Here you are, frogface. I've added some fences but they don't show up very well other than in a closer zoom.

I know Virgin Rail doesn't go from King's Cross but I don't know which company does now - not GNER anyway!

I'd say black might look nice (quiet, DuskTrooper 5.gif), Frogface ...
Also, BarbyW, what happened to the layout I see in this picture?
I really like the platforms and that hangover signal prop ... please do something like that!

I would keep the platforms. It looks a little short in the picture BarbyW posted.

Equinox: Black? Huh, what do you want black?34.gif

Equinox: froface didn't send me the platforms so I couldn't put them in. He is going to send them now so I shall add them and see how it looks.

The lot is 7wide by 9 deep already so we'll have to see how big it is with platforms and see if you want such a big lot.

That lot is really looking good Barby; the simple yet classic Italianate lines of Kings Cross are complemented by the people milling about and add a great air of realism. As far as I know it is GNER that is the main train operator at Kings Cross, if you look closely at the latest Harry Potter film you will see a GNER loco in the background when the Hogwarts express leaves the station.

Edit: I am not sure about adding in the outside platforms, as you say, the lot is already quite large

Thanks for the info that GNER is back in business. It disappeared, of course, after privatisation when the network became BR. I am out of touch with the new rail companies apart from Virgin. I haven't travelled by train in the UK for a long time30.gif
I have to agree about the outside platforms. I do think they will make the final lot too big. I'm still waiting for them from frogface if he is going to send them. I can give it a try and ask you all for comments.

The only thing I liked about privatisation was the bringing back of some of the old train company names, but now they have merged the Great Eastern, Anglia and WAGN (West Anglia Great Northern) train franchises into One, yes they now call them selves one, how silly can you get, imagine the announcements,

privatisation certainly has made it interesting with all the idfferent train companies, since i live south im only really familiar with South Central. we did go through Kings Cross during easter when we went on holiday and caught the GNER which was part of my inspiration to do the station.
'The One' what kind of a name is that for a train company lol

I like to post a note
    if it isn't know already
but custom bat or loteditor building loose their transit enability if a building is build or plopped right next to it
the few frogface stations i had went dead when i plopped a building or one got build right next to it
no trains can drive through both u-drive and in-game transportation (this include query & ingame travels by sims

i havent had problem with it so far, i'll check. but in route querys it may look like the station is blocking the train because the line ends when it enters the station and begins as it exits, it may look like nothing is gonig through but in actual fact it is.

but if its an issue in general with transit enabled lots then there isnt much i can do

Smurfer: look a page back and see the pic of the elevated rail station.  The staircase is what I am talking about recoloring.  Not the station.
I still would really like those platforms, but yes, I agree, that is something I could do myself if given the props.  Maybe two sc4lot files could be included in the final release?  9.gif

Sorry, folks, I meant nationalisation not privatisation in my previous message43.gif. It was good old British Rail when I worked for them. (Too many years ago to remember!)
On the subject of King's Cross Station, equinox, don't forget that you can't have two tranist enabled lots adjoining so two lots would mean that the station would have to lose its tranist enable.
    Smurfer2: I can't post a picture with the platforms as I haven't got them.

i experimented with different coulours on the El station:
    /idealbb/files/metrocityELblack.jpg
black as Equinox suggested, hmm i dont think it suits it
    /idealbb/files/MetrocityElblue.jpg
and blue, looks a bit too bright for the station...
i think the old stair colour suits it best

Yes, frogface, they've arrived. They were stuck behind a ginormous file from deadwoods while I was writing above message.29.gif
I have added the platforms and have some pictures from LE and in game in a test city. There are some zoom problems but I put those down to a draft render.

    Zoom problem!

The above lot is 13 deep but if the platforms are to remain on the lot it will need to be 15 deep. Can I have everyone's comments before I do any more with this lot?

I would say that the platforms makes it look more realistic even if the lot gets bigger.

I did say I would wait for feedback before making any more changes so I am taking note of all comments.
Re the garbage - this is an integral part of the railway system. 9.gif

    oops! *slaps forehead*
i rendered two versions of the platform, i must have sent you the one that was broken! that was actually a medium render i believe. i'll try to sort it out, i think i may be able to recover the file so ill try that as i dont trust the renderer at the moment

That black thing, well, I think it should be black.

I hope you can get the platforms sorted out. Those platforms make the station longer and better. (I thought it was a little short without them)

I think you really should keep the platforms even if this does make the plot larger. Railway stations have always traditionally taken up a lot of space in British cities so there is no reason why this shouldn't either. It is a very accurate recreation.

After all it is a landmark as well as a station.44.gif

Ps. have the plans for the modern concourse been abandoned?
