Go to My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\, open the folder containing the region you want to rename and you should find a file called region.ini Open it with notepad and you should see something like this:

[Regional Settings]

Name = ......

Terrain type = 0

Water Min = 60

Water Max = 100quote>

Right of "name" is the name of your region. Change it and save the file. That's all.

Go to your folders document where SC4 and go to the regions folder.

Make a back up of the region that you want to change the name of (just in case, better safe than sorry)

Put backup AWAY from SC4 folder

Change original folders name to whatever you want.

HEY PRESTO! Your regions name is changed! (I take no responsibility in crashes caused by fiddling where I haven't said to, but I do in any that I have)

I tried the first one and I ended up with two regions with the same name.

I tried the second one and nothing happened/

Interesting...

Did you move the backup out of the SC4 folder and into a different place (preferably even out of the programme files folder too)

You mean the documents folder?

Anyway yes I did.

Creating a city in the Clone region(the original region had a custom config.bmp file, so it was different, and the clone one had the default config.bmp) resulted in a folder being made with the name that was suppose to be the new region name with a copy of the region.txt file from the correct region, and the city file but no config.bmp file

A possible reason for confusion...

Changing the region.ini 'NAME=' line will change the name of the city in-game but not the name of the region folder in the Documents/Regions folder. Likewise, changing the name of the region folder in the Regions folder will not change the name of the region in-game if it already has a region.ini file. So it is possible to have two regions with the same name show up in-game (but have folders with different names) if you have two region.ini files with the same name in different folders and confusion could result as to which region you're actually playing. To get both a name change in-game and the correct name of the actual folder, they both need to be renamed. Sounds like the easiest way to 'fix' this issue (unless you've developed something you want to keep) is to get rid of both new region folders and start over with a copy of the original back up. Rename the region.ini and the folder itself.

You can also remove the region.ini file and name the region folder the name you want then start the game. It will create a new region.ini file.

sakarr...

Sounds like all you need to do is do as io_bg suggested. Rename the region.ini file, and you might want to change the folder name to match it.

Hope this makes sense and helps somewhat...

Random_ben7, with this cheat you can change only the name of a city, not a region.

    Sakkar, I'm glad I've helped 4.gif
