Making a building historical will prevent that building from ever being built on top of, i.e., it will always be there unless you destroy it yourself. this is a resurrected option from SC3000.

Also the fasted type of rail transportation (to my understanding) is the monorail.

When a building is made historical it won't be replaced by other buildings except you bulldoze it first. The monorail is supposed to be the fastest rail.

EDIT: Lol, I posted this on the same second as the guy before me.

When you start a city with easy, is it only the money that changes or is it the whole gameplay?

On the easy level you get more start money, more tax revenue and more demand for all zones. There may be more advantages but I know about these.

On easy, the city grows faster, and you get more advice.
On medium, the city grows a bit slower and you get less advice.
On hard, the city grows slowly, and you get no advice.

Really? I though the difficulty levels only changed the amount of money you start with.

Nope, it alters everything already mentioned, plus the stage limits are lower as well.

So you could say that hard is like the regular option, before Rush Hour. And one question, I've noticed that the taxes are set at 9 % with RH, should I lower them to encourage growth?

Depends. When you first start a city, 9% is neutral. Meaning, it doesn't make them mad, but it doesn't bring them in, either.

One thing to be careful of when lowering taxes; this applies mostly to R$$$ but also to R$$ to a certain degree. DON'T lower them too far, or too many will try to move in and you will have MASSIVE unemployment problems. Best way to kill an established city is to lower R$$$ taxes too far. A whole bunch will move in, won't be able to find jobs, and will abandon, making your city look like it was hit by a bomb.

Yes, Hard in Rush Hour is the same as the original release of SC4.

    Historic building problem!!

I love the historic option for SC4 so that you can keep what buildings you have where you want them.  However, for some reason, my historic option is not working correctly.  Whenever I put a building as "Historic", some times it is still torn down and replaced with a newer building.

Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening?

    Thanks!

    Ummm...

    A. This question belongs in Bugs & Technical Issues

    B. Please don't revive two-year old threads. It's okay to start a new thread since your question doesn't really relate to the topic of the thread. Good for you for searching though.

that has happened to me on occasion actually. If you query the building that grew in place of the old one, often the historical check box is checked. its pretty weird, i think its a bug that only happens when conditions are just right.

Maybe this could be exploited for a mod that lets you declare the whole city historical when its just exactly the way you like
