Scotia Plaza s my fave buildong in the city, this should be a fun one to make
/idealbb/files/Scotia.jpg

This is Manulife Place (Left) and Commerce place (righht). These are the 1st and 4th tallest buildings in the city.
/idealbb/files/commerce3.jpg

This is West Edmonton Mall, the worlds largest mall.  This will prove to be very challenging, if i do it, it will take a LONG time.
/idealbb/files/WEM2.jpg
This is Station Lands, a Commercial complex that is planned to be built in Edmonton sometime soon.  It consists of 2 towers, both will share the label of tallest building in edmonton, and 2 smaller ones.  The concourse will be made of shops and restaurants, etc.

This is a BAT Request and all BAT requests should go in the request thread. Vigo, putting down other nations on this site will result in trouble, so please keep your political feelings to yourself

Aw, comeon, there's nothing wrong with stating the truth18.gif Although the US has a lot of nice towers too.

This does bring back memories, though.

Please do not bump ancient request threads. Such threads like this are not accepted anymore. And you are mistaken in te fact, because American Architecture is vastly superior to Canadian architecture.

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

    ok DT.

This wasnt a request thread, I planned to make these myself, but It never happened for I was useless at BAT.

And it isnt a fact at all that american architecture is better than Canadian architecture, for it is based on O P I N I O N.  Sure the US has talller buildings and more of them, but the US has over 250 000 000 people living there where CAnada has over 32 000 000. Ask most people, most will say Canada if they live in Canada, and US if theyy live in the states.  In my opinion Canada's buildings are cooler than in the states, that is my opinoin, it doesnt mean that one is definitley better than the other.

oh and mods you can close this thread its old.

What's gonna happen with those apartments (I cant remember their name or find a pic in the Sun) that they're going to build over the heritage mall site? Is someone gonna BAT those. They look so cool. And if anyone does Rexall Place you've gotta release it on the STEX. I'm no good at making realistic BATs of realistic buildings, but so many people here are awesome at it.

How could this even turn into a who has better architecture thread? The fact is...many building in the US are designed in Canada and many buildings in Canada are designed in the US. If not the majority being joint efforts. I know Edmonton for some reason has a huge glass plant that sends windows across north america aswell as many architecture ferms here aswell that make plans for around the globe.

If you are going to compare cities and there skylines....Canadian cities for there population have huge downtown cores vs the US. The Toronto area is around 5million and it has nearly 2,000 skyscrapers including the worlds tallest freestanding structure. Edmonton and Calgary with 1million each have over 200 skyscrapers each. How many american cities of 1million have 200+ skyscrapers. I mean LA has 17 times the population of Edmonton and not even twice the skyscrapers...

If anyone wants to look try.... www.emporis.com

Vigo you where wondering about  the new complex going up in Edmonton at the heritage mall site...heres a peak..
    Century Plaza.

My region also has info on this.

Canada just seems to have more skyscrapers for the cities.  Vancouver has 530 towers for 583296 people!  It is number 5 for top North American number of skyscrapers!  I think that Canadian skylines are more dense (but there are certainly many exceptions) but American skylines are much taller.
Ahhh well, both of them have some amazing skylines!

    I Love the TD Tower!

Canadian Skylines are more dense?  Hmm, the reason might be is that they do value land more than Americans.  They actually have less of it thats suitable for humans.  Americans can really put a city anywhere.  This is probably the best answer your going to get.  I've studied this aspect in my geography class.

I really don't see how anyone can say that a certain nation's architecture is better than the others... lots of americans have designed buildings up here and lots of canadians have designed buildings in the U.S. ...

Anyways, Jersey already asked me to maybe do a few buildings from Edmonton... I'd be happy to, when I have the time away from the Winnipeg Project and RL, and if someone can supply me with high-resolution photos of the buildings you want... PM me at any time...

Because they're trying to keep close together to conserve body heat? 2.gif

Uhm, no seriously... it probably has something to do with building code requirements and/or real estate economics. I'll have to look into the subject more, but my guess is that distances between structures, and things of that nature, are more heavily regulated here in the States, and it might be less expensive for a project to be placed in rim development (further out from a city's center) than core development.

The problem we're facing here in Midwestern USA (the region west from Indiana to Kansas, south from Minnesota to Oklahoma) is that the cities are growing in terms of area, but are decreasing in density while doing so.

Aside from Vancouver, Edmonton was my favorite place to visit in Canada. Although Winnipeg may become a favorite sometime soon 2.gif Glad to see some more from North of the border!
