Ok  5 episodes of SGU. All in one sitting.

not sure i like how every one who gets lost or seperated shows back up with little to no explianation.

I realy like the episode "Human"  which shed some light on Rush's past.

And "Pain" the one with the ticks that caused halucinations.

3 more episodes for this season left, a cliff hanger is in the wokres.

I've been watching occasional episodes of Andromeda which air at 0600 EDT on Show Case.  Shades of the Shatner Star Trek!  While I have great respect for the memory of Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett, better scripts might have saved this series from oblivion by syndication.

I dunno.  that doesn't seem consistent somehow.

It was a good use of the stones.  But both Jack and Daniel don't look like themselves anymore.   and the parallel torture scenes were more than a bit icky.

Looking forward to the finale! quote>

Is it bad that I wouldn't mind if Rush was suddenly breathing vacuum?

Not to be too nit picky here but aren't the stones in the Pentagon?    and isn't Stargate Command in Colorado Springs?  Short of having Asgaard beaming technology handy, that's a 3+ hour plane ride.  But it doesn't look like the regular Stargate command so maybe it's their office in the Pentagon?

and what's with the ship taking off from the ground on Earth and no one notices?

True.. Jack has put on some weight since his SG-1 days. Regardless, I'm glad that they were able to bring the characters, if briefly, into the series and give them a purpose, rather than having them make an appearance for the sake of making an appearance.

Wasn't Jack made the whatever of Homeworld Security? I always assumed that was a Pentagon thing.

I don't think we ever did see the ship actually take off.. I thought it was cloaked. But to be fair, ships taking off in plain sight (and skyscrapers, as I recall, disappearing) has happened before in SG-1. 3.gif

I thought this was the best episode so far. Seems a lot more peopel know about destiny then they thought.

I thought the stone use a couple weeks ago was pretty neat, good for the parliazed lady  not so good for the one who changed spaces with her.

On a different subject:  Some of the newer SF pictures are now available on demand TV cable.

I just watched Avatar.  What a wonderful piece of science-fantasy.  Corporate greed = evil; downtrodden aborigines = good.

The interesting thing was the conversion of Jake.  It was improbable that he could survive his first encounter, but pocohontas rescued him because the tree seeds liked him.

Overall, this reminded me of a story I read years ago in, I think, Analog or the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction as it may have been called then.  These guys wanted to kidnap these kids for their inheritance, but they were protected by a sentient organism that was connected to everything.  The bad guys were eaten by various creatures, and even their ship was handled by a garbage collector below the surface.  In true John W. Campbell fashion, none of the bad guys survived, but there were only three of them.  Anyway, the organism was called a diamondwood forest.

If you have read enough literature, nothing is new.

However, I really liked the effects in Avatar.  Second to none.  Too bad I am monocular, I understand it is available in 3D.  Some of the battle scenes in the finale would have been terrific in 3D.

As creature features go, I give this an A+.

I never understood in Avatar if they had the medical technology to clone an alien species

how they didnt fix his back as a routine medical procedure when he was injured.

I agree with N_O_B:  the special effects in Avatar were excellent.

They could fix his back, but it was too expensive for him to afford it.

The society was controlled by the corporations.  Only corporate employees were eligible for medical care on that scale.

Maybe Obama's Medicare Bill isn't so bad after all, eh?

On another topic:  Here is the log I made while waiting for my Internet service to return.  Maybe I was stupid to wait to reboot my modem, but it usually handles it on its own.  Rebooting manually means a physical unplug, pause, replug, cross fingers.  Worked this time;

Friday, 28 May 2010 06:12 PM EDT: Internet and phones off the air.

Still have Cable tv, so: I am watching the 2009 CSI empisode titled "A Space Oddity"

If you like parody, you'd have to love this. It is full of Star Trek one liners:

Brass: Can you be more specific?

Hodges: He's dead, Jim.

Need I go on.

The victim of the murder is a producer who wanted to make a down and dirty version of the show (Astroquest). Thinly disguised ST convention parody. Every Trekker will enjoy this show. So, if you can find it, enjoy.

07:02 PM: It must be Friday night. Star Trek the original motionless picture just came on. Camp! Going to watch it. It is an acquired taste.

09:02 PM Next movie: Mercury Rising. Trouble in the U.S. government with autistic kid.  Alec Baldwin makes a great villain.

10:49 PM Eastlink's Internet Service and Telephone service has not yet been re-established. My modem has been in boot since the first time hack on this message. The movie channel is running Star Trek again, so I switched to the military channel which is running a documentary about the Holocaust.

The next show on this channel is an hour on how war spread during WW I.

I guess I am going to post this log somewhere public when the service comes back on. I can't seem to get the Eastlink outfit to do whatever is necessary to clean up the act in the Goderich office. There has been at least once instance of all three services being off, leaving me isolated and without any entertainment to soothe my ire.

Eureka! I just did a power off reboot on the Internet/Phone modem and service seems to be reestablished. They were not smart enough to send a general reboot over the net, which I find odd. Friday, 28 May 2010 10:58 PM

SGU is wrapping up its first season very strongly. Looking forward to the finale this week!

(Anyone else think Franklin when the guy was disintegrated?)

In regards to Avatar, I have to agree with you both - it was worth the price just for the visual effects. I wasn't able to see it in 3D, unfortunately. I'm really hoping they're still going to rerelease it in Imax 3D in August.

I was stuck for something to watch the other night so I ran Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.  Interesting enough but the FX were dated and this is a relatively new movie.  Compared to Avatar, it seemed almost antiquated.  I hope that the Deathly Hallows movie, when it comes out, will be better.

Looking forward to the SGU finale, it I am set up to watch it.  I am going to move my TV soon.

After seeing Avatar, almost every movie i've seen since looks a little dated lol.

And I can't wait till the SGU finale. I wonder if were are going to find out if the Destiny has any intruder defense systems... ect. I saw a little clip in the preview of people outside the ship trying to fix something.
