Welcome to Hartford.

hartlandsflag.jpg

Where is Hartford? Hartford is the Capital and largest city of The Hartlands, a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean discovered and populated by English and French explorers in 1452 and 1460 respectively.

What's the language of Hartford and The Hartlands? The people of Hartford speak English mainly, but French does have a strong influence in the city, with near 30% of the population being speakers of the language, 10% of them use the language as their first language. Outside of Hartford there are larger Francophone populations, in regions such as Lyon and Port Blanc.

Why should I read this journal? I'm going to try and give you the chance to get more joined in with the journal. Through a series of "Virtual Mediums" such as faux news reports and the ability to ask to see anything (e.g. list of Hartford school names or the logo of Hartfords most popular TV show) or anything that you decide you might find interesting.

For now, I'm just getting going with the new City, but I've spent many hours doing design elements for the City and it's Virtual World which I hope to show you alot of soon. For now I'm going to post three screenshots, and get back to work on the game and perhaps make a pizza.

bartonunion.jpg

The Barton|Union Bank Towers on Vale Road in Central Hartford were built in 1996. Barton|Union is The Hartlands third largest bank, and it was formed in 1988 through the joining of Barton Bank and Hallam Union Bank. The largest bank in The Hartlands is now Lighthouse Bank, which overtook Hartlands National Bank in terms of revenue in 2008 as it merged with the french Banque Nouveau. Also shown is one of Barton Unions credit cards.

This is the junction of Cabot Avenue and Hallam Road in Central Hartford. It is home to a statue of one of the Citys founding fathers, Abraham Cabot as well as the headquarters of the dailyHART, Hartfords best selling newspaper. (Building on the right)

cabothospital.jpg

This is Cabot Hospital, the largest Hospital in Hartford. Behind it is the Sun River Hotel, which re-opened in 2001 after a fire gutted much of the central atrium several years prior.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my Journal, comments are appreciated and please do ask questions!

    Thankyou computerguy & daniel.

Just putting on two new screens and going to bed.

    college.jpg

Hartford College's Bridgeview Campus was known as Bridgeview College until it joined with Hallam Millhouse College and the newly built John Chambers centre in 2005. Hartford College is the main College for school leavers in the city, with a large range of subjects from A-Levels at the John Chambers Centre to Computer programming and Music studies at Bridgeview.

The building on the left with the yellow band around it's top is the headquarters of the Lighthouse Banking Corporation. Lighthouse became the Hartlands biggest bank in 2008 when it joined forces with the 5th largest bank, Banque Nouveau. Also visible in the centre of this shot is the National Museum, the largest in the Hartlands.

    Cheers!

Cheers Spidey, I'll get on that tomorrow afternoon. For now I just realised I forgot to upload this one.

    synfone.jpg

In the Venice district of the city, just west of the City Centre, is the Synfone Arena, which holds hundreds of major shows and music acts every year as well as being home to basketball team Hartford Magic. The Arenas sponsor and namesake iss the largest mobile communications company in the Hartlands and a fierce rival of Hacom Wireless

A big thankyou to everyone that's taken a look and commented my journel. I'm going on and getting some new shots for what will hopefully be a big update soon. For now, one shot I didn't upload last night.

    meadecentre.jpg

Meade Square, Hartford. Meade Square is southwest of the junction of Hallam Road and Cabot Avenue and is a major intersection for people travelling into the city centre. It is home to one of the most famous landmarks of the city, St Marys Tower. The tower was originally part of St Marys Cathedral, but the Cathedral was completely destroyed during the 1895 earthquake. The tower has stayed strong for over 100 years since then.

Just south of the tower is the Hartford International Convention Centre, built in 1994. East of the tower is the Meade Centre, when it opened in 1985 it was the largest shopping centre in Hartford and the Hartlands, but it has since lost alot of revenue to larger shopping centres in the region. Due to this it was decided by the centres operator Westbrook Malls and Hartford City Council to regenerate the area, in a multi million pound scheme, hartford1.

    Thanks again guys!

You may want to edit your posts to add the photos rather rather than keep posting them every few hours. Its not breaking double post rule, but it is kind of tacky. You may also want to wait and put your replies all in one post.

St. Marys Cathedral looks wonderful! Ive never seen that tower before! Where did u get it?

Your use of BATs is good, some are new to me!

You may want to use something other than the plazas in front of those buildings in your very second pic. They idea is great, but some type of pavement may look better.

Your logos and credit cards are WONDERFUL! Ive never seen quality like that! Keep it up, Im interested!

    replies1.jpg

Joetropian1: Hello and thanks for looking at my CJ. I'll sort out moving all my updates in to my first post next time, thanks for the help. I agree the plaza's do look generally quite unappealing, I've replaced them with pedestrian tiles now 4.gif. The Cathedral tower is the NDEX Gothic Bell Tower. And thanks very much, I take alot of time on the design element so it's nice to hear that. Please keep reading!

fabsies55: Thanks very much, please keep reading 4.gif

Twenty20: Thankyou! I'm hoping to get new pictures from the City up soon, I've had a bit of trouble with the game crashing recently thats held me back a bit but I think I've sorted it.

danielcote: Cheers, I'll try to get alot more of them in the next update!

    update1.jpg

I can't really do a major update today I'm afraid, I've been suffering from repeated game crashes (and I've been out alot this weekend). I've made some newspaper front pages to try and keep you all interested in the mean time!

    hallamtimes.jpg

Above is the front cover of todays Hallam Times, the best selling paper in the Heartlands second largest city, Hallam.

    identit.jpg

The front cover of Identité, the Hartlands best selling french language paper. (Please note that all the french is translated via Google so sorry for the lack of correct grammar and so on.)

I don't really have much else to upload right now, I have alot more design and logo elements, but I'll just put those up (or create them) on request.

    Cheers everyone!
