athena's Wingers hosted CSKA Ilitj today at Arena Centrale.

The story the first period was penalties. Both teams racked up a number of them, leading to several power plays and even a few brief 2-man advantages. None of these resulted in scoring, however. The first period clearly belonged to the Wingers, partly due to power plays, as they outshot Ilitj 23-9 and beat them on 11 of 12 faceoffs.

The second period began with more of the same -- penalties. About a quarter of the way into the period, Athena Furiae launched into a two-minute power play. But Ilitj wasn't just content to kill the penalty and took advantage of a Wingers line change to break towards the net. Ilitj scored a short-handed goal that took the life out of the arena.

^^^CSKA embarrasses the Wingers with a short-handed goal.

The Wingers didn't roll over. They still had some time on their power play and they used it, putting an answering goal in less than 45 seconds later.

    athgoal4qn.gif
^^^Athena Furiae shakes off Ilitj's goal and adds their own.

The teams declined to learn their lesson and continued to produce penalties and power plays.

    iliatho13pm.jpg
^^^Some tough stuff that earned a roughing call.

Ilitj was able to produce on one of these late in the second period as they found themselves with a two-man advantage.

    ^^^A shooter's-eye-view of the goal.

The CSKA squad scored once more on a power play at the end of the period.

^^^Ilitj lines up a shot as a defensement inadvertantly blocks the goalie's view.

The first part of the third period didn't produce much action. Finally, the Winger's were able to put a goal in about 12 minutes into the third in an attempt to breath life back into their chances.

    iliath050wq.jpg
^^^The goalie was drawn to one side as a man moved in from the other side to take the pass.

They couldn't add to that total, though, and the last minute of the period found them down on the scoreboard. The goalie was pulled, but this resulted in an empty-net goal for Ilitj at 19:20. With the keeper back in the net but the Wingers generally in shambles, Ilitj did it again with just 2 seconds left in the game.

A draw doesn't help either team much. Then again, Cortezlynn can take all the help they can get (apparently the nuclear accident didn't give the players any superhuman powers afterall.)

    Residents Rebuild
    By Sean Hardy
    The Cortezlynn News

    15wo.jpg

This is a picture of the new Cortezlynn City. Veteran residents transplated the old city to this new, mountainous region and started accepting new residents. The current population is a little under 6,000 persons.

The Sierra Simms Arena has been built on the western edge of the downtown area, and the department of health and education is reguesting that the next game against Cortezlynn would be hosted here.

The 86'ers has been practicing every day since the accident, and are looking forward to a win.

The residents are also looking for a win, a win that would bring some sunshine in the otherwise gloomy lives of the residents.

    EEEK-EEEk-Eeek.
Was all that could be heard around the rink!
Some Saint Charles fans tried to throw fish onto the ice during the game, they were severly beaten by wild arcadian fans and sent away.
