TekindusT: Thank you.  As for the Maxis cloverleaf, I tried a rural highway cloverleaf.  It took up a large amount of space, and I couldn't finish the cloverleaf because there wasn't enough room in the center of the cloverleaf for an over or under pass.  So, I gave up and used one of the compact, functional Maxis cloverleafs.

Raysfan16: The unrealistic thing about the cloverleaf is that it's a maxis cloverleaf on a RHW network.  And, thanks for commenting on the Strip.  You'll see more of the strip when I work on the tile north of downtown.  As for the "government press release" replies thing, it's just, well, I feel more "official" if I type out responses like a professional city planner or architect might do when talking to companies or city council.

    830point35: Thank you

edmonton_stinks: Thank you.  As for the inner city, I'm honestly thinking "FINALLY, it's not behaving like a subdivision and now behaving like an inner city".  Earlier on, I was trying to figure out how to get desirability to go down, and actually had to tax the crap out of the middle class to keep them out.  It took a jail, 5 landfills, and 3 polluting power plants to kill off desirability.

    jacqulina: Thank you

Update 12: Changes to downtown, and other random crap

I've spent this morning doing a few things.  So, this is going to be one of those updates where the photos are from all over.

    Downtown changes

Downtown has seen two major new changes this year.  First, all of the ground has been covered by grass or paved areas.  Second, the new city hall has been completed.

Construction started on the new city hall in June of 2008.  The building was completed, and was opened for use by the city government on July 4, 2009.  The new city hall is now the tallest in La Ciudad, at 25 stories.  Also, the new city hall building also makes it so that La Ciudad's business district is officially larger than Tucson's business district.

Here is an image of the new city hall.

    cityhallu.jpg

And, here is a nighttime image.

    cityhallatnight.jpg

Here is a general overview of downtown as of July 5, 2009.

    changestodowntown.jpg

    Now, onto other things...

    Random pics from around town

Here is a view of North Park Condos.  The condos were built in deco style, but were built in the early 1980s.  They are some of the most expensive condos in the metro.

    condos.jpg

Also, here is a view of East Oak Office Park, built in 1975 on what was then East Oak Boulevard.

    eastoakofficepark.jpg

Finally, here is a view of Industrial Avenue's north side, the old railroad (built in the 1880s), and some 1950s subdivisions on the other side.

    Update 13: Changes to Uptown

The photo you saw of uptown last was in 2007.  We've got some more up to date photos of two new hi-rises, the tallest in uptown.  The first one started construction in February 2008.

    constructionbeginsi.jpg

The new structure rose up and took shape throughout 2008.

    underconstructionx.jpg

On May 21, 2009, the 17-story Raysfan Building opened up for a variety of corporations.

    raysfanbuilding.jpg

On June 16, the new Hawkeye Tower opened up for the newspaper, the local news channel, news archives, and a few TV shows.  The Hawkeye Tower is 20 stories tall, and marks the expansion of uptown north.

    hawkeyebuilding.jpg

Here is a night view of the Hawkeye Tower.

    hawkeyetoweratnight.jpg

Here is an image of uptown as of July 5.

    uptowntoday.jpg

Finally, we dig into the newspaper archive at the new Hawkeye Tower, and come up with a group of articles that are relevant to this city's history.

    First article, June 1878.

    1878l.jpg

Stay tuned for future updates later today...

Hawk has a taller tower than me?!?!? WHAT A DISGRACE!!!!!

Just kidding. You're really developing Uptown very agressively. How far is it from Downtown? I would expect some big traffic problems around there.

Been looking for this CJ...It looks great as usual. The office parks are very realistic.

It's safe to assume that the prostitute women who dared to hold hands in public will burn for the rest of eternity in the fiery pits of hell, correct? 3.gif. Great article lol.

Raysfan16: Your building has more square footage.  Uptown is being developed from the low density shopping area it was 20 years ago really quickly.  It is about 10 blocks north of downtown.  And, traffic is a nightmare during rush hour and the Christmas season.

Hawkeye9: Your welcome.  And, thank you for complimenting my CJ.

Kryptowhite: Thank you.  As for the woman, she was chased out of town by an angry mob and eventually reached Tucson, where she lived the rest of her life.

