Hi everyone!  Well, Im sort of new but not really.  Been playing SC since it came out on SNES then played 2000, then 3000, and now 4!  I had 4 when it first came out on my Athlon 1700/Radeon 9700 pro system.  That thing crapped about a couple of years ago and I just got around to building a new machine.  I am now running a Athlon quad core 9500 with a Radeon HD4870 1GB.

The game works for the most part but I do have some questions/issues

First off- it doesnt work right with antisotropic filtering on.  It works but I cant see zones or roads as I buld them.  Also some things are missing.  The fireworks go off but are invisible, etc.  Works fine without the filtering.  Any ideas on this?  I have tried multiple drivers.

Secondly, this game is hella old and should run ultra smooth on my rig but doesnt.  it starts to bog a bit when my city gets big. (Im at 300,000).  Is there any tweaks or anything to improve this?  I have all the patches.  I am running at 1620x1080 full settings.

I got a really nice PC with like 6 g or RAM and a quad processor, but at 300,000 the cities really start slowing up. This is much better, as in the past anything over 100,000 was problematic (though I once reached 1,100,000 on a large til

I googled this a bit and found some old stuff. One was a guy suggesting to people that they needed at least two gigs of RAM and then another guy telling him that was absurd! LMAO!

If the OS is Vista, you could run short of physical memory with only 1GB of memory. I have cities that will use up to 900MB of memory. It will depend on how many custom lots, and mods that are installed.

Also, I remember hearing that there is a problem using dual and quad core processors. Sim City (from what I have read) runs off of only one of the processors instead using the power of all two or four. So you maybe have 4 ghz quad core, but the game is only using one of the 1 ghz processors. Also, I really suggest 2 gb of RAM. With that much, the only problems you will have are unfixable. jk, but really, 2 gb really helps the game run faster and with better quality.

Is that  1G on the vidio card or in the system?

Im thinking if you have 1 G one the vidio you must have more  system mem.

The game works fine on my system ( P4 3.0GHz  4G Ram ) I used to only have 2 and it ran fine too.

That rumor may have been started by someone that didn't use a multicore processor.  The game uses all cores on my Core2duo, and Core2quad, with no problems.  If there is a problem, it is not with the processor.

Oh, I wasnt saying I had that amount of RAM I was just stated that I had found that as it was quite funny. I have a 1GB Radeon HD4870 and 3GB system RAM on Vista Home premium. The game really does run pretty good I suppose. I am at nearly 500k people and it is not too bad. Is there any way to correct the anisotropic filetering issues?

    Thanks all!!

Core i7 940 CPU, 12GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM, 2 GTX 260 OCX MaxCore 896Mb GFX Cards and mine still struggles with about 750,000 sims or more.

To me it seems to slow down a lot more if you use NAM + lots of different transport options (e.g. GLR, GHSR, ElRail, and Trains) all at once, in comparison to just NAM with roads/highways etc. which makes sense seen as it improves the pathfinding heuristics...

Anyone else notice that it seems proportional to the number of different networks utilised?
