I am back on and off for next two weeks 3.gif.

Happy to see Pikatchoum back! I suggest that you take the double region J, because it has much more land than in the quoted picture. Besides, you would get Simmania and Mickebear as your immediate neighbours 2.gif

    <ahttp://img103.imageshack.us/img103/7853/gmi0mi.jpg align=baseline>

    quote>
mrbisonm's idea is actually what has been in mind: if we start our history from 1980 or 1990 (I don't really care), the history DOESN'T start from barren fields and virgin woods, but from a relatively modern nation with turbulent past and great sightseeing. So for me, please don't wait to start to build your towns and villages - when CJ starts, we are going to present a ready product, which starts the development of its own.

Simmania : I am so happy that petriknl was able to give you the hint about your 'sinking' nation. It took me 3 days and 37 reloads of the maps to realize that sometimes Cycledogg's mods modify the RGB values of any given grayscale map, IF there is a lot of water (RGB value 0 0 0) around, like it is in your and my case. Pikatchoum might face the same problem, so if you could advise him in French to temporarily move all plugins to his desktop for instance, and load the region - at least then the loading happens quicker.

To all: your flags, coats of arms and presentations of your nations has been fascinating to read today, when I returned. I am not able to play this week, nor build anything - that will have to wait until next week, but at least I am again in a civilized area with internet access (I was in Finland in a forest picking up berries during whole last week).

I also suggest that we launch a competition again for the two remaining maps, because the past two weeks should have been enough time for any vacationer to show his nose here. We have promised to each other to start the CJ in mid September - early October, and the time is building up.

Please ask questions if you have any. It is good to be back - and good to go on vacation again, and this time to REAL Istria in Croatia: we (my spouse and our friends) will visit the whole of Istrian peninsula, Rijeka and island of Krk in Croatia in the first two weeks of September, so I am returning with plenty of fresh ideas and pictures to share with you.

Welcome back to Civ, I know what that is like....lol

I just got back from my vacation yesterday and last night I did some City building in my Istrina Nation, Norland , and today I am almost ready.
Just to give you some encouragement to do so also and also so you have a glimpse of the Norland Nation up north of you all, here are three general pics of my region with the Cities installed.

Not much of an explanation necessary here. These are the villages, towns and Cities of Norland

    NorlandMap1.jpg

The transportation map shows all the roads, tracks etc in the region

    NorlandMap1Transport.jpg

The soon to be very famous Jochen trail, that will travel through the whole mountain range from Burre to Landkoping.

    NorlandMap1TransportClose.JPG

No connections to neighbors have been made yet, that will be done once the CJ starts. Some more pictures are coming soon.
Hope that encourages you all to do yours.....21.gif

sloppet, the lakes and rivers in the mountains are made with gizmo's raintool and the water mayor mode from the STEX. Both look quite real in the regionview and are easy to use. Just do a search to find them or maybe someone here can help you find the links. (I am on 56k, and it would take me too long to find them).

Here is a close up of the mountain ranges and the army base, which can only be reached by the soon to become famous Jochen trail.

    NorlandMapArmyBase.JPG

And here is the Capitol City of Norland, not the biggest City, neither the city where the Emperor lives, but simply the Capitol, where all federal offices can be found and also where the Capitol building is situated. From here on highways spred into three direction  and one can reach any part of the region within a few hours of driving. An airport is in the planning, but since the story hasn't started yet, it will have to wait, but meanwhile one can take a plane in the International airport of Soderborg, which is further south and which is the biggest City in Norland also. (maybe next time we will get to see a picture of it)

    NorlandMapCapitol.JPG

I would like to have a confirmation on exactly how many we are at this moment that are SURE to participate with this regionplay.....47.gif. Count me.47.gif

Really sorry mbbisonm but I think your capital is too big, there's too much skyscrapers... It's not really medeteranean! But it's still good except the capital! Really good work!

What do you mean too big?????

