Hey, welcome Mr. Cortez! You're in. But please do try to select a logo. I'm not really sure what goes with 86ers. All you have to do is look at page 1 and find a logo you want, then look at this page to see which ones are taken already. If you don't see one that fits 86ers, you could just get one with a C logo, like the Calgary Flames logo, or a more plain letter C that I didn't post because it's basically just stylized letters of the alphabet. So let me know if you want the regular C or the Calgary flaming C or another logo from the front page.

Shadow_Assassin, unfortunately, we're right at 30 teams and that's how many can be in the league. A couple people still have to get back to me about some things, so if one of them doesn't do that or drops out for whatever reason, you're in. You'll be our first alternate. Sorry, I wish there was room for everyone interested.
airmale007, that's a good idea. Maybe you should do it if you have a baseball program. That's kind of what I did with hockey. Someone should do this.... It's not the type of thing I've done before, but I decided I would do it and see how it goes. So far there is a lot of interest and I'm hoping it will be fun.

mentarman - I appreciate the vote of confidence, and agree that you deserve some of the bankroll.

Secondly - my Buffalo region isn't built on the actual Buffalo, NY map.  It's my grid region experiment - where all roads, avenues, and highways form one huge grid.  The team is located in the downtown City of Buffalo, nearest to the center of the city ( and therefore, thus, then - the center of the region. ) 

 

ALso, for all of you who are going for arena authenticity - It just so happens that a ST user by the name of sargeantcm BATed my team's arena, the HSBC Arena.  So, if you're using that as your arena . . . . .  Let's just say there'll be a conflict of home team scheduling.  LOL

Well folks, either way, I believe we're full up to 30 teams!!! I have to say I honestly am surprised there were this many people interested. I thought we'd end up with 5 or 10 dummy teams, but think how much more fun this will be.  

 

Where we go from here: I am waiting to hear back from JohnB. He has claim to a spot but I'd like his team to be based on a Sim City creation instead of a real city like now. Or maybe he has a Sim City Pittsburgh like Buffalo, which I've allowed because ryanb_sc4 has Sim City Buffalo (doesn't have to be a recreation, just a city somewhere in Sim City called the name you want to use). Anyway, waiting to hear back. If I don't hear back, or he doesn't want to change it to one of his Sim City creations, we'll give the spot to Shadow_Assassin. I'm not trying to be a jerk about anything, I think it will just be more fun if they are all based on cities you've created and doesn't become like a regular fantasy league with real teams. AJHAINC and Rude Boy, who both initially wanted NHL teams, graciously decided to change theirs to be based on cities they have, and they were the first to show interest a week ago. (thanks guys.)

 

Anyway, next will be:

 

Straightening out logos and uniforms: As I've said, some of you got uniforms of the colors you wanted, some got close, and some there just isn't anything avaibable in that color. After I'm sure of our 30 teams, I'll post the teams that have uniforms, and the teams that I couldn't get what you wanted, along with the available uniforms left.

 

Then, draft. I'll do the draft, then post the teams and lineups (which will probably take awhile unfortunately.)

 

Then, trades. We'll give those of you who want to make trades a few days to do so. Remember, you don't have to do this. You can stand with the team you have. No one should feel pressured to trade!

 

Mixed in will be one more GM Homework Assignment. There's already one on page 3 you should read if you didn't see it. It's easy to find because I wrote GM Homework Assignment in big, red letters.

 

Then I post the schedule. This is also something that will take a little time. Some of this stuff I have to write out by hand from the game and then type up due to some shortcomings of the game.

 

Rules for the All-Star Game host city selection will be posted by my assistant commissioner after we've conferred on it.

 

Then, the season starts! Within a week, I'd guess.

 

Please note: I don't want this to seem like work for anybody, and once the season is underway, I think things will run smoothly with little for you to do but have fun. But in the meantime, I need you guys to try to check in this thread often and respond to PMs promptly as I try to get logos and uniforms and such pinned down. Otherwise I'll make decisions for you for the good of the league and moving things along.

