I want to know what exactly look Croatian. Mediteranean? Because I didn't saw cities that have a exactly Croatian look.... I know that in Croatia it's low density and northern looking like Budapest and Vienna but exactly???

Well, eventhough the map is from Croatian coast (nobody objected, so I went along with the Kvaerner Gulf that you were able to see earlier in the thread), there are no plans (yet) of a particular style. And what goes on a Croatian look - these BATs don't even exist yet. BAT litterates should consider this as a challenge - or at least a few of us should be able to use LE to modify lots to better suit the 'Croatian' look. I suppose what we are looking for, is kind of Mediterranean style (Italian suits fine), with a combination of Austrian type of buildings. And these can be already found in the plugin directories of many.

Examples of real Croatian looks to give you some ideas:

    Croatia043Porec.jpg

    Croatia162Pula.jpg

I think this is feasible, with some decorative skills that you all have 1.gif

EDIT: Above pictures are all from following Croatian coastal cities: Rovinj, Pula, Porec, Dubrovnik. They have been heavily influenced by Venetian Republic in 15th - 18th centuries.

EDIT 2: Pictures below are from Rijeka, also on our map...

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//rijeka3-1900.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//rijeka.jpg align=baseline>

If anybody insists of having more modern look, Rijeka area in the maps could be better for that person... what do you think?

I hate to say this, but I'd really prefer to keep the group as small as posible. The more people, the more organisation, posible problems, discrepancies.

Your second batch of pictures were really nice !  I think you will be an excellent Croatian builder 44.gif
To answer your question, I think it will be very tough, if not impossible, to give our CJ a real Croatian look (it is indeed too much mediterranean). Well, actually, the coast look extremely mediterranean and the land looks more Austrian (Central Europe).

Just to give you an idea, here are some pictures that I took during my holidays there (I went there two times).

Baro, maximum is 11, if we take the current map of Croatia that has been agreed upon so far. We have 7 confirmed players, that were listed on the first page, plus Aleking who I forgot to put to the list, plus fredval, who answered later to my original invitation.

NicolaiS was also in petriknl's and my invitation list, he just was able to answer now. That makes it 10. So there are still 1 place left. And no more.

Maps that have been discussed so far, is only Croatia - nobody else has brought up anything else. If you have ideas, you'd better voice them in the coming weekend, because we need to start the preparations. And I know that many of you are already itching to start playing. So hurry up, we cannot wait for your voices forever.

Deadline for the maps and for the player list in my opinion is next week Friday (15th July 2005). Most of you seem to be online daily or at least a few times a week, so this should be an ample time for it. The decisions then will be based on those comments who have voiced their opinions. Majority rules.

    Have a good weekend

    Mickebear

EDIT: heheh Fred, you are quick... Yes, I have been to Croatia once, and I am going again this September for two weeks

EDIT 2: On the second look - you have suberb pictures, just wonderful! I also have hundreds of photos of Croatia, but they are all at home... and I am at work now...

But we aren't in obligation to build an exact replica of that croatian coast, like people that exactly rebuild New York or Marseille like Mickebear.... Just let our imagination build everything we want.... But in that architectural style....

No, not a replica, there is no point, at least in my opinion. You are right, same style though.

EDIT If this is the map that satisfies you, you can start to think which one you would like to have. The areas from up to down and from left to right:

    A - B - C

    D - E - F

    G - H - I

    J - K

So, when you are not surfing Simtropolis at work, it's because you are on holidays ?
Is your boss aware of all that ??? 9.gif

I myself will be on holidays from 1-21 august and abroad for work (USA, Italia, Espana at least) during many days in September.

Wow, the real life city of croatia looks so beautiful! I would love to work on this map if I had the opportunity, Please vote for who you think is the best. SimMania had a really wonderful airport, I applaud you on that, not many people are able to create a realstic airport. But I do have a minor critic on the airport, In picture three, I don't really like the runway starting in front of another runway because that would cause a traffic nightmare, A plane landing on that runway while another is taking off, they both would crash, maybe make the runway longer and make it intersects, that would help a lot. Again, wonderful work! Keep it up!

Again, vote for who you think is the best for this project.

Kumba: With or without intersections it's the same. The airplane land and takeoff will intersect. The landing strip is so much long that I think there won't be any problem. And also the smaller runway, the planes takeoff from the upper side to the lower and the larger that is upper it's from the left to the right...

It's not really a nightmare because of the distance, I think 10 tiles and an airplane always land or takeoff after the runway. And your airport.... You think 4 intersections at the same place are realistic... Not really.... I saw a lot of satellites views of airports before building my airport and I can tell you I've never saw that....

    And chose the best!

EDIT: If you would choose me the preference order for maps are D-H-E........