Pehl isn't even the biggest City on my map, Soderborg is almost twice as big. Since when is this supposed to be  the Mediterranean? I thought it was fictious47.gif

This is Norland and not a mediterranian Nation.
You better make up your minds, if we really play the exact mediterranean Nations, then count me out. I don't wanna play something that already exists.2.gif

Just a small word to let you all know that I'm back from vacation.

However, real life is taking me all my time for the moment. I hope I'll have time to play sim city later this week.

Nice to see that you made good progress during my absence.

Mrbisonm, I'm speaking about the density, you have 200 meters towers... And we they recruited me they said it's supposed to be european looking...

When Mickebear will be back he will see your nation and we'll see if it's okay or not, after all i'm not the boss of that project but it seem that mickebear said me that but anyway! Let's do everything we want!

    EDIT: Here' Alte Clistana:

Well, there are some responses since my reply. Although our area is from a map in the Mediterranean in real life, remember that this is a game. If you take a careful look at the beginning at this thread, EVERYBODY was given the freedom to build their own kind of city - this was what was interesting to mrbisonm for instance. Later on, many of us wanted to build a Mediterranean nation - but there is nothing wrong with putting up a few skyscrapers on your nations, they do exist also in the 'old' world.

One of the charactheristics of our experiment is not only how we can build our nations and co-operations, but also the human aspect of co-operation: remember that our participants come from Canada (Quebec), the Netherlands, Belgium and France, thus people have many different cultural experiences and styles - it IS interesting to see how these aspects will reflect in our game.

I understand that some expect me to 'rule' somehow here, but that is not my point; I'd rather give people free hands to operate AND use common sense. So far this has worked very well, and I don't doubt that it wouldn't work in the future as well.

Pika, you will get your map later tonight, when I am out of work. In your map you will have custom-made greyscale jpg map and custom-made config.bmp. This assures that you should be able to render your map in SC4 without problems. Remember to remove Cycledogg's mods from your plugins before you launch SimCity4.

EDIT: I don't see anything wrong with mrbisonm's nation, on the contrary, it is great work - and a useful contrast to the style that others are contributing. I want (sorry to use such a strong word) we continue like this, because reflecting the diverse city building skills are just what we need. We all build our own kinds of nations, let's see how we can surprise the public, if we are already so surprised ourselves!

About mrbisonm: very ncie to see your regio so 'developed' yet maybe to much, how on earth did you pay that dense highwaynetwork? and I also agree that building up skyscrapers in a not so very rich nation during the 1980s is not so realistic. With less development, future projects and plans would be more interesting I think. But I love your national layout.. very nice.

Due to real life I have no time to play with SC untill next week so please be patience about my nation.

Simmania: Alte Clistana looks very nice (btw I am wondeirng where New Clistana lies? 2.gif)

Mickebear: Yes we are some what free, but there will be a need for some rules, eg for landmarks. How can we have ehh one very typical building in lost of nations... and so on. But in time I think more rules will be made by setting up a international / regional structure..

I have some sad news: Aleking drops out - and as I am assuming now that Baro and Artorius are also no longer with us, this leaves us with 3 nations without players. Pikatchoum, of course you can choose again:

    Istrina4freeB.jpg

EDIT: According to the 'real' Croatian map that I have, the latest motorways that are built run approximately how mrbisonm has put them in his map. Although we are by no means obliged to rebuild the actual Croatia (do we even want to? This is a game...), it is impressive how mrbisonm had put his motorways as they are in real life1.gif

EDIT 2: Simmania: your Alte Clistana is indeed very nice and green - worth going for a visit 44.gif

EDIT 3: petriknl: sure, landmarks and such needs to be discussed so that we are not all enthusiastically putting greek statues all over the place 17.gif

EDIT 4: Fredval, welcome back, nice to see you here again ;p)

