Spore Killed Sporeum

No one talked abou tthe game except how limited it was.

Well run site though, Dirks a genius

As Easy Bakes said, Sporeum died because of Spore.

Really was a great site, Dirk certainly put lots of work into it!

I had gone in April to see what was up, and I was hoping that the site was finally going to get up and running and become as big and bold as Simtropolis. I couldn't be farther off the mark.

So was Spore not easily modified?

edit: I read the FAQ, never mind.

Frankly this would have been amazing.

I remember in the old SC2K CD-ROM how Will said he wanted the future of Sim games to be that you could create a house or a car and then place it in a larger world. Of course, there's some essence to that in The Sims, but The Sims has turned into a mindless monotonous money-maker for EA rather than an open-ended creator it was originally envisioned to be.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

^ EA tried to do the same thing with Spore, which is why it failed so miserably. I think that's why Will finally left EA: they've taken his last two projects and turned them into rubbish.

No matter where you go, there you are!

I just tried to check in on Sporeum after a VERY long absence to find it's gone. Never did find out how many stages of evolution I'd need to get through to reach something with a rudimentary brain (and I was in the top 50 evolvers!)

Bitter, bitter.  In EA's hands, anything that is not an annual sport seems to die the death, but what hasn't happened is that gobbler of software outfits, Oracle, hasn't seen fit to stamp them with its logo.

Spore starrted up with this great idea, and a cloud to put your stuff on and share it with everyone who had the game.  It was an elegant idea in the hands of Wright and friends, but elegance is not an EA trait.  The name of the company should be changed to Electronic Ashes.  Then it should be taken out to the land fill.  I have some of them in my SimCities, and they would be a welcome addition to one or more of them.