If my airport isn't realistic so one airport about four in Florida aren't. I just looked in google map and here's what I saw:

    Thalassee municipal airport:

    thalasseemunicipalfl2jx.jpg

    Jacksonville international airport:

    jacksonvilleintlfl7xd.jpg

    Kendall-Tamiami airport:

    opalockafl0gs.jpg

    Vero beach municipal airport:

    verobeachmunicipalfl6to.jpg

If my airport isn't realist so a lot of Floridian airports aren't....... 29.gif44.gif

What I meant was that the runway is front of another runway, the picture you shown me shows one or two not much runway that is right in front of another, just at a angle but not in front of another runway if you know what I mean, but I see your point. I think its really great that you did some research before actually building the airport and it does show in the game, the airport does look realstic, I applaud you on that. Great job!

Me probably that I will build 2-3 cities surroundings. They will be small cities, 70 000 maximum each and there will be a lot of interaction with other nations. I would like to build the first petroleum nation and a refinery with lot of pipelines... And a seaport. Something industrial but trying some nice industry. And at 2-3 medium cities the central city. A city leveled and with uses of jeroni's walls , something really croatian and old. And on the side probably a small downtown. The downtown will be no more than Ten stories buildings. 5 or 10 towers of that kind. And a sunken highway. After somes well suburbs and customs on the side. Finally between the three main cities some small villages of 1000 sims something like that and some historical villages. And 1-2 military centers. But with that I would like to do a lot of connections with your regions and commercial deals for economy. All things like that. That's my vision of my sim-nation on the project and the interrelations between the nations...

EDIT: I would build the older (historical cities) before and try a realist expansion of a normal city...  I think interrelations are important and that's why I would try to do a lot of theses connections and also build some RP companies and build things like mines, oil platforms, exploitable forests, and industries to export them via train and other transportations to your region....

EDIT 2: For cities this will depend on wich map I have if it's a small map with a lot of water probably that there will be one city of 50 000 and villages surroundings....

    Hello, petriknl

First of all, I plan to make few of a small touristy costal city with pop of 1000 to 3000 and a capital city of course, I also plan to build some medium denisty city too. I plan not to use too many skyscrapers, just a few, less than 10. I also would put in a historial fort in my state too. I plan to interact with other cities by sending them cargo and frieghts to international airports and seaports. I also may use some power and water if needed from other cities if they would allow it of course. Also, most importantly, I would rely on tourist for the income of my city so I would also interact with other cities by them sending me people to have fun and for vacationeers. I also would trade with cities. I also plan to have a high speed rail line so I would like a rail connection to other cities. That goes with road connections too.

I plan my city to be a monarchy, ruled by a king and queen. it will be a peaceful state with an military airforce base, maybe a few of navy warship, but thats it.

In my city I would like to build a cruise ship terminal, no cargo, all cargoes will be put on train or truck to the nearest international seaport. I also have a desire to build a spaceport if it is fine with the rest of the nation, I dont want to spoil the picture perfect landscape with a spaceport if it would look awkward. My ideal city would be a tourist city with hotels and sandy beaches, it wont be too commercial or industrialous with the execption of the cruise ship terminal and spaceport, it would be mostly residental.

If you have any more question to ask me, please feel free to ask me and I'll answer them. I will build a med. style city as a demostration to show you what I am able of. Expect some more picture of my test med. city as a demo.

    Thank you.

Here is some screenshot from my city, Omphalos, that I think would fit in the style of croatia the best, with a taste of italian flavor.

Hotel Flamingo is the most elegant hotel in Omphalos, at night, it comes to life with bright pink neon light attracting the young crowd with it's five star night club.

    White Swan Marina

This is a popular tourist destination in Omphalos, White Swan Marina offers a array of paddleboat to take out for a relaxing cruise in the canal system, or take it out to the ocean though the lock system for a challenge. It is favored by many teenagers for taking out a girl or guy on a date. Neverless, it is for everyone to enjoy and cruise the canals looking at the tall tower houses that lines the canal.

    Lorei High Speed Rail Station

Omphalos also boast a high speed rail station that brings in tourist in from other regions to its attractions. It is voted as one of the top 25 rail station in the region, not bad for a small resort city.

    Les Dreager Opera House

Named after a famous Omphalos opera singer, this opera house typically attracts the middle and older peoples in Omphalos with its creative opera performances, it also attracts tourist from other cities wanting something bold and different than other opera houses in the region. It is one of the oldest building in Omphalos, it was built by a french company in 1854

     Omphalos SimReligion Church

The Omphalo SimReligion church is a modern brand new church, built ten years ago to replace a small church that couldnt fit the town population in it anymore, so the decision was to build a new one, they agreed it to be modern and not old looking.

Please do post some constructive critism if you have any, its okay if it is harsh, thats how I learn to build better.