Ok, here is how I saw the whole thing of this co-op CJ, when I started building up my region:  I didn't think of it as an *european* land, even if it was taken from actual Croatia. I don't want to play an european  Nation, I think they are boring and too much alike and ......well.....simply too old for me....lol (no offence please, this is my opinion). I don't like it, although I am German/Swedish descendance and lived 16 years in Europe and all over the place of it, I love nature and the modern world, which we here in N-A (north-america) have lots of and this is what I was going to redo. That is one reason that I asked specifically if this was a supposed to become a fictious CJ and it was answered with Yes. So I explained that I will  make my region, since it is already in the north, a northern type region, like North America, but kept it fictious and called it Norland, which does not exist.
If you take Montreal for example, a 20 minute drive out of the some Million City you will be in the farmlands and add another 10 minute drive and you can get lost in its surrounding wilderness. This is what I had in mind when building Norland and I thought it alright. If there are restrictions, please make sure they are posted and everyone gets to see them before they accept to play the region with us and start building their Nation. I spent 6 hours in this region and I hope that I don't have to redo it. Like I said before, if this is to become a Mediterranian real life CJ, count me out, since I don't duplicate reality.(too boring and it has been seen before)
Now, back to Norland. Just look at it as a Northern and modern Nation of Norlanders that have different aspects of living, traditions and architecture, which could just hopefully make the difference of this CJ more interesting (?).
Like Mickebear said, we are all from different nations, some from warmer and others from colder regions, some denser and some less, so don't expect one to be the same as the other. I have been in all these countries where you are from (travel is part of my job for the last 35 years) and I have seen them several times also, so I know what they all look like, but I don't think that my way of playing my region would affect the actual CJ in any way, but the contrary, if we would do all the same building style, I am sure that most of the readers would find it somewhat boring and feedback would become rare.
So let's give them something of everyone's taste here and just be imaginative and do your thing as you like it. It is a game and we are supposed to have fun, that's what I think it is all about, right?
I am sure that this will be one heck of a CJ with all kinds of nations in one region.

Alte Clistana is on map E, it seems, looking good and green.Good job, SIMMANIA!
    A is mine, D is petricknl's ,E is SIMMANIA's and B is Utora's , but what else belongs to who like C,G,H and J?34.gif

Sushill ( map C ) is my nation (under developement).

About the style discussion. Initially I was also of the impression that the cj would try to copy a more mediterranean (sp?) style. But after a number of pages into this thread I realized that it wasn't and that every player can use his/hers own building style. This is also more logical because there are simply not many BAT's and Lots available to build a nation purely with a mediterranean look.

I am currently preparing Sushill for the start of the CJ and will present yet another style ... but I can also imagine the confusion about building styles as it was originally proposed to be mediterranean. I also hope we will find additional players for the remaining nation tiles. Although its also possible to start with the players we have now and see who wants to join after we have started. Adding new players may give nice new twists to storylines et cetera.

Hi guys, loving the idea of this new CJ, should be interesting to see how it all comes together.

I know i'm only a $%&^!, but if you struggle to find enough people, i'd gladly get involved, looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun. 29.gif

Style discussion: I have no problem with different styles of play / buildings / history etc altough I think like the background of your nation should be realistic is the bigger regional view with Austria, Italy etc. playing a role in it. And mrbisonm: I still think most highways should be build later on...

Very very bad to see aleking leaving.. does he has given a reason for it?

The free nations should not be given to another person who will drop out... so maybe for 'wannabees':
-create a city or village... as realistic as possible, presented in a cool picture
-make something up .. like your history / economy / companies etc etc etc.
    - and this all should fit in the current Istrinian cultural, historical etc. background.

    So make us choose you!

My highways aren't connecting with any neighbors yet, but they bring my Nation's Cities closer, a necessity to my nation's existance.
We are supposed to be in the 70's or 80's , if I remember right.....42.gif and in these times plenty of highways existed., so what is wrong with Norland?

    - This is fictious, right?....and not a reproduction of some existing lands, right?
    - It is supposed to be in the 70's or 80's, right? ....and not in the 1800's right?
    - It was said that we could each have our own playstyle, right? ....and not make a dull region of the same playstyle all over, right?
    - We agreed that we start with existing Cities, right...and not the poor and empty wilderness, right?
    - We all said that cheating is our own thiong, right?...and not taking a few months to get this region all working properly, right?