Update 14: The Zoo and some Churches

Before we actually get to the zoo and the churches, there is something that everyone must know.  Maya County now has more than 100,000 sims.  Below is a picture of progress so far on my region.

    progresssofar.jpg

As you can see, the downtown tile is almost complete.

    Now, onto the update!

    The Zoo District

In 1939, Public Works built a city zoo just out of town.  The zoo expanded since then.  In 1960, subdivisions were built around the zoo.  In the 1980s, an office park and some stores developed nearby.

Here is a picture of the zoo.

    laciudadzoo.jpg

Now, we take a look at the Nere Zoo Office Park, built in 1986.

    nerezooofficepark.jpg

    Random pics

    Northward Diner, built in 1949.

    northerndiner.jpg

The Century Movie theatre Chain is the largest movie theatre chain in the La Ciudad Metro area.

    centurymoviechain.jpg

Here is a view of a major road which is in the backyards of many houses.

    majorroad.jpg

    Churches around La Ciudad

Here are some pictures of churches:

    2nd Presbyterian Church

The illustrious mansion belonging the the reverend at the church.

    The 3rd Baptist Church

    West Ciudad Catholic Church

To end the update, here is an 1886 newspaper article.

Because I can't post an update today (can't get enough images), I'm just going to show an 1891 newspaper article.  Replies will come when the update arrives.

So, here's how news articles work.  I will show articles if they do one of two things...

    1) Mark an important development point in the city's development

    2) Mark an important event in the world

    Here's an 1891 newspaper article

Hmmm looks like the Presbyterian Reverend has some explaining to do.

    The City is looking good.

I like how the Railroad runs in an empty area, nice separation from development.

Ill be looking out for more!

Kryptowhite: Thank you, and I'm glad you read the newspapers

    Mr. Beer: Thank you

    jacqulina: Thank you

N106: I hate you, you $%#^#$#@^%^#$!%ing $#%!^#^ of a $#@%^# son of a @%@$!  Get the hell out of this thread, because I don't like you, and I've never liked you.  I mean, you're just a jerk- oh my god, I'm talking to myself again!

bluemoose: The reverend doesn't have to explain anything to the church- he served in city council for some time and used some tax dollars to built the house.  Thank you

Update 15: Spring Training & Marinas

To the northwest of downtown, there is a small area with several ameneties.

Here is a list of important things in that area, which first developed in the 1960s.

    1) The marina

    yachtmarina.jpg

    2) The Spring Training stadium

    springtrainingstadium.jpg

    3) Hotels and stores near the spring training stadium.

    springtraininghotels.jpg

    suburbanshopping.jpg

    4) The Marina Bridge

    marinabridge.jpg

    5) The Ciudad Expressway Bridge

    expresswaybridge.jpg

    6) The most evil mega-corporation that is threatening to take over the world- Wal-Mart.

    walmart.jpg

The area developed into the important commercial area after subdivisions first appeared in 1961.  The spring training stadium was built in 1976, and the marina was built back in 1928.

Looks like Walmart forgot where they put their dumpster 3.gif

fun fact: my town is the first town in the world to reject a walmart. Looks like you got the elusive "perfect bridge" where both support columns go in the water as opposed to one of those awkward ones with 1 in water and 1 on land.

N106- Looks like Wal-Mart is so evil they forgot to put their trash in the dumpster! Or are the trash guys 'accidentally' forgetting to pick up the trash? Hmm... also I have a suggestion. Try to make your updates a little more interesting instead of showcasing where you plopped your custom content.

    jacqulina- Thank you

    bluemoose- Thank you

    Kryptowhite- Thank you

Update 16: Changes to Uptown Architecture

The last we've seen of Uptown was on July 5th. Since then, local developer Ray Z'Fan has renovated the 17-story Raysfan Building.

    zzzzzlaciudadrf16towerd.jpg

Here is a picture of the building at night. When local developers were having a Green Night to shut off all the lights in Uptown, Mr. Z'Fan decided to be an energy-wasting swine. He put up curtains in the lit windows to make it look like he was turning the lights down anyway.

    zzzzzlaciudadrf16towern.jpg

    Comments and questions welcome!

