Am I missing something? Any dog can be trained to do almost anything you want it to do. Not just GS's.

One of mine learnt (was not trained, but learnt by itself) to open the front door to people. Mine were Pets and were friendly to other people. But they can and are, trained as guard dogs, which might attack intruders. They are of course used by the Police to attack criminals. Ex guard dogs don't generally make good pets though.

Joe Biden merely picked the dog of his choice. If his choice is a dog from a breeder, a shelter, or a forest, that is his choice. I have no problem with it.

PETA simply sucks...go way overboard on everything...get off your whining laurels and get a life...

If you can't stand someone might disagree with you, go jump in a lake, lots of people agree with that.

PETA, you need to stop whining about pointless subjects and quit taking completely idiotic actions against those who disagree with you.

I bought my Weimaraner from a breeder. I suppose I'm guilty of multipe crimes. First, by buying from a breeder, I've killed a dog in a shelter. Second, I'm sure the next complaint will be that I didn't buy an American dog.

If you think PETA is being lame here, you should check out what they had to say about Call of Duty: World at War. A very similar argument they posed when Medal of Honor came out.

These people are just radical nut jobs. I'm thankful for the First Amendment, but there are just times when I wish you needed a liscense or something to practice it.

Trouble is some of the Radical Nut Jobs observe the second amendment. That could be worrying. (see other thread)

Maybe they are slipping...Then we might never have to hear about PETA raiding science labs and slowing down advancement of a cancer cure or something. Knowing them, they could careless what the cure is for, they just want to kill save the animals.

I don't think that PETA has any right to do such an attack.Someone can decide to take it's puppy from a breeder rather than from a shelter, and there is no logical connession between that and the high death rate  within PETA shelters. Also, an high death rate it's only fault of it's tenants, that is PETA.So, i think that PETA attacked Biden only to cover it's faults.

People purchasing pets from breeders instead of choosing adoption is actually a huge factor in the skyrocketing euthanasia rates in America's shelters (~4 million every year). Choosing to go to a breeder means that that's one less dog in a shelter being adopted...not only that, but it only increases the demand for breeders (especially Puppy Mills) to keep turning out these "prize winning" dogs. And do you know where most of these dogs purchased from breeders end up? Smack dab in an overcrowded dog shelter because the people who purchase them are generally irresponsible owners who can't care for, properly train or keep their dog from running away and therefore give them up. And while not every shelter is designed to be some sort of slaughter house (though I would certainly say that PETA's generally are) it comes down to an issue of economics...more and more people give up dogs to shelters and less and less people choose to adopt; do the math, that means overcrowding. And no matter how much you care for the animals, there comes a point where those running the shelter have to make the choice between euthanizing some of the dogs to keep the shelter afloat or simply going under; in which case all the dogs are out of a home.

That being said, I certainly don't believe that villifying breeders and those who purchase from them is the answer. However, I think it would have been a great gesture (and political stunt) if the Biden's had chosen to adopt from a shelter.

That probably would have looked better. Indeed he could have got one from a PETA shelter.

ooooohh wait......that's right, they kill all the animals in their care. Silly me 2.gif

If this doesn't show that PETA is an organization for nut jobs who don't think through then I don't what is. But you have to love the writers response to that.

Come to think of it, I'm surprised PETA hasn't gone after the bug exterminators yet......all the countless trillions of termites and other pesty bugs/insects that have been gassed and poisoned in the name of saving a house. I mean really, where's the outrage over that???

okay, so I want a good dog that I know has a sound breeding history, and not some emotionally scarred street mutt that probably gets violent at the first loud noise it hears, and I'm a murderer. I'd tell the people there to get down off their high horse, but riding horses is cruel and evil. You have to be pretty touched in the head to send the VP death threats because he bought a dog from a breeder.