So?47.gif42.gif........Make up your minds please and make sure that everyone agrees on everything, otherwise this regionplay cannot NOT successfully work. I don't feel like spending dozens of hours each time on something that you don't agree on.21.gif.

Now, my region of Norland is finished and ready for the introduction story, which all you guys will decide when this will be, and whenever everybody is ready. Meanwhile, I am going back to Lavender and Nexis of Genesis on this weekend and leave this as is.

I will keep a close eye on things here and see what's happening.2.gif

petriknl, this is an excellent idea to force people making to choose them with what they offer. I also think that we should not allow anyone , nor everyone to join, just because he/she feels instantly like joining. Already there is someone here that was supposed to have a character in my CJ Nexis of Genesis so badly, that he never showed up47.gif...........hope this time it's for real.

If any of you want to join, think about it 24 hrs and then come back with a solid (and I mean SOLID) argument, why we should choose You....Sounds good?
This way, we don't have to worry about him and him and her leaving here and there, which usually ends up in a *lost time-lost energy* mess and nothing useful was accomplished. This CJ could be fun and quite an experience, so make it worthwhile.

    think about it.....................................................34.gif

    Alright, answer time:

Pikatchoum: map F is your, could you send me your email address? I don't find it anywhere any longer. I Found your email address and the map is sent to you with instructions. Please remove Cycledogg's mods, before rendering the map.
petriknl: I don't see a problem with highways - mrbisonm's nation is like that. Yours and mine most probably not. We are poorer. Aleking was too busy with other things, we don't need to pry the reasons why he didn't want to participate. This leads us all to be very selective with who we accept to participate in this, but let's talk about it a few lines later.
mrbisonm: answer to your questions in a few lines:
    * this is fictious, but you want to copy something, ok - that is in your hands.
    * time period is 80s or so (and yes, highways existed then, even in remotest parts of Europe 1.gif )
    * everybody has their own playstyle, as stated in very beginning of the thread
    * we MUST start with existing cities, because unfinished product is NOT shown to the public
    * everybody can cheat. Most of us, if not all do so. When I start to play, I don't have time in my hands more than a week to build the region to the beginning state, that means having the villages, towns, industry, commercial centers, and agriculture. My real life is very demanding at this moment, so I don't have a lot of time in my hands - thinking about cheating is the last thing in my mind.

I'd be going so far even that we stop talking back and forth about this, it is not productive. Let us concentrate crafting our nations to presentable state, and thinking about the history. If you need to do something with your neighbour, you can always PM him/her.

To all existing participants and to those who would like to participate:
More importantly now, we need to have three new players. We have nations I, J and K free, as in this map below:

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Istrina4freeAndPika.jpg'>http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Istrina4freeAndPika.jpg align=baseline>

As both mrbisonm and petriknl amptly put, we DO NOT NEED tourists here, but people with reasonable commitment. We all do have our lives, and are not playing everyday or even every week, but are willing to contribute to this thread. If you are having a flash that you want to participate in this, like mrbisonm says, think about it 24 hrs and come back, with petriknl's ideas. Also, READ THIS THREAD FROM THE BEGINNING, because it is essential to understand the philosophy of our experiment before participating.

So, for the future participants, please apply, bearing the above in mind, and with following as your showcase:
    1. create a city or village... as realistic as possible, presented in a cool picture
    2. make something up .. like your history / economy / companies etc etc etc.
    3. and this all should fit in the current Istrinian cultural, historical etc. background (this means: read this thread from the beginning - you don't have to make a Mediterranean copy, but catch the essence of the thread)
    4. explain why you would be an asset to the team (story telling, building style, BATting skills)
    5. Post your application on this thread.

DEADLINE is 1st September. The current participants are judges.

Let's make this the best ever CJ!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