This has been a parody update by Raysfan16. All people who think this update was by N106 is a foo. N106 don't hurt me!

    bluemoose: Thank you

Kryptowhite: Wal-Mart lost their dumpster when a bunch of 8-year olds stole it and made it their fort.  A new one won't arrive for a couple of days.  And, your town is the best town on Earth for not having Wal-Mart.

As for the "perfect bridge", it took a little bit of work.  I actually had to demolish a suspension bridge because it looked lopsided, and replaced it with the Ciudad Expressway bridge.

Raysfan16: I'd get mad for the N106 comment, but you actually do a good impression of me.  Besides, that was pretty funny.  And, as for the N106 don't hurt me part, there are a few reasons why I won't.  I'm a complete wimp who spends 60% of his time in front of a computer playing Sim City 4, 20% sleeping, 10% eating, and 10% posting these updates, and, also, because I live thousands of miles away from you.  But, seriously, that is actually not a bad impression of me.

Update 16: Uptown pics, development and the eastern suburbs

Wow, that update name is a mouthfull...  I'll just use the acronym UPDATES to refer to this update.

So, we have 2 topics to cover.

    Uptown development photos

I've decided to include something that I forgot to include in the original uptown update...

    Historic development photos of uptown.

Here is an earlier uptown development pic, from 1970.

    uptown1970.jpg

20 years later, here is a 1990 photo of uptown.

    uptown1990.jpg

Then, we have a 2000 photo of uptown.

    uptown2000.jpg

And, of course, a modern photo of uptown.

    uptowntoday.jpg

    Industrial eastern suburbs

East of the industrial district is the manufacturing inner east suburbs.  The population in these suburbs tends to be workers at the nearby factories.  The neighborhood has a mix of low and middle class.  Here's a view of a typical street in the inner east suburbs.

    workersneighborhood.jpg

Now, here's some photos of industrial areas in the older east suburbs.

    industrialpark.jpg

    manufacturing.jpg

    oldermanufacturing.jpg

In 1959, La Ciudad had a massive oil power plant built in the industrial district to meet the city's growing power demands.

    oilplant.jpg

8 years later, three gas plants were built to help with the growing power demands after a 2-day long blackout hit the city.

    naturalgascenter.jpg

(Sorry about the poor quality of the photo- I just didn't want to show the edge of the city tile)

Finally, to conclude the update, there is an 1895 newspaper article.

    1895.jpg

The industrial east is a booming area of La Ciudad.  In this part of town, inexpensive homes and nearby jobs are offered without the area being a hellhole.  Of course, there is concern that it will turn around and become just like the areas south of downtown.  This is a significant possibility by 2025.

Petrovar Ambassador: Thank you, and I forgive you for not replying.

GreekMan: Thank you, and the city hall is the Tucson Tower, made by Simgoober

Raysfan16: lol.  The Raysfan Building is on the intersection of Oak Boulevard and Central Avenue.  And, if you like grimy industrial areas, you'll LOVE this update!

    Update 17: Inner South suburbs

South of the inner city is a not-as-bad layer of hell.  Subdivisions built in the 1950s and 1960s were built for lower weath citizens who wanted a rural atmosphere.  Southern growth stopped in the 1970s and 1980s, but was back in the 1990s due to the deteriorating inner city.  The southern subdivisions, while poor and polluted, had slightly better schools and slightly less crime, and less abandonment.

Here is a view of a typical southern subdivision.

    poorsubdivision.jpg

Along major arteries in southern La Ciudad, there are industrial parks with dirty and manufacturing industries.

    industryofffreeway.jpg

    industry.jpg

Here is a picture of the railroad as it makes its way through the south metro.

    railroad.jpg

There is also a small service station for shipping and railroad repair.

    smallstation.jpg

Finally, to finish this small update, a newspaper article from 1898.

    1898.jpg

Oh, and, just for future clarification, I do not think that there was a conspiracy for 9/11.   The words expressed by The Ciudad Times don't necessarily represent the opinions of N106.

    Comments and questions welcome!

If the question involves the newspaper and N106's opinions, please talk to my legal counsel, who will direct you to the security office, where you will be escorted out the 33rd story window.

This CJ has a lot more in common with the rust belt than anything else. Cleveland and Detroit are much better represented in this CJ than the Southwest...I mean the Southwest has like no industry (outside of L.A). This CJ belongs in the Midwest somewhere between the shining Chicago and the wonderful New York 4.gif.
