I have two people who've expressed interest but haven't posted the full rundown needed. But that would put us at 25, which leads me to believe we can make 30 teams with a couple more days for people to sign up.

ryanb_sc4, thanks for the offer of help. I remember PMing you with the idea of this a few weeks ago. I'll let you know if there's anything I need.

padraig, you have a lot of confidence! We'll have to see if it is misplaced, and that can only be decided on the ice. There's 22 other teams (including my Sephora Stingers ) that think they'll be clearing a space on the mantle for the cup, so you've got some competition.

Jerebannus XVI, that's a great suggestion and I already have an idea of how to implement it. I want to do it with a version of our teams instead of the World Cup of Hockey, and I think we'll do the finals like the NHL does, but I think that we could have a contest and the city could host an All-Star Game. How does that sound?

The schedule right now is for sign-ups to continue for a few more days. We've got a lot of interest and I'm hoping we can get to 30 teams. If not, at some point (probably Saturday after the thread's been up for a full week for sign-ups), I'll create some dummy teams to fill out the league. But like I said, we've already got 23 teams and two people who expressed interest but haven't given me a full official post, so that's pretty good.

Next step is I will draft teams and post them. Then we'll have a few days for trading for those who want to do that.

 

Then I post a schedule (which I'm working on right now) and we'll get underway. We might have a few rules decisions to make, or I might make them as our little league's benevolent dictator.

 

The season will work much like the NHL. The season, however, will only be 29 games per team. Finals will likely be best of five instead of best of 7 as the NHL does it.

 

ATTENTION GMs:

I have a homework assignment for you. I'd like you each to write up and either PM or email me a few paragraphs about your city. Just some facts about it, size, climate, sports fanaticism or lack thereof, how residents feel about the new team and league, etc. Sorta like a city journal entry. Again, don't post these here but PM me or email me by clicking on my avatar. If you'd like to include a picture (in-game shot of city, arena, or landmark, or some sort of real photo that we'll pretend is a shot of your city) that would be great (but not required.)

I'm going to take this info and use it during the first part of the season to feature different games and the cities they are in. That way we can learn a little bit about the each other's cities as we go along. You've got a few days to do this, but try to have them to me before the season starts.

I see that in some of your City Journals some of you have taken your logos to use. If anyone wants their logo PM'ed to them (instead of cutting it out of the above pic so it will be a little higher quality), just let me know.  Basically, if there's anything you need or want to suggest, put a post in this thread.

 

Also, I'd like to announce that I am taking  ryanb_sc4 up on his offer to help out. He will be assistant commissioner. I'm still in charge here and have the final say, sorry ryan , but he will be in charge of some things. For example, he will likely be in charge of setting up the system for selecting the All-Star Game host city. I'm sure if you PM him, he'll be happy to give you the address where you can send bribes.

Just three more slots! On the one hand, it'll be really easy to stick some dummy teams in there (I've already made some teams I think you'll like), but on the other hand, we're so close I'd really like to get three more participants. If you know anyone who might want one of those spots, or have a favorite city journal whose creator you'd like to see join us, let 'em know.

I'm trying to straighten out the uniforms right now. I tried to get close to what people posted as their colors they wanted, but in some cases, that isn't very close. Also, there are some duplicates (the same uniforms, but the logos are different of course). It shouldn't matter too much since each team has home and away uniforms so it shouldn't be too confusing even when the teams play each other. But I still might try to go through and make sure everyone has different ones; the only thing is that will put some people even further from their desired colors. Let me know if you think duplicates should be allowed or not. Anyway, a near post in the near future will be dedicated to sorting that out.

^^^ What to do about this? I'd prefer to keep the teams based on people's fictional, in-game cities. This isn't supposed to be a fantasy hockey league you could play anywhere, but one where it furthers the fun we have with our Sim City created cities and fun with other members on Simtropolis. I let the Buffalo Sabres in because he has a region called Buffalo, but in general it'd be more fun with Sim Cities and only Sim Cities.
On the other hand, we're down to filling in the last couple slots...
I've PM'd JohnB for more info, in the meantime, opinions anyone?
