I'm working on a new train, a futuristic looking one. (Sort of boxy [but rounded edges] and has a small bubble at either end. It has no wheels (none that can be seen by the player anyway). I made a simple 512x512 pattern that should be followed to make a texture for the train.

This is just an example texture, a pattern for a new texture. This one's too simple (and/or cruddy) to be used in-game, and my vehicle textures typically look like crud, so can someone else try this? The co-ordinates specified below are for the texture I showed (I've already UVW mapped the passenger car).

Pattern: @ X (- pos), Y(| pos). Width, Height: Purpose

@ 0, 0. 512x100: Roof
@ 0, 100. 512x200: Side (visible side)
@ 0, 300. 212x212: Door (between cars)
@ 212, 300. 212x212: Front (on the engine only)
@ 424, 300. 88x88: Hook (holds trains together)
@ 424, 388. 88x88: Eye (hole for hook)

Windows and the door don't need to be the same shape, but don't forget that the edges of the train are rounded slightly so don't make the doors too wide. (Don't forget to add headlights! [like I did 43.gif])

I'm making a new model, but that is the texture that I UVW mapped the train with.

    it would help if you can post a pic of the model and even better post the 3D file. The way I made the texture for the car was to use screenshots of the model itself

    Can you modd the cars so their are the only vehicles that show up on the streets?

    I'm just thinking if we turn on cars all other Earth vehicle models will be seen too and that shouldnt happen.

    Any chance on the model file for the train?

    OK here's the train models. These still have the bland texture that I made. (Still no headlights! 43.gif)

    I will try adding details and taking screenshots to make the texture. I will use an experimental car to try this out, the Sporty Rover. (R$$$?) It's shaped somewhat like a bullet but the end isn't as round. It will have 6 wheels for extra balance.

    Thanks for the pic, if you can post the actual 3D model we can give it a try with texturing too. For the model: can we make the front of the car more aerodynamic, it's just like a flat front at the moment

    Do you mean the first model (engine) or the second (car)? Because the cars are hooked up behind the engine.

    bdswim : Do You use a UVW Map or Unwrap UVW Modifier or you just texturing via Vertex by Vertex

    A little idea I got up with...

    For the Area 5.1 (or whatever it will be called), there should be a 'special tank'. Maybe taking up two lanes (heh, that would be fun).

    Remember. Don't do Earth airplanes. This mod is the future, so at-least try to make a small passenger space-shuttle. Like those shuttle props that came with SMBeta 2. And there's this one I-ht building that has a UFO. Maybe you can use that UFO prop or try to get from the creator so you can use it as a UFO.

    LVK_ST Nice to meet you as well. Join the team simply by contributing your ideas and any BATs you would like to create. Start by reading the BAT and Lot Guidelines thread. Have you downloaded the SimMars Beta 2? You will want this for the lot textures and many props.

    Most people also register at the SMEX (SimMars Exchange) so they can swap files with the other team members. I will try to post these models there later today. You are welcome to work with them.

    No. I don't hold copyright to the original models. We can use and distribute rendered SC4Model files but no file that contains original .3ds of these models.

    The gmax file not .3ds.I will convert it .. i can,t use it because it maid by standard BAT LOD

    GMAX file may save as different file format but if it contains the original geometry (which it does!) then distribution is a violation of intellectual property rights.

    The models are from Institut National Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique here: http://www-roc.inria.fr/gamma/download/download.php

    I think they were in subfolder SF, but there are many other models besides. You may download and texture them yourself. Many of my textures are here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/1mwmyymmmyy/tim_Mars Textures.zip

    I also use some of Rene's textures which are probably in e's SMEX folder.

    Why are you unable to work with standard LOD for automata?

    ans: Because automata are type of RTK 1 means the model can move freely in SimCity 4 and it use as 3ds or complex LOD for GMAX

    So many model can be use as automata for SimMars

    Here's a try for ocean frighters:

    This was orginally intended for space / air.  But it's too big like 400m for a plane replacement. 

    This has to be an overhanging lot for this to be space / air.  For the sea, this has to be a ploppable and automata.

    If you can make this a hovering frighter then that's the idea for this.