Yes, AJHAINC, at last! It seems like forever, but it was only a week of sign-ups and I'm glad we waited to get real live teams. Draft order will likely be random (with my own team then put at the bottom to avoid any appearance of cheating), but I'll speak to my assistant commish about it. He's shown himself to be a smart cookie, always knowing when to agree with me and nod at just the right time.

I'm thinking about making custom sigs for each GM. Let me know if this is a good idea or a waste of time. Basically it would be like my current sig pic but where it says come out and play it would have your logo and state that you are GM of that team. Or I might make the league logo smaller and emphasize the team more.

Plus, unfortunately there aren't really silver and gold uniforms. You're one of the teams that is going to have to compromise on other colors when I post the uniforms because there just isn't a uniform that fits the colors you picked.

 

I'm planning on posting on the uniform situation shortly, I've got one last team to straighten out logowise and then we should be ready to go.

 

Don't hesitate to ask for things you want, folks. Like in this case, I may not always be able to comply, but I'll do whatever I can to make this a great experience and I want your guys' input and ideas.

One the uniform issue, I just hope you get the Dallas Stars uniforms for the Sutherland Stars...kinda a no-brainer but I just want to make sure...NHL 2004 has the Pre-Stanley Cup Stars uniforms on there...if its possible those uniforms would be great but the current ones would be great too.

AJHAINC, you have the Stars uniforms. Everyone who has a logo based on a real team will have a real uniform. But in some cases those will be alternate uniforms to accomodate our league. For example, Trimblelina will use an alternate Caps logo becase their actual home jersey has a capitol building on it, not the eagle thing that Trimblelina has as it's logo. In Rude Boy's case, his Bruins will have an alternate (I believe older) uniform to accomodate another team that wanted yellow and black.

This will become more clear when I post the uniforms. Hopefully shortly.

Also, for you, to avoid any semblance of cheating - I suggest you place yourself no higher than pick 14.

Mr. Cortez You don't have to use the signature pic if you don't want too. Also, I can PM your logo to you if you want to try to add it to your current signature pic. Or, I could try to fit it in your signature pic, but I'm not sure how I'd go about that.
These probably won't be coming right away; I've got a lot of other things to do right now to get the league up and running. And I'm only going to make them for people who tell me they want them instead of making 30 and then having only a few people want them.

ryanb_sc4, like I said, I'll probably put myself last after generating a random order. Then I just let the game auto draft, so I'm not sure if it flip flops or not. I did run some trial runs and it didn't seem like the draft order really determined who wins in the end.

Also - may I suggest that the reason that the Snob Hill Nouveau Riche's reason for not making the league was that:  Due to the NHL's new economic system, they were about $50 million over the cap, so they were held out of play.

At this moment, does any team have greater odds of winning - or is it all the same now?  Does the draft help/hurt the teams, or is it just for realism?

They all have roughly an equal chance of winning.

Theoretically, the team with the first draft pick has an advantage because they can pick from all the players in the SHL (NHL) for their first pick. It continues on until the last team in the draft order gets their choice of whoever's left after the other 29 teams have picked.

I've simulated a few seasons as tests, though, and the draft order seems to not make that much of a difference. The last time, the team with the number one pick didn't even make the playoffs (and like half the teams make the playoffs in the NHL). There are a lot of factors like how well your team gels together, injuries, fights, suspensions, exhaustion, etc that can change your team's chances.


EDIT: Here's how the sigs pics are going to look. To avoid clutter, I didn't use the SHL logo. But I know you will all faithfully link your sig pic to this thread.

EDIT 2: Looks like I wasted my time on this one, Padraig already has a cool signature picture incorporating his logo! check out one of his posts. It does show how you can have a flashing sig pic, so you could have the one I make and any current pic you have alternate, if he'll tell us how he did that. Maybe it's an animated gif....?
