Okay, because I didn't think either of these warranted their own thread, I lumped them together in one big thread.

First we have Apple making their Shuffle use only one kind of headphone:

Lynksys

Just another brick in the Apple hating wall.

And

And now, the Ipod. It melts in your pocket, not your hand.

Lynksys 2.0

I dunno, the headphone DRM seems a bit over the top to me. This is why you don't build them so small. People don't always like those earbuds.

However, I find the Ipod exploding quite hilarious. I do feel bad for the kid, but it was a freak event.

It's so small that there's no room for controls or a screen on the damn thing.

Okay, I think that's the indication that these things are getting too small. Portable technology is nice and all, but when taken too far it becomes a problem. Think about how easy it would be to lose something that small. Or how easily it would break. Tiny things tend not to be very durable.

As for making the headphones proprietary... yeah, see, it's that kind of crap that's why I can't stand Apple.

And hey, exploding iPods! Next edition: the iPod Pipe Bomb. Or maybe an iNade? All I know is that I can't wait for the iNuke. Which will come with

as the sample song.34.gif

One more point in favor of console systems. 2.gif

Bah. The only apples I like are the kind you eat.

Think I'll stick to my good old ipod mini.

Even itunes is getting annoying. It constantly asks me to update and each time I do, its just gets harder to put songs in it other than the ones bought on itunes music store. $2 a song? I think NOT!

I no longer use iPod's. Moved on to another player, the Creative ZenXfi. Nice little player it is as well. Got bored of iPod 4.gif

I like my el cheapo mp3 player just fine, and I can get the headphones/earbuds anywhere similarly cheap. The proprietary headphones are really over the top, and are begging for someone to start an underground market in headphone retrofitting.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

Another reason why I bought a zune. Sure it has it's problems, but I love it. Plus the headphones that came with it are wonderful. The apple headphones are just a hard plastic case with a metal cheese grater surface. I can't even get them close to my ear with out my ears starting to hurt. Bleh. Plus, I can't stand the wheel.

I do like the wheel on my iPod nano, but the damn thing doesn't work sometimes. What I mean by that is that when I'm scrolling down or turning the volume up, random sections of the wheel "die". They simply stop working and I don't know why. Does this happen to anyone else?

Now the exploding iPod, can that happen on any regular iPod classic, nano or shuffle? It's got me worried...

I wonder when they will get to tthe point were the headphones cost more to buy then the actual device. You see this for printers every were, the ink cost almost as much as the printers do.

I'm sure we'll reach a point in which we have exploding headphones. Then, after that, iTunes will cause your computer to catch on fire.

Where else are ya supposed to put it? 3.gifquote>

Exactly! It's like saying don't get in your car if you don't want to get in an accident. My zune has never gotten hot. I'm extremely surprised since every other electronic device I have heats up pretty quick.

It can happen to anything with a battery. I wouldn't worry about it. quote>

Well, it depends on what sort of battery it is and what Apple have done to safeguard against such explosions. Remember those exploding laptops not long ago?

Personally, I'd never buy an iPod, seeing as I despise Apple in general... but seriously, proprietary headphones? There's only one place for them and that's on mobile phones (a pain in the ass, but thank god the manufacturers are moving to standard headphone sockets for MP3 playback in addition to those special ones they use).

I'm happy with my Walkman, thank you very much.

God, I used a Walkman till about a year ago. I loved that thing...till I lost it. Then my replacement sucked. Horrible battery life. But I agree, I can't stand apple either. And I noticed their sound cards on the macbook pros get pretty hot too. I burned my hand on one once! on one once. hmmm... I like the way that looks, on one once.
