Too much cash?

I try to keep my cities with a positive budget so that I am always making money. So, my monthly revenue always exceeds my expenses. The problem is, I end up with a huge surplus of cash that I really don't need. I can't seem to find anything to spend the money on that doesn't require a monthly expense. Even upgrading infrastructure or adding landmarks, although reduces my monthly revenue, doesn't seem to have much of an effect. Now granted, I haven't really made any massive cities yet (500k pop is biggest so far), but I just feel like I should be spending this money on the city and there is nothing to spend it on. By the way not using any mods for money or anything. I am just curious if there is anything to spend money on that won't net me a loss in monthly revenue. Any suggestions?

I have this problem too- one of the best things to do is to download ploppables (parks, landmarks, etc.) from the STEX or LEX-many of these have no monthly cost

Ryan--I've tried cutting taxes and increasing funding for everything, but that just results in less revenue or a loss. I guess I could just rock back and forth between revenue gain and loss to lower my cash. I have been looking at the STEX and have downloaded some stuff from the EA site, but basically it is just so overwhelming. I will get to it.

Slightly off topic to the original post...but relevant to De Ja Vu's post...if you need lots of money there is a park you can plop that gives you some ridiculous amount of money (like $4 million or $4 billion, I can't remember).

If you have room, you should do some Landscaping, that is very expensive when doing it in Mayor Mode.

Can anyone provide the link to that extra cheat plugin???

I used to have that problem. I'd have my taxes down to Like 4-5% and still be making $10,000 a month surplus. What causes this extra cash problem is downloads for for power or water production and garbage disposal that have an unrealistically low monthly price. Also schools, libraries, hospitals, police and fire stations that cover a great range and more sim capacity at a too low of a monthly cost. So now I use the default buildings. I have to place more of them to have coverage in all areas of the city therefore the cost goes up. I use the default power, water, and garbage too so that costs more. I still have a surplus but it's with my taxes set between 8-9%.

Terraforming in mayor mode or downloading more landmarks will get "rid" of some of the cash you have available right now, but once your done with all that, you'll be right back where you are now. Best solution is to use the default buildings to make yourself place them to cover your city's zones.

I didn't think about the downloaded buildings, but that is a good point. I only use a few of those like higher capacity hospitals, but that is to avoid having hospitals all over the place. It is not too big a deal, having more money is certainly not a bad thing. I was just curious if there were some big money projects that I wasn't aware of. Thanks to everyone for the replies!

Too much cash? In my experience, there is no such thing as having too much money saved up.

Use the extra cash on what you want to do. Remember: with a lot of money you will be able to build (to use a cliche) the city of your dreams.

    controllers

    createexception

    forceidle
